If I&#39;m honest, demand for a Nostr-only hardware signer right now wouldn&#39;t justify the time and money on its own. What makes it worth it is the crossover. Bitcoin, privacy, and eventually passkeys all want the same thing.. a key that never leaves a device you can verify. Nostr isn&#39;t the identity layer for all of that yet, but it could be, and a device built for it opens up a lot more than signing notes.<br/><br/>Right now it&#39;s going through compliance testing, RF, battery, circuit safety and so on. Once that&#39;s through I should be able to legally ship dev units, then keep iterating from there toward a proper production run.<br/><br/>It will all be open source, so anyone can build their own or fork it without going through the investment I had to. Two versions. The factory-signed one for people who want the chain of trust handled and a device that will only ever boot what Favilla signed. And an open version that ships with the boot keys unburnt, so you generate your own, sign your own builds, and the device trusts you and nobody else.<br/><br/>The trade is simple. All signing btc and nostr is on a second isolated MCU. USB only goes to the main chip which has no keys on it and we burn off jtag and download mode at manufacture. Secure boot and flash encryption on every board. Every unit is attested so a dodgy factory step can&#39;t make one that passes as genuine. Independent audit happening now.<br/><br/>EMF wise the real version of that attack is a near field probe a few mm off the signing chip with the case open, device unlocked and thousands of signatures. Signing chip has no radio so the long range wifi carrier leak trick doesn&#39;t apply and the aluminium case shields it when closed. Every btc sig needs a physical confirm. Nostr confirm is optional but there&#39;s an accelerometer in it so if you leave it running and someone picks it up it knows. I&#39;m building a signer with a black out back panel and I asked whether it should be clear instead, so the owner can just look at their own board instead of trusting a number on a spec sheet. The fix is keeping your nsec somewhere it can only sign hashes, with each app getting its own permission you can revoke.
