Pretty much exactly why I try to get contractors to do lump sum and they try to get hourly. 😅 I mean, I have to respect both sides on that overall. It's annoying when people take your time arguing and you should definitely be paid for your time. Simultaneously, I have a personal lawyer who does nothing without at least monthly reminders and charges me for reminding him, and a corporate lawyer who submits things I have to proofread to shreds then debits us four figures an hour for fixing their typos I caught. Every contract balance is a gamble.

I think this was a needed skill all along. The number of times friends have told me they wished to carry thinner notebooks ( but then they don't make neat bound volumes on the shelf... unless someone binds them! ) or wished they could bind their notes from university... Every friend who learned book binding loved and used it. It bridges the ephemeral and the valued, in a way that has never stopped mattering, while demystifying our shelves and freeing us to see ourselves as part of the creation of lasting volumes.

Just unscrew fifteen unlabeled things in bad locations, know the trick to six simultaneous latch points, and don't get cut when the fucking thing jumps in your hands; also don't drop it on your foot again. No wood screws involved (usually), no funky sockets, didn't need to raise it up with a jack. "Easy."

You shouldn't have to, the arrogant European authors adding French words in English texts without contextual cues should've, but I think there are upsides to doing so if it's not too much work. Even with clear context, as another commenter here noted, people may turn to the internet for interpretation and then who knows where they end up. I also appreciate glossaries for feeling more confident in inference from context, and for cultural context hints outside the main textual flow.
