Version 1.4 of the book is out as well. After a further check against primary sources, it is up to date as of October 2026 in many places. The way backups are checked has been reworked: a full test at setup and after every fundamental change, plus a yearly look at the seals.

That is why v1.5 of Book 2 "Digital Sovereignty" names Quad9 as the replacement and shows the changed settings. New in the book, among other things: Thunderbird with OpenPGP, your own domains and aliases with Proton in a worked example, smart TVs and voice assistants, passkeys, and Lightning from a privacy angle. All chapters were checked again against primary sources.

Band 2 „Digitale Souveränität“ nennt deshalb in v1.5 Quad9 als Ersatz und zeigt die geänderten Einstellungen. Neu im Buch sind unter anderem Thunderbird mit OpenPGP, eigene Domains und Aliasse mit Proton an einem durchgespielten Beispiel, Smart-TV und Sprachassistenten, Passkeys und Lightning aus Sicht der Privatsphäre. • If the passphrase is right but the content of the vault file is damaged or altered, the app now says so and does not count a failed attempt. Fingerprint and PIN stay set up.
• Entries from a newer app version are no longer silently trimmed.
• Linux desktop: selections are cleared from the middle-click selection more reliably.

The app itself stays offline, no internet permission (fingerprint only). Update via Obtainium, Zap Store or the download page; on the Linux desktop make a backup, uninstall the old version and install the new Flatpak.

Alongside notes and checklists there is now a third note type. Draw with a finger, on the Linux desktop with the mouse: freehand, lines, arrows and simple shapes, plus a stroke eraser and a grid for alignment. The app stores lines in the same encrypted file, not images.

Worth knowing before you update: the file now carries version 2. Older app versions no longer open it, so update phone and desktop together. The app itself stays offline, without network permission.

Alien Notes 1.12: a note as a file.

The new "As file" button saves the open note as a Markdown file. Readable in any text editor and in Obsidian, checklists as "- [ ]" and "- [x]". The file is unencrypted, so the app asks first. The suggested file name only carries date and time, never the title.

On the Linux desktop it goes through the save dialog, on Android through the share sheet. The app itself stays offline, without network permission.

Just an idea: you could run Cloudflare’s open-source security audit skill on your code with Claude Code and let it hunt for bugs and vulnerabilities:

Sachwert-Tresor, Alien Pass, Alien Notes, Alien Fitness and Ausgaben-Tracker live at api.alien-investor.org/downloads/. The address belongs to us, not to a platform. Every release is still mirrored on GitHub.

Whether an APK is genuine is decided by its signature, not by the server. Every app carries the same certificate fingerprint as before, wherever you download it.

Zap Store: nothing to do, updates arrive as usual.

GrapheneOS is getting a second hardware partner. Motorola and the GrapheneOS Foundation announced a long-term partnership at MWC in March. The project names the Motorola Signature 27 as the first device, with support planned for 2027.

It is the first non-Pixel device since the Nexus era. Motorola is building its flagships around the project's requirements: hardware memory tagging (MTE), a secure element, long update periods.

The real gain: GrapheneOS no longer depends on Google alone for firmware and drivers. According to GrapheneOS, the Pixel 11 series shows why that matters, with MTE disabled in its firmware.

It will not get cheaper to start for now. The Signature 27 is a high-end device, and whether it will ship with GrapheneOS preinstalled is still open. If you want to switch today, a Pixel remains a solid choice.

GrapheneOS bekommt einen zweiten Hardware-Partner. Motorola und die GrapheneOS Foundation haben im März auf dem MWC eine langfristige Partnerschaft angekündigt. Als erstes Gerät nennt das Projekt das Motorola Signature 27, die Unterstützung soll 2027 kommen.

Es ist das erste Nicht-Pixel-Gerät seit der Nexus-Zeit. Motorola baut seine Flaggschiffe dafür nach den Anforderungen des Projekts: Hardware-Memory-Tagging (MTE), Secure Element, lange Update-Zeiträume.

