I have one circuit in my house that runs 3 overhead lights and a wall outlet. Yesterday, it suddenly threw the breaker, nothing weird was happening, I was just sitting there.
After a bit, I managed to narrow it down to one hanging light fixture, which was installed a year ago. You can see in the video - I first check that the light bulbs are good in a different fixture, then I try to screw them into different sockets in the chandelier while it's energized. When I do that, an arc happens and the circuit breaker is thrown. Happens in all the sockets.
Again, NOTHING has changed in this circuit, this chandelier has been sitting there like this for a year, and all of a sudden, this. Why?

I really need a job. I've been looking for 5 years. I make about $60k/yr building the occasional web app for one company and a non-profit, but it isn't cutting it.

I am hard to classify. I've been a CTO or chief architect of small startups and small companies. I have a agile, plastic mind, and I can figure out pretty much any problem thrown at me. I've designed pci cards, I've tuned dye lasers, I'm a reasonably good audio engineer, I can make furniture and frame a room, I can do nearly anything. Most of the things I've done well I've done without prior specific expertise. I'm good when I'm in over my head.

I've led small teams, sure, but that's nothing compared to having led punk bands on tour across the country, bringing everyone home alive and having no-one spend more than a few hours in police custody. I have a wildly diverse set of experiences, which I can apply in useful ways.

Most of all, I want useful work, to not be tossed into the trash because I'm over 50.

Modern cars have a problem: Let's say you're driving down mission street on the way to pick your kid up from school, and there are two cars full of teenagers street racing down the bus lane, but you need to turn right on 29th, so you block their street racing, and they get crazed with road rage and spend the next 5 minutes chasing you around Noe valley trying to block your way so they can drag you from your car and beat you up. If you think it would be a good idea to ram the side of their car so that their doors stop working, it's hard to tell how hard you can hit them without setting off your air bag. So that's an issue.
Fortunately, I lost them and managed to get to school on time.
Unfortunately, I didn't manage to kill any of them as they tried to block my path.
Street fights are always so unsatisfying.

I may not know how to use whatever software your company fancies right now, but I do know how to figure things out par excellence.
I didn't know how credit card processing worked when I built a fleet of 100 600-baud modems to process cards.
I didn't know how relational databases worked when I built a load balanced cluster serving a top-500 website from a single rack of machines.
I didn't know how rabbitmq or sphinx worked when I included them in a pipeline I designed for ingesting the twitter firehose.
I didn't know how circuit board drill instructions worked when I designed my first IDE board.
I didn't know how skidata interfaced with their API when I needed to design a voice-activated parking garage app in German.

The point is, I figure things out. Pretty much anything. If you can use someone like that, hire me.
