I would say that a moving parliament, which does have precedent, would be logistically difficult, just look to the EU Parliament for an example here.

More practically we could have full devolution on the lower house, with the commons ONLY being for English MPs. The Scottish Parliament, Sennedd Cymru and NI Assembly could take the place of the Lower House in those jurisdictions with FULL competence.

For UK wide matters the reformed Upper House could perhaps perform the primary legislation, sending the legislation down to the the nations Lower Houses for debate and scrutiny as can already happen.

This would potentially overcome the West Lothian Question, and also the disparity in representation between England and Scotland.

It is clear we need substantial reform. For the Commons I think we need complete electoral reform along the lines of party list proportional representation and, with the current building needing substantial refurbishment, we also have an opportunity to reform the chamber into a parliament in the round, as the ancient wytens once were. The current layout only exists as a result of a fluke of history from when the commons met in St Stephens.

As for the Lords, first we need to disestablish the Church thus enabling a full separation of church and state. Then we can look at moving to Sortition which has been spoken about now for about three decades. Terms of either two or four years with an intake every year or two years seems very sensible. We could also perform these reforms along with boundary reform which is long overdue, and perhaps a reduction of the number of constituencies overall.

Housing is a perennial issue and source of much alleged fraud, and we could alleviate that with parliamentary housing similar in principal to military Married Quarters.

We should of course retain a Bicameral Parliament for checks and balances, especially considering that this IS a parliament and as such has blended powers, with the Executive Branch sitting in both houses of the Legislative Branch of government, with the attendant risks that not having full separation of powers brings.

Well I am not sure what I have written is actually my point of view, so much as it reflects how I see the current constitutional settlement in law.

Personally I want full electoral reform (full PR, including Party list, and voting from 16), a constitutional convention, constitutional reform including codified Constitution and an elected head of state, reform of the Commons with a circular debating Chamber, reform and replacement of the Lords with a circular Chamber and both directly elected members and members appointed by sortition. It is not anti democratic, we simply disagree with the decision which is arguably highly authoritarian. I don't think your example fits as the US system is an Executive Presidential Republic whereas the UK is a Constitutional Monarchy Westminster Representative Democracy. In this Parliament is supposed to be Sovereign, with a blending of power meaning thsg the Executive is supposed to bring legislation before Parliament for vote. In terms of Rank, the US President ranks with The King, and even though King Charles has extensive Reserve Powers, if he were to try and exercise them directly and bypass Parliament it would quite likely cause a Constitutional Crisis, we can see this in action whe The Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod has the door to the Commons slammed in his face.

In this specific case, we are talking about a judgement based upon assessments by state security Organisations regarding a civil society charity. Neither of these exist democraticly. And just because the incumbent charity has been declared by said security Organisations and Ministers to be a security threat and banned, this does not mean that those who worked for PA cannot create a new charity to take its place, avoiding those decisions which resulted in the prescription of PA.

Just to be clear, I do NOT like the decision that was made regarding PA, however, my analysis of this is that if I had the intelligence briefing that Ministers had (and which I think WAS brought before Parliament) the I would likely have made the same decision. Why? Because it is highly likely that PA had no option but to engage with Hamas, and Hamas is a terrorist organisation. I would say that a Thames Estuary Airport would be a good option, however, this would I think bring it into conflict with Schiphol Airport and for that reason alone may not be feasible.

For the point to point flights WD really should be building out more high speed rail, as that is even more efficient than even a wide body airliner, is environmentally far more sustainable, each train can carry as many or more passengers than even the largest wide body amd by traveling city centre to city centre can attain faster journey times over mid range flights.

Unfortunately GrapheneOS only supports Pixels (legacy support back to Pixel4) and insofar as I am aware have no plans to support anything else at present.

LineageOS has good support and CalyxOS to a lesser extent, I am using the latter on a 2023 Moto g42.

I am going to look at hacking a 2015 Galaxy J5 with LineageOS, but I don't know how that will go!

Another success this weekend! This is a moto g42 which I absolutely bricked some time back, and now it is working seemingly flawlessly again. I have managed to get the latest CalyxOS installed onto it which comes with Android 15, so for a reasonably dated device it has a nice and relatively new kernel, which it wouldn't have if it was stock (it shipped with 12 when I purchased it, later upgraded by moto to 13).

I am trying to remain civil however, it is difficult when I see so many people posting opinions about a subject that they know little, if anything, about.

And a lot of that contradicts my decades of experience in the RAF, Defence and Aerospace sector albeit mine is telecommunications.

But even from a telecommunication background I have still crawled around aircraft, been on aviation missions and actually taken control of various aircraft and therefore not just flown IN the things but have FLOWN them.

Renewable Energy is a logical impossibility. Energy simply exists, and in a variety of states. All we can do is change the state and from that drive useful work, such as making a locomotive move or generate electricity.

What we call "renewable energy" is also not devoid of using finite resources, and is also not pollution free. The requirements for rare earths alone require the digging of mines, often in contested parts of the world and with practically non-existent environmental protections, using slave labour and causing significant environmental damage.

The fact that this is not happening on our doorstep makes the issue no less real, or important.

I fear we also went down the wrong path with fission, and should instead have developed breeder reactors and done more research into Thorium cycle reactors.

Unfortunately I am not a nuclear physicist so my knowledge here is minimal, but revisiting this technology could be a very important way of not just bridging the energy gap which we seem to be rapidly approaching (not to mention keeping remaining sources of carbon and hydrocarbon fuels in the ground) but also reducing our stockpiles of both spent nuclear fuels and highly irradiated materials. The latter comes from a nuclear physicist in the UK who hypothesised that using neutron bombardment could be a way to make highly irradiated and dangerously radioactive materials completely safe. To perform that we would of course need neutron sources, and that means fission reactors, and probably bigger than the ones we use for things like Nuclear Medicine or making certain materials for mobile devices (insofar as I am aware, albeit not necessarily a mobile phone).

I for one would welcome seeing it reforested, along with restoring the ancient Caledonian Forest. As a vegetarian I would also welcome a substantial reduction of livestock farming, and allowing domesticated farm animals to return to their natural wild state as well.

The latter of course is a welfare issue and will have to be undertaken in a humane way, with a plethora of moral issues to overcome.

The former has enormous potential to pull carbon and other pollutants from the atmosphere as well as substantially reducing flood risks, which are of course urgent needs.

this is no doubt a very complex issue, as hill farming of sheep has without doubt created the landscape we see today, which is best described as barren. Vast swathes of native forest were cleared to enable livestock farming, forest which those engaged in rewilding would like to restore, and this includes the ancient rainforest that used to exist until it was clearcut.

The question that follows on from this would be, how can we square the needs of hill farmers with the need to undo the environmental damage done by human habitation and industry, some of which goes back millennia? I doubt that there is an easy answer, however, reversing environmental degradation is urgent, and reforestation can enable a switch in hill farming from sheep and cattle to boar, pigs and poultry, which would be necessary to maintain healthy woodlands.

Insofar as over tourism this is a growing issue, with parts of Northern Italy such as Sud Tirol and Venice experiencing similar issues, and now taking steps to control numbers of visitors.
