Thank you! Not looking forward to recovery but I've been in pain for so long that at this point I've developed a tolerance for pain so the recovery pain doesn't worry me as much. Plus, I'm already on the board with two shoulder surgeries, lol.

They're pretty low key.

When the crow murders gather together in winter you can come across a group of 50-100 in one tree. I love crows but it really feels like a scene from Hitchcocks "The Birds". Very spooky!

I'm lucky because prairie is being restored all over town and some of the plants are in such abundance that I've felt comfortable harvesting seeds for my own garden knowing my impact should be minimal. For the same reasons. The trouble with the St John's wort is that the medicinal variety people plant in gardens is actually native to Eurasia, can be invasive, and is hard to distinguish from the native species🤷‍♂️.

I go back there from time to time to try to find it and see if it had spread but the natural prairie changes from yr to yr. Would have loved to collect seeds but I didn't get a chance. I started these in my garden from seed I purchased from a vendor that specializes in native plants and sells 7 different species. They are a different species from the one I found in the wild.

That isn't actually "natural" light highlighting this purple poppy mallow but sunlight reflected from a window above & across the driveway. Until yesterday I had no idea that a portion of my garden had a secret sunlight stash 🤷‍♂️.

Daisy fleabane closeup.

Only 0.5-0.75 in (1.2-1.9 cm) wide, it's easy to see why its called "daisy" though it's not a true daisy but a relative. Get lots that pop up around the property b/c it's a fast spreader.

That is butterfly weed or orange butterfly weed aka Asclepias tuberosa. Native where I live in Iowa and eastern and southwestern US. It tends to be a 1-3.5ft tall single stalk plant that has a clump of flower at the end but when you plant it close together it becomes/looks bushy👍.

First time I saw that color I was blown away. Couldn't wait ...

The nice thing about using a macro lens is that, even in shade, the low f-stop & the lens design allows you crop heavily. In this case ~1/9th the original.

Then you get to see the surprises you didn't know were there 👀.
