With Ceuta Spanish, Spain controls the Strait of Gibraltar from both sides. Sure, Ceuta makes for a land border between the EU and Africa. It would be easier to ‘defend’ ‘Fortress Europe’ against the ‘hordes of illegal immigrants’ (pardon my language) if the border were the Strait instead of the Ceuta outpost. But I reckon that controlling access to the Mediterranean and Black Sea outweighs dealing with a wave of immigrants every once in a while. That is the sensible reasoning.

For the other approach: MAGA wants to destroy Europe from within. Refugees are the perfect means to drive up tensions, because they give the far right kindling to stoke up the fires of discontent. So Ceuta in Spanish hands suits MAGA fine: it’s guaranteed to keep stirring up trouble, both within and between EU countries. It plays into their hands. They are not really going to try to change that.

The way I look at it: AI is going to be used to find vulnerabilities, period. Because AI analysis does find vulnerabilities. The choice is between the author finding them first, or waiting until bad actors exploit them. Bad actors don’t give a rat’s patootie about your ethical stance. For them, AI is a tool that works, so if you refuse to use AI to find vulnerabilities, the more they will find.

The problem is that dialogue requires two parties willing to engage in it, where violence needs only one. If one party chooses violence, then it is a mistake to expect dialogue to end it. Violence only ends when it becomes too costly compared to its rewards.

2) Watch countries make themselves dependent on that gas and oil supply.
3) Watch prices soar when cheap gas and oil are no longer available due to sanctions.
4) Support political figures on the far and extreme right.
5) Have them campaign on the cost of living.
