When working from my home office, I regularly switch between my corporate Mac and my personal Mac. Since I share the same Apple Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse between both machines, switching devices used to be a bit annoying. Most of the time, I ended up plugging in a cable just to move them to the other Mac (and of course first wasting time to find a lightning to USB-C cable).

So I crafted "a Keyboard Switcher" which is an open-source macOS menu bar application that makes it easier to switch paired Bluetooth input devices between Macs. Instead of manually reconnecting everything, you can simply release devices on one Mac and connect them on the other with just a few clicks.

Some of the features include:
Connect or release individual Bluetooth devices

Group multiple devices, such as a Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse, and switch them together

Use global hotkeys to switch device groups without opening the menu

Get an overview of paired and connected devices directly from the macOS menu bar

The goal was simple: Solve a small but annoying problem in my daily workflow without adding unnecessary complexity. The project is open source, and the source code is available on my git server and GitHub. If you use multiple Macs and share your Apple input devices between them, feel free to give it a try. Feedback and contributions are always welcome!

Blog: https://gyptazy.com/blog/akeyboardswitcher-quickly-switch-apple-keyboard-mouse-trackpad-between-multiple-macs/
Download: https://cdn.gyptazy.com/macos/akeyboardswitcher/
Source (Github): https://github.com/gyptazy/akeyboardswitcher
Source (gyptazy): https://git.gyptazy.com/gyptazy/akeyboardswitcher

#opensource #Mac #macOS #bluetooth #akeyboardswitcher #foss #swift #swiftui

Just added direct file level restore INTO the guest VM object in #PegaProx for #Proxmox VE based systems.

Directly restore files from backup to VMs in #Proxmox with #PegaProx!

No more awkward workflow where you first have to download the file to your local machine and then upload it back into the VM.

Requirements:
The initial implementation has a few requirements and limitations:
Backups must be stored on a Proxmox Backup Server. Local backups are currently not supported.

The VM must have the QEMU Guest Agent installed and enabled.

The VM must be running while the restore operation is performed.

This feature probably takes place in version 1.4.0 which might make it right to the #Proxday. Currently, mostly tech related instances are connected, focusing on #Linux, #Proxmox, #BSD / #FreeBSD, #IPv6 and many other things!

More information at: https://fedi-relay.gyptazy.com

#socialmedia #fedi #fediwall #fediverse #activitypub #activitypubrelay #relay #social #snac #snac2 #mastodon #gts #gotosocial #littlefedi #pleroma #misskey #services #devops #starling #tech

Interesting, uninteresting, or just plain boring… My #Proxmox cluster on #ARM64!

I took some time today to create a PVE test cluster on my outdated hardware in NYC and it's interesting, uninteresting, or better said just plain boring. And this is good!

It just works and (mostly) behaves just like you know and would assume. Everything is mostly the same (sure, some things on hw level might be a bit different when playing near hardware) and you want to make sure your hardware supports H flag.

Adapting to #aarch64 might be a good choice, even professional systems became cheaper. Keeping all automation, config and tools might make it even easier. For me it's now about integrating further arm64 support into #PegaProx and creating arm64 based artifacts!

Shifting from #Proxmox to #Sylve (on #FreeBSD + #bhyve) including #Ansible automation!

When talking about open-source virtualization platforms, Proxmox VE is probably one of the first solutions that comes to mind. It combines KVM virtual machines, LXC containers, storage, networking and clustering behind a convenient management interface.
But what if you want to build the same kind of environment on FreeBSD?
This is exactly where Sylve becomes interesting.

https://gyptazy.com/blog/sylve-freebsd-ansible-module-automation/

#freebsd #ansible #automation #cicd #bsd #runbsd

Meet #Starling, a lightweight #ActivityPub server for the #Fediverse, built with PHP and SQLite.

Run your own decentralized social platform on shared hosting or a tiny VPS WITHOUT Redis, PostgreSQL, or complex infrastructure.

What it makes so special to me? Without it, I’d have dropped in the early times… thanks a lot for creating and also for still maintaining it!

I'm a huge Proxmox fan, but there're of course several different cool solutions. Next to #Proxmox, I also often use #incus [0] in personal labs but I'm also a huge fan of #XCPng with #Orechstra. #SuseHarvester 's [2] approach is also a great solution (similar to #Platform9) if you want to go into the modern world (in the end, they're also using KVM). If it's just single node, I really would also consider #bhyve on #FreeBSD (maybe even via #ClonOS / #cbsd).

[0]: https://gyptazy.com/incus-for-containers-and-vms-a-powerful-proxmox-alternative-a-step-by-step-guide-to-build-a-cluster/
[1]: https://gyptazy.com/blog/xcpng-a-more-professional-alternative-to-proxmox-based-on-xen/
[2]: https://gyptazy.com/blog/harvester-a-more-modern-alternative-to-proxmox/

Alex Kretzschmar (npub1mvj…jlw0)
