I had not made date syrup before and I don’t think I appreciated the volume I was making by starting with 5.5lbs of dates. Date syrup produces both the syrup and date mash. Four cups of date mash went into the rounds (delicious, reminds me of a kind of breakfast round you can buy here but much better), I made a batch of millionaire bars with some (or rather a riff on millionaire bars, with an almond flour butter cookie base, the date mash instead of caramel, topped with chocolate), and I still have 8 cups of mash left over. All currently portioned out in the freezer for more millionaire bars. This was so simple and lovely. Like a very elegant PB &amp; J. Huge batch, many leftovers. Not sure exactly what the bugs are (maybe gnats?) or where they came from (I repotted this plant over the summer, new soil, and they were outside for a shower a few weeks ago?) but I am hoping that they have not spread. Today&#39;s lesson, run the klick you&#39;re in. Today started out perfectly. I slept (a miracle before a race), morning routine was seamless, I felt great, weather was stunning, nutrition was great. How much energy do you think I spent on waiting for the other shoe to drop? But why would I waste a perfect morning worrying about what problems could pop up!?! Like a meditation, &#34;Just be here,&#34; I repeated again, and again, and again. It took some convincing but I was able to savour a practically perfect first 35km! Of course the other shoe dropped, inevitable in both running and life, and I spent 10km waiting to come across a bathroom. But I didn&#39;t waste that beautiful start and got to enjoy these lovely flowers. I am learning, slowly, to enjoy when things go well. It also saved energy for when I finally found a bathroom, I was able to bounce back faster and enjoy the last 15km. Cut remaining cabbage leaves into fine shreds and add to the casserole.<br/><br/> 5 1 Make room in the sauerkraut with a wooden spoon, and place the cabbage rolls in it. Cook covered over very low heat for I hour.<br/><br/> 6 Meantime, make a roux out of hot lard, flour and remaining chopped onion. Cook it for about to minutes, until golden yellow. Turn off heat, stir in I tablespoon paprika, and whip it up with I cup cold water.<br/><br/> 7 Very gently remove the stuffed cabbage rolls from the casserole. Take out a ladleful of sauerkraut broth and whip it into the roux. Return this liquid thickening to main casserole, stirring it well. Bring to a boil.<br/><br/> 8 IO. The Moss Jacket is made with Ikea fabric. It was the first time making this pattern, it&#39;s okay, but I need to adjust the shoulders and arms if I make it again. I am not in love with the bell sleeves but I really like the collar. The second jacket is made with #SecondHand denim and bias binding I made myself. It&#39;s from a discontinued pattern from Helen&#39;s Closet that I have modified with shortened sleeves. I have made a calf-length version of this pattern in teal corduroy (which I love!). On this one, I did enclosed seams on the yoke! They look so clean! Bias binding along the cuffs/bottom. I really like this! I have another jacket project in the pipeline but I would make this again in a lighter fabric as an alternative to a cardigan. I like a lot of space around my shoulders and this makes me happy.
