Looks like I have less than 30 days to migrate to yet another Mastodon server because this one is shutting down, just like the last one I was on. I just now got the memo.

Each time this happens, the Nostr protocol looks more and more appealing. With that protocol, a server shutting down doesn't require user action and won't result in you losing all your follows and followers.

Nostr accounts aren't tied to a single home server and all posts are cryptographically signed.

The Signal app has this along with a small warning about all the things that could make it post later than scheduled. It'd be a good model to copy.

If CEOs and bosses are not contributing to a company, why complain about it instead of just forming a company without them?

If they are contributing, but not proportionally to their pay, form a company with a different pay structure.

If they have some special skills that are absolutely critical, and nobody else can learn these skills, maybe consider that they are earning their keep?

The art and writings are fun and all, but if that's all there is, then it's just a fantasy world, without the material improvements in people's lives.

Plus, share the real stories could make the writing more realistic. Much of it seems to be written by people with little real world experience, talking about manufacturing without ever having manufactured anything, etc.

I've been working on some new cases for #meshtastic configurations where I haven't been able to find an existing case.

For example, the RAK 13000 with a screen. I can find cases without the screen, but none with. It might be an indexing problem, or blame me for searching for the model number instead of something else. But it's good practice to make custom models.

I hesitate to ask this on here, but are there any Fediverse apps that let you see your feed with an algorithm other than chronological?

I don't necessarily want to see a person more often just because they post more frequently, nor do I want to miss things posted by someone who only posts occassionally, or at different times than when I happen to tune in.

And I want to be in control of the algorithm for my own feed. I don't wasn't to delegate this to my server admin.

And yeah, light pollution is a bummer. And if we just used headlights instead of having streetlights it would solve a huge portion of the problem.

BTW: The old propaganda about Luddites opposing all technology was produced by their opponents to paint them in a light where people would dismiss their arguments without consideration. It's an interesting history.

Yesterday I spun up a Nextcloud instance that will be a shared resource for multiple communities that I am a part of.

1. Reverse proxy rules updated by Ansible
2. VM created by terraform
3. Nextcloud/postgres/nginx/TLS certs set up by Ansible

After I edited a few text files, it took a bit over 10 minutes to between nothing, and fully working #Nextcloud server.

In the fiat world... it's basically the idea the the local government could come after you from fraud and lock you in a cage.

However, when the database modifier IS the government... nothing. They have been doing it for decades. It's why prices continuously rise and the stock market goes up. It's not that these things got more valuable, it's the our money got less valuable.

Barter gets around this, but if you were only engage in barter, you'd be a tax evader. Funny how that works

I am having so much fun with disposable VMs (DVM) in #Qubes, it should be illegal!

I'm doing #dev work again today and when I think I have the minimal commands to reproduce an issue, I'll spin up a DVM, paste the commands and make sure I hit the problem I expected. If not, I'll poke around to fix it (install a dependency, update the PATH, etc.) and then repeat.

Takes about 8 second to spin up a fresh VM. Very rapid #development!