Der eigentliche Gewinn: GrapheneOS hängt bei Firmware und Treibern nicht mehr allein an Google. Wie wichtig das ist, zeigt laut GrapheneOS die Pixel-11-Reihe, bei der MTE in der Firmware abgeschaltet ist.

Günstiger wird der Einstieg vorerst nicht. Das Signature 27 ist ein Oberklasse-Gerät, und ob es GrapheneOS ab Werk gibt, ist offen. Wer heute umsteigen will, fährt mit einem Pixel weiter gut.

Starting today, Google checks who built an app in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand. Apps from unregistered developers can no longer be installed there through Google Play and six manufacturer stores.

This is the test run. From 2027 the rule is meant to apply worldwide on every certified Android phone, including APKs from outside the stores. What remains then is ADB or an unlock with a 24-hour waiting period.

F-Droid takes the hardest hit. F-Droid signs the apps itself, and the project explicitly advises developers against registering with Google.

GrapheneOS is not affected. The rule only applies to Google-certified devices and is enforced through Google's services. GrapheneOS is not certified, and Google Play only runs there in a sandbox like a regular app, if at all.

Ab heute prüft Google in Brasilien, Indonesien, Singapur und Thailand, wer eine App gebaut hat. Apps unregistrierter Entwickler lassen sich dort über Google Play und sechs Hersteller-Stores nicht mehr installieren.

Das ist der Testlauf. Ab 2027 soll die Regel weltweit auf allen zertifizierten Android-Phones gelten, auch für APKs von außerhalb der Stores. Dann bleiben nur ADB oder eine Freischaltung mit 24 Stunden Wartezeit.

Am härtesten trifft es F-Droid. Dort signiert F-Droid die Apps selbst, und das Projekt rät Entwicklern ausdrücklich von der Google-Registrierung ab.

GrapheneOS ist nicht betroffen. Die Regel gilt nur für Google-zertifizierte Geräte und wird über die Google-Dienste durchgesetzt. GrapheneOS ist nicht zertifiziert, Google Play läuft dort höchstens in einer Sandbox wie eine normale App.

Dein Betriebssystem entscheidet, ob Google mitredet, was du installierst. 🔓

Tomorrow, on 29 September, Council, Parliament and Commission hold their sixth round of talks on Chat Control. The Irish Council presidency wants an agreement on detection obligations and own-initiative searches.

An internal Council paper (11956/26) suggests authorising time-limited "search plans" instead of assessing each case individually. To me that is suspicionless scanning under a new name. Whoever searches services in advance is no longer looking for a suspect, they treat everyone as one.

The exclusion of encrypted communication is so far only provisionally agreed. And the voluntary Chat Control for unencrypted messages has been back in force since July, until April 2028.

I am not waiting for Brussels. Volume 1 shows how to free your smartphone from Google with GrapheneOS. Volume 2 makes Linux the foundation and builds a home network, aliases and Nostr on top, under European law.

Morgen, am 29. September, verhandeln Rat, Parlament und Kommission zum sechsten Mal über die Chatkontrolle. Die irische Ratspräsidentschaft will eine Einigung über Aufdeckungspflichten und Suchen auf eigene Initiative.

Ein internes Ratspapier (11956/26) schlägt dafür vor, statt jedes Einzelfalls zeitlich befristete „Suchpläne" zu genehmigen. Für mich ist das anlassloses Scannen unter neuem Namen. Wer Dienste auf Vorrat durchsucht, sucht keinen Verdächtigen mehr, er verdächtigt alle.

Der Ausschluss verschlüsselter Kommunikation gilt bisher nur als vorläufig vereinbart. Und die freiwillige Chatkontrolle für unverschlüsselte Nachrichten läuft seit Juli wieder, bis April 2028.

Ich warte nicht auf Brüssel. Band 1 zeigt, wie du dein Smartphone mit GrapheneOS von Google löst. Band 2 macht Linux zum Fundament und baut darauf Heimnetz, Aliasse und Nostr nach deutschem Recht. Beide im Direktverkauf.

