A fantastic conversationalist, warm and open as few starts I've met. (Side note: I also met Robin Curtis [Saavik] at the same con, and she got up from behind her table and *HUGGED ME*. I mean, she seriously squished me! The Mom vibes were real! Tis was... about 26 years ago.) So yeah, when I see Bashir, I remember Mr. Siddig and how wonderful he was, and it just colors my opinion of the character.

For Phlox, it was his different way of looking at the world, and how he navigated living with an (almost) entirely human crew with such aplomb, as well as his general positive outlook and good cheer. Shame we haven't seen any more Denobulans since Enterprise.

This is something that's been on my mind for a while now.

I have... issues... with "neopronouns". I don't object to the idea in principle; gender is not a binary, and I can understand that "they/them" doesn't cut the mustard with a lot of people. However...

Things like "xe/xer" and "fae/faer" make my skin crawl. Again, not because of the concept. It's because they *don't sound at all like natural English*. "fae" is already a term for supernatural, otherworldy beings, used as a noun or an adjective, and "xe" begins with the least-used letter in our language. There are many more, and they all sound/read to me like bad sci-fi or fantasy. I blame my time as an English major in college.

I'm going to have to get over it. These folks have the right to use what they want, to define themselves in whatever way they feel is correct. But I really wish the feel and sound of our language had been kept in mind when they created these new indentifications.
