I think it's mostly about how it was sold. If it was a $25 lifetime license, and now they're trying to charge another $25, that's BS. It's about the expectation they set.

It baffles me that apple users accept these kind of bugs. As a person who's forced to use apple products for work, but uses every other platform outside of work, I get cut by all these tiny bugs littered through apple products that people in the eco system don't even realize. When I ask people about how they deal with all the issues, the typical response is "What issues? There's nothing wrong.". Then I sit with them for 5 minutes, point out half a dozen flaws they're combating subconsciously and how other platforms don't have those flaws, and they just shrug and carry on. Baffling to me.

How to you mess up scrolling? How do you mess up cut and paste? How to you mess up page up/page down. These are things other platforms have working flawlessly for decades.

I REALLY wish I could get someone to prescribe me ADHD meds. American healthcare systems are so crap, even with a well paying job and good medical insurance, they just deflect me around instead of letting me talk to someone who will even consider prescribing me meds.

I'm pretty bitter about these sorts of devices, especially when Apple lets you sort of rely on them as medical devices, since they have some level of FDA approval.

I had a friend and room mate who had a pretty serious heart condition, and I was on his "text me if something goes wrong". He was in a minor fender bender one time, and it alerted me for rapid declaration. He was fine.

6 months later, I woke up to find him dead in his bed room from said heart condition, wearing his Apple watch which had had no reaction to his heart issue and subsequent death.

So, don't let these things give you a false sense of security. Apple are just in it to make money. Not for your well-being.

I used to do that, and just found that it consumed so much of my time, it wasn't worth it. Granted, that was because I received 100+ emails a day, so if you have lower volume, this may work for you.

I've endeavored to make all the core functionality of stuff like this all be locally controlled. I don't want thing like my alarm or my ability to turn lights on and off be dependent on the internet, or the whims of some mega corp when they may decide to discontinue said service.

This is why I moved to local Home Assistant.

You can still get the convenience of Homekit controlled stuff (since HA will integrate with Homekit pretty well), but local control still works when that is broken.
