The Pi was then sending the video feed through a WiFi module which was modified to function as a transmitter.<br/><br/>I then used yet another WiFi module. However, this one was modified to function as a receiver. This WiFi module was also connected to a Pi which then decoded the video feed and was outputting it to a connected HDMI monitor.<br/><br/><br/>Today’s task was to figure out how I could view the video feed on my computer instead of a connected HDMI monitor.<br/><br/>I used an Ethernet adapter to send the raw video bytes directly to my computer so that I could decode the video directly on my Mac rather than on the Pi. I really hope I can change the gimbals to be self-centered, but will see. This has now become butter-smooth!<br/><br/><br/>I improved canvas performance by using LOD (meaning _Level of detail_) to give each canvas image only as much pixel detail as its current screen size needs:<br/><br/>- Offscreen: no active bitmap in the object view.<br/>- Near viewport: low-detail 512 px preview.<br/>- Visible: higher-detail rendition based on on-screen size and Retina scale.<br/>- Zoom in: request a higher LOD if the current rendition would become visibly soft.<br/><br/><br/>When an image object is farther than half a viewport outside the screen, it is not rendering the bitmapped data. It&#39;s still showing a box for where the image should be (with the correct dimensions), but it&#39;s not using memory on actually rendering the image before it&#39;s almost inside the viewport.<br/>This part of rendering images before they are inside viewport is still a bit buggy. But I’m still often thinking about design choices for how it should be built.<br/><br/>Normally, batteries are the way to go, but I’m not interested in a drone used for filming movies and such (it does not need to be quiet even though a big battery-powered hexacopter is not really quiet 😅). My goal is to build a heavy lifter that can fly long distances and carry heavy equipment.<br/><br/>My goal is for the drone to carry a cinema camera. Drone could be used for stuff like filming motorsports (e.g. rally), doing search and rescue operations, and so on…<br/><br/>For this, a gas powered engine with a generator and a small battery for peak performance could be interesting options 🤔<br/><br/>Obviously, a fully gas powered drone with a single engine wouldn’t work as the propellers must be spinning at different speeds, and one motor does not allow this unless using separate gearboxes (like one gearbox for each propeller). I don’t like this.
