I think we were beginning to get too comfortable with games telling what to do and where to go. This was so different, so trippy, there were so many things to discover. I still remember the weird shapes, the sounds of the Yume Nikki walking, when you finally get the bike, and of course, of the ending. <br/>I think the closest to a fascination game like that I ever felt again was Undertale (which was NOT made in RPG Maker, but GameMaker, another completely different engine).