After the Coldcard incident I wanted to know what happens when a single device fails. So for my book I built a multisig for the first time, with three devices from three manufacturers.

My conclusion: multisig is not more security, it is more responsibility. The new video (German audio, English subtitles) shows how 2 of 3 works, why the descriptor is the forgotten backup, which device does not remember your wallet and where I stumbled during my first setup. And honestly: for many people a good single-key wallet with a strong passphrase is the better choice.

Nach dem Coldcard-Vorfall wollte ich wissen, was passiert, wenn ein einzelnes Gerät versagt. Also habe ich für mein Buch zum ersten Mal ein Multisig gebaut, mit drei Geräten von drei Herstellern.

Mein Fazit: Multisig ist kein Mehr an Sicherheit, sondern ein Mehr an Verantwortung. A screenshot taken with the delete prompt open showed the entry title while the app behind it was black. Found during the device test of the sister app Alien Notes: the Android system dialog does not inherit the app's screenshot protection, even though FLAG_SECURE covers everything else.

Alien Pass v1.9 moves every confirmation into the app's own window. Eleven places, from delete to wipe vault, each with its own button instead of a bare OK. A lock while the question is open discards the answer.

Also new: undo for six seconds after deleting, and multi-select: several entries at once to the trash, into a category or as favourites. Android and Linux desktop in one release, vault format unchanged. Sachwert-Tresor, Alien Fitness and Ausgaben-Tracker get the same fix next.

Alien Pass v1.9 zieht jede Rückfrage in das Fenster der App. Elf Stellen, von Löschen bis Tresor löschen, jede mit eigenem Knopf statt einem nackten OK. Eine Sperre während der Frage lässt die Antwort verfallen.

Dazu ein Rückgängig für sechs Sekunden nach dem Löschen und eine Mehrfachauswahl: mehrere Einträge auf einmal in den Papierkorb, in eine Kategorie oder als Favorit. Android und Linux-Desktop in einem Release, Tresorformat unverändert. Sachwert-Tresor, Alien Fitness und Ausgaben-Tracker bekommen denselben Fix als Nächstes.

The Sachwert-Tresor now runs on the Linux desktop too. The same code as the Android app, packaged as a Flatpak without network permission and without file access. Backup, import and exports only go through the system file dialog, verifiable with flatpak info --show-permissions. Import a backup from the phone on the desktop and vice versa, for example via Syncthing.

Right behind it v3.4 with a fix from real use: a backup used to carry the Aegis hurdle along. Anyone who no longer had the Aegis entry locked themselves out while restoring. Now 2FA applies only to the device where you set it up. A backup always stays the way out, no code required.

Desktop packages ship with a GPG-signed checksum, the same release key as Alien Pass:

Der Sachwert-Tresor läuft jetzt auch am Linux-Desktop. Derselbe Code wie in der Android-App, verpackt als Flatpak ohne Netzwerk-Berechtigung und ohne Dateizugriff. Backup, Import und Exporte laufen nur über den Dateidialog des Systems, nachprüfbar mit flatpak info --show-permissions. Ein Backup vom Handy importierst du am Desktop und umgekehrt, zum Beispiel über Syncthing.

Gleich hinterher v3.4 mit einer Korrektur aus der Praxis: Ein Backup brachte bisher die Aegis-Hürde mit. Wer den Aegis-Eintrag nicht mehr hatte, sperrte sich beim Wiederherstellen selbst aus. Jetzt gilt 2FA nur auf dem Gerät, auf dem du sie einrichtest. Ein Backup bleibt damit immer der Notausgang ohne Code.

Since v1.8 there is a box for that: fingerprint also after a restart, off by default, the choice is authenticated inside the key slot and cannot be rewritten later.

The Linux desktop gets quick unlock with a PIN, after a lock instead of the passphrase, in memory only, at most 24 hours. Honestly: the PIN never protects the vault file, six digits fall in roughly ten minutes on a graphics card. It only protects the copy of the key in RAM.

In one case, police linked the accounts of witnesses, not only the suspect.

The irony of it all is that German security agencies warn the public about this exact attack when criminals or foreign services run it.

