Te Araroa day 5: Rainy road walks and friendly cows

The six of us woke up at the Ahipara holiday park and slowly got our things together. By 10am, we were all packed up and ready to hit the road. The next section of trail consists of a 15km road walk into Kaitaia, followed by 6km of walking on state highway 1 and 15 further kilometres of quieter roads to reach the next section of track. Initially, I had assumed I would walk all or most of this. ...
The post Te Araroa day 5: Rainy road walks and friendly cows appeared first on The Trek.

https://thetrek.co/te-araroa-day-5-rainy-road-walks-and-friendly-cows/

#road #kaitaia #initially

#rss #feeds #linksharing #qwibbit

Day 27: The Day She Finally Rests

On my first rest day since starting the Camino, my body didn’t want to sleep.
The urge to think and write was too strong to ignore. 18. Water in the Desert

I looked across the river. The churning water was so thick with silt that the flow had turned a milky gray-green. A coyote’s lonely squalling unfurled like smoke in the dawn, unanswered. Just a fingernail sliver of a moon above the horizon.
Slowly, heavily, I pulled my feet up and out of the quicksand. The gelatinous muddy bank sucked at my shoes and almost took one, but didn’t. While higher-latitude and higher-elevation sections can face early winter conditions, the mid-Atlantic and southern AT truly shine during this time of year.
We’ve put together a list of 10 trips perfect for November on the AT.
