If you look at the leading edge of this avalanche you can see that it is not actually rolling down the mountain as you would think. It actually seems to be accelerating underneath the surface layer and blowing the fresh powder upwards.
Captured during a controlled avalanche at the top of Snowbird Ski Resort just outside of Salt Lake City.

Avalanche II shows the avalanche touching down once again as it moves toward the main traverse and easiest way down the mountain at Snowbird.

I was just driving up the highway and I was attracted to the area by the little puff of fog sitting out in the middle of the valley. The Chapel is the oldest building in Yosemite Valley being built in 1879. It's original location was the "Lower Valley" but was moved to it's current location in 1901.

To get out to the lighthouse a person must first walk down 300+ steps to get to the building.

Shooting sunsets along the Northern California Coast can be a real challenge. Many times the low lying fog covers up the sun. This is more likely to happen during the warm summer months when you would like to spend time at the ocean. I caught this during the late spring. The afternoon was beautiful and the temperatures were in the mid 70's.

Grapes On The Vine

Living within a stones throw from California's famous Napa valley certainly has it's advantages.
I do prefer the late summer and fall for shooting any images at the wineries as the grape vines are full of foliage and bursting with fruit. Right around harvest time the vines start changing color as most broad leaf trees do at this time of year.

This image was captured from the Tunnel View parking lot high above Yosemite Valley. The snow has covered the tops of all of the famous Yosemite landmarks like El Capitan, Half Dome and the Three Brothers.

Most of the dogwoods in Yosemite have a very nice white blossom, there are a few pink dogwoods near the housing units for the park service employees. The new Span of the Oakland-San Francisco Bay Bridge opened not long after Labor Day in 2013. I was down on Treasure Island not long after. I decided that this was my favorite image of the night. I was lucky as the night was relatively still and I was able to get some reflections on the water.
If you look closely behind the span is what remained at that time of the old span.

You pull back the thick wooden doors to enter the sanctuary and the building opens up into a large cavernous space with gothic columns and arches. At the time of our visit there was a young lady rehearsing her hymns for Sunday service. Without a microphone she filled the building with her beautiful voice.

I know that I don't recall the complete story of this monster of a gold dredge. The pieces of this dredge were manufactured on the east coast of the United States. From there the parts were shipped on railroad to San Francisco where it was assembled in the bay, disassembled, and shipped up to the Davidson Ditch where it was again, reassembled.

Havasu Creek

One of my more enjoyable stops on our trip was the stop at Havasu Creek. Not just for day 6 but for the whole trip. Such a beautiful little side canyon. The walls of this canyon are narrow and tall and steep. This made the hike a bit of a challenge in sandals.
The water here is almost the same turquoise blue as The Little Colorado River but with shades of deep green as well.

Tangle Creek Falls is just off of the Icefields Parkway in Jasper National Park. This beautiful waterfall that has easy side of the road access and should be a must stop place.. This rugged waterfall is 157 feet tall and cascades down several rocky levels as it pitches left and then to the right. I was able to use a slow shutter to give the water a silky appearance.
