They injured their wing a few weeks ago and were unable to fly, so hopped around in the safety of our garden till they'd recovered their strength. Now, they've decided they like it here and stick around long after the other crows have finished their breakfast

I would never have noticed it, sitting quietly up a tree in the shade, across the canal, had a young man with sharper eyes not spotted it ahead of me. I noticed him photographing something as I walked home, some 100 metres ahead of me. He considerately moved on as I approached and gave me a turn with this noble bird 😊

On one of my walks, probably the one on the day before last, I seem to have acquired 3 more horsefly bites in addition to the first one on my hand that is settling down - a smaller one on back of neck, a huge one at the back of my left groin, and a massive, hot, painful one just above my left knee. As a result I've also felt sick, have bad diarrhoea and a few other symptoms, with little option but to sleep it all off

I'm staying in. Maybe forever 😔

Okay, so the image is a bit fuzzy, but don't criticise till you've tried to capture a photo of a mouse eared bat in flight, with low light and a standard kinda camera and lens. At least they were posing nicely 😊🦇

I have found a cool technique that involves holding the camera, trigger ready, with one hand to one eye and using the other eye to track the bat's movements until it's close enough for a shot

I so needed the time I had with the ravens this afternoon. I took a walk to a disused quarry in the side of the escarpment 2 or 3 miles from home and one of my favourite bolt holes, sufficiently off the beaten track that I rarely see another human. So, a moderate walk, but an hour or so just resting peacefully on a grassy bank protected on three sides by high cliff faces. The ravens were my only company today, but that's more than fine.
