*of course* there's a tool to upload your google photos data into #Immich 😁

I was slightly disappointed that it's not directly an option in the app, but then I remembered, *hey, it's an open source projekt and someone's probably built something for it!*

And would you look at that, [just the thing I was looking for](https://github.com/simulot/immich-go ) :comfyblobcat:

It's a handy little command line tool that you simply point at the archive you get from google when you export your data, and it's even smart enough to compare the files already on my server (I dumped my phone's pictures a while ago) and skip duplicates, and it'll upgrade files when google has a better version (because for example I downloaded a compressed version back to my phone I guess?)

Also, there's plugins to automatically name your notes based on the creation time for example, so you don't have to name them if you dont want to

It being just a bunch of files has the advantage that if obsidian ever shuts down (or has server issues or whatnot), you'll still own all your notes in a standardized format. Also, every once in a while I'm writing some more technical notes, and being able to open my vault in an IDE and having all the tools I'm used to is handy

I haven't used the official sync yet, but I've had my vault in a OneDrive folder in the past, and recently switched to using SyncThing to sync between my devices (phones and PCs) and while it's not instant, the sync usually happens in 5-10 seconds, that's fast enough for me - once again, it takes a bit of work to set up, but you have the flexibility to do it however you want
