I get why they're doing this, and one has to try...but they are dealing with a drug-abusing technofascist. It means: he will always admire Russia because of their fascism. They don't respect anyone else.
The US hasn't crossed the red line by openly supporting Russia via weapons transfers. The US administration and their oligarch friends know how immensely unpopular that would be amongst the majority of US citizens. But they'll do everything up to that red line. For now.

It's good he's doing it, but I wouldn't get excited about any positive results.
Europe needs to massively invest into an air defense system we can share with Ukraine. All the work we are doing in that direction now: double, triple, quadruple the effort. Whatever it takes to make it happen faster.

We're talking about Europe.

After Stalin's Russia began WW2 together with the Germans, there was no turning back. Europe was at war.
Russia's dictator Putin is not going to stop until he is stopped by the free world.
This isn't a choice we're given. Nobody wants it. It's Russia's desire, because their leadership and a huge part of their population are fucked in the head. There's no polite way to phrase it.

Europe has been re-arming since the start of Russia's full-scale war, under Biden.

it's sort of hilarious reading expert opinions on what the current US administration "strategy" towards Europe should be.
They can only comprehend the idea that they are so desperately needed here. They're coming up ways so that they can cleverly play games to somehow trick Europe into doing things they think are best for them.
They will never listen to what a European has to say — they know better every single time. It's tiring and old. Just go already or stop whining.

Those "hollow threats" turned out not so hollow after all.

The eastern Pacific is such a large area. Is this near China, Thailand, Philippines, Korea? Could be anywhere.
That's just one of the disturbing aspects. These could be fishermen or tourists, their families may never know what happened to them.

Those no kings demonstrations are not going to be enough. This president is a maniac.

Would this new policy apply to F-Droid on /e/ OS and LineageOS? Both of those are 'de-googled' so I'm curious how far that goes.

I'm a bit skeptical about modelling the pain of tariffs without knowing what the counter tariffs will be?
The EU has their own analysts whose job is to design tariffs with minimal harm to the EU while maximizing pressure on US companies.
Or does the US exclusively export products to the EU/UK that we have no conceivable alternatives to?

Farmer lock-in is one thing. But I'm talking about EU farming equipment manufacturers like CLAAS, Fendt, Case New Holland etc. having unfair competition from the US due to the Trump tariffs.
EU manufacturers (along with their unionized workers) getting shut down so that farm business owners — who generally support right-wing authoritarians like Trump and his European equivalents — get a better deal?
I support what @npub1fdr…lvhs is saying but this I don't understand.

Ok but you're an EU farmer and now you can buy a brand new John Deere and service it as you wish?
That makes John Deere products *more* appealing to European farmers – not less.
It'd be a double blow to European farm equipment builders: because of Trump tariffs, EU equipment costs a lot to import into the US. Meanwhile, John Deere & co get a free pass into the EU because we don't do retaliation.
Yikes.

While updated anti-circumvention laws are an interesting idea, Europe giving John Deere and other industrial firms an advantage over our local companies by ignoring tariffs would destroy perfectly good EU industries and jobs.
Why should we shoot ourselves in the foot here?

Agriculture business in the US supports Trump so I'm not bothered if it hurts soybean farmers and it's not my problem [speaking as a European here].
Retaliatory tariffs aren't used to punish Americans; they're used to make the US administration think twice about placing more tariffs on exports from the EU, Canada, etc.

The much maligned "EU bureaucracy" doesn't come for free. I pay my EU taxes to keep it running so that we can have a functional single market and all the benefits that come with it.
Why should a non-member country get those benefits for free?
