With "Snippets: Configure Snippets", you could add a global snippet

That's kind of part of my point: with JSX, you're then forced to use IDL attributes when for teaching web technologies, I'd much rather let new devs add the "class" content attribute which they would in HTML as well.

Though you're right that the IDL/content attribute difference doesn't have to be taught _that_ early.

I maintain my parents' artist/portfolio website (naturally, built with Eleventy). Now, they asked if there's a way how they can maintain content (photos in image galleries, text content in posts and pages) themselves. That is to say this *has* to be GUI-based and dead-simple. No finagling with Markdown, git, GitHub. But I also want to build the site myself.

What're current day cool kid CMS-y solutions for this kind of purpose?

For example, I believe it's nebulous at best for many people in the field for way too long that, ultimately, a web server just provides access to files in a very similar way they're made available on a computer. Sure, lots of rules to account for, but opening https://example.org/directory/file.html and having that relate to a concrete file on disk is one key part of understand how it all connects. Something you can easily lose sight of with build tools, etc.

There's something to be said about being pragmatic and teaching what they will likely end up using; however, it does immediately involve a lot of JS tooling and magic which is extremely daunting.

I like the idea of using a basic http server and would try and avoid build steps altogether. You pretty quickly motivate the need for some form of templating to re-use markup while focusing on true fundamentals.
