Ah, I responded to your first post, before I saw n=5. So we agree as far as the other ships redshifting into nothingness. Though here (in n=5) you continued with:

I think as he approaches they would not get brighter because they are also continuing toward the event horizon in the same (or similar time dilated) reference frame.

Upon entering the zone where all EM is being pulled into the whirlpool-like gravity well, light no longer escapes. Nothing is visible after that.

When he crosses he ceases to exist as well due to extreme gravity. He wouldn't see anything, not because all light is subsumed but because the observer's atomic structure is converted into fundamental particles under irresistible gravity.

But who can say for sure...

I think they wouldn't see anything "ahead" since light is no longer moving outward. Prior to the event horizon they'd see the other ships redshift and fade into blackness as they crossed over one by one... and very slowly due to relativistic time dilation.
