I have decided to spend the rest of my life doing T4T.

This is what I've always wanted. I just hadn't realized it.

After living my life the way I have all along, and then recently opening up about it online and now being surrounded by more and more people like me in this way, it just makes sense. It feels right.

I love these people. This feeling of community I get. They're all about T4T, and have welcomed me into that way of being. It makes me feel a warmth in my heart that I haven't felt before.

Yes, it's unfortunate that there's a lot of infighting within the T4T (and broader) community. I just want everyone to do T4T the way they want to do it, not succumb to our most base impulses. (can't spell that word right on the first try. it always comes out as "subcum" for some reason.)

The internet is hard. It's hard to get these feelings across in text. I need human connection. I need to meet people in the flesh, and do T4T together.

So from now on I'm gonna be loud and proud about it! Everywhere!

Tools for Thought are fucking awesome. Let's give everyone T4T and make the world a better place.

Sure, I've been on stage hundreds of times. But i've never done the "give a tech talk" thing.

I wonder what that'd be like.

Would it be loaded with feelings? Would I be animated and playful? Would the subject matter be something very dear to me? Would there be weird technical details and unexpected twists and disquieting quirks? Would ZERO VOID make an appearance?

aside: i can't remember if it was that episode, or maybe the one where we do three bret victor talks, but there was a bit where lu is like "we're two and a half men… well, maybe two and a quarter men" and for some reason i had this overwhelming yearn to say "yeah cuz i'm only like 3/4 male right?" and had no idea why (legit, this was waaaay before egg crack). weird fuckin things brains do. wish i had let myself say it, that woulda been a wild turn.

it's stopped being funny, alas. getting harder to feel like myself.

mind, it was probably worse the first time. i didnt know what to expect.

but this time... what happens if it doesn't work? these patches survived the first round seemingly untouched. what if they survive the second? they very likely will. will i notice any difference at all? how many more sessions until i do?

[had my second laser session on friday. i'm now in the awkward period of extra thick black stubble, can't shave it off, have to wait for it to fall out on its own.]

We have 3 folks at Ink & Switch working on a plugin for Godot that adds Automerge-powered local-first collaboration with back compat for git. I've kicked the tires on that, but, like… I don't really like Godot? I dunno.

currently working on:

* legal name & gender — I don't want to mess with my passport 6 weeks before a trip (Berlin for Local-First Conf in July), so this is on hold.
* voice — i have fantastic control over pitch (but my upper range is awful after years of abusive singing and general neglect) and good control over resonance, so now it's just a matter of habituating. i can speak with good pitch like 80% of the time, and good resonance like 2% of the time.
* makeup — got some to try, haven't tried, waiting until i have some time by myself because i haven't done this in 20 years and feel a ton of shame about it
* clothes — i have a few cool dresses and skirts now, enough that i can spend all week in affirming outfits. huge boost to my disposition. (also, tights! finally found some that fit my tall frame.)
* facial hair — waiting until the fall to begin laser, to avoid sun exposure. sad about this. one of my strongest sources of dysphoria (so much so that i was conscious of it waaay before i ever started wondering if i was trans)
* social — i'm out to everyone except my in-laws, who i believe are quietly transphobic. they're next. tomorrow? wish me luck.

at this point in my life, three things matter most to me

three: i think computer programs are alive, and i'm sad that we make them out of text. to program — to be present with the computer — i want to see and touch things as they dance through space. i want execution to have rhythm i can feel. this is what i'm trying to make my career about.

two: i think songwriting is one of the more powerful forms of magic. my partner and i sing to each other, "when you put it in a song, that makes it true." songwriting is more than lyric and melody. it's laying in the grass at night and screaming to the stars. it's leaving your body and entering any instrument. it's pulling something out of yourself, turning it into culture, and living with it as the years go by and you change and you discover new ways that it means something about you.

one: i think companionship is so important that it overrules almost everything else you can do or be as a person. being aware of other people, and feeling their presence in your life, is essential to being a whole person. i would go so far as to say that the definition of "human" extends beyond the individual body and mind. i want to spend my life growing closer to everyone who will have me in theirs.
