I have a box of chickpea pasta in the cupboard that I got for free from the buy nothing group and can't make myself face (I ate the first box of the two I got so I already know how box number 2 will go).

Apparently "thought to bring toppings" was a big deal. I think dessert also gives a similar halo effect of "people put thought into this", which is why it usually goes over well (though the guy who ate 3 peanut butter blondies just really liked them).

Is the entire north side of this town slowly filling with people who never leave?

quoting
note1rfe…w8hy

On Thursday 3rd September 2026 there were 1,613 cyclists northbound and 1,542 cyclists southbound.

Evergreen rant: if you are giving book recommendations you need to both both "read the brief" as it were, but also consider "is this actually appropriate to recommend or am I just nostalgic about it?"

Examples seen today: For a 12 YO girl someone wants to steer away from bad relationship models: Jim Butcher's Dresden Files series, Anne Rice's Vampire books

also if you have to write "I don't know if these are appropriate for a 12 YO girl, I'm a 50 YO guy" maybe you should reconsider making recommendations in this case? you weren't required to respond...

(and yes, we readers all love to share our favorites, that doesn't make every favorite appropriate for every situation!)