The Federal Court of Justice ruled in January that secretly attaching to an account counts as source interception, which rules out hoovering up chats from before the order.

Hi, I really like White Noise and use it regularly.
I'm running into a problem though: the app no longer recognises Amber. On the login screen there's no option to sign in with an external signer at all. Only the private key input is available, and I'd rather not paste my nsec into an app.
Amber is installed in the same Android user profile and works fine with other Nostr clients on the same device. I've also seen at least three other users report the same thing in the Zapstore comments, all on the same version.
Is this something you're already working on, or is it a known issue?
Environment: White Noise v2026.5.22 (installed via Zapstore), Amber 6.6.4, GrapheneOS build 2026091901, Android 17.

Sommer2024Sommer has 16 characters. Until now Alien Pass called it "strong", because the meter only counted length and words.

Since v1.6 the app spots typical patterns: repetitions, keyboard runs, years, common words also as P4ssw0rd. Such passwords get the flag "predictable" in the list, and for a weak vault passphrase the app asks first. The meter honestly calls itself an estimate. Truly strong is what the generator makes.

v1.6.1 closes a gap in fingerprint unlock, found in the internal audit of the sister app Sachwert-Tresor: whoever knows your device PIN and enrolls their own finger was silently taken over after a restart. Now the app sets nothing up and shows a warning until you have read it.

Sommer2024Sommer hat 16 Zeichen. Alien Pass hat es bisher „stark“ genannt, weil die Anzeige nur Länge und Wörter gezählt hat.

Seit v1.6 erkennt die App typische Muster: Wiederholungen, Tastaturfolgen, Jahreszahlen, häufige Wörter auch als P4ssw0rt. Solche Passwörter bekommen in der Liste das Kennzeichen „vorhersagbar“, und bei einer schwachen Tresor-Passphrase fragt die App nach. Die Anzeige nennt sich ehrlich Schätzung. Wirklich stark ist, was der Generator erzeugt.

v1.6.1 schließt eine Lücke beim Fingerabdruck, gefunden im internen Audit der Schwester-App Sachwert-Tresor: Wer deine Geräte-PIN kennt und einen eigenen Finger registriert, wurde nach einem Neustart still übernommen. Jetzt richtet die App nichts ein und zeigt eine Warnung, bis du sie gelesen hast.

Alien Pass v1.5 just went out: a trash bin, custom pickers and a fresh security audit before release. From device test to Zap Store listing took one evening. No corporation had to approve it.

Alien Pass, Sachwert-Tresor, Ausgaben-Tracker und Alien Fitness laufen komplett offline und kommen über den Zap Store aufs Handy. Veröffentlicht wird mit meinem Nostr-Schlüssel, signiert mit Amber auf dem Handy. Das Signaturzertifikat der APKs ist per Identity-Proof mit meinem npub verknüpft. So lässt sich prüfen, dass eine App wirklich von mir stammt.

Gerade ging Alien Pass v1.5 raus: Papierkorb, eigene Auswahlmenüs und vorher ein neues Sicherheits-Audit. Vom Gerätetest bis zum Eintrag im Zap Store hat es einen Abend gedauert. Freigeben musste das kein Konzern.

Alien Pass v1.3 is out: bank accounts, and one warning less.

New entry type Account: holder, IBAN, BIC, bank and an optional PIN. The list shows the IBAN masked, the PIN only on request. IBAN and BIC are shown in the detail view, because you need them for transfers.

Gone is the "unchanged for two years" flag. A strong random password does not weaken with time. NIST and the German BSI have advised against calendar-driven changes for years: change a password when it may have leaked. Reused and short passwords stay flagged.

The generator's character mode now counts honestly: requiring every character set to appear costs a little entropy, and that is subtracted instead of glossed over.

Neu ist der Eintragstyp Konto: Inhaber, IBAN, BIC, Bank und optional die PIN. Die Liste zeigt die IBAN nur maskiert, die PIN erscheint erst auf Anfrage. IBAN und BIC stehen im Detail offen, weil man sie zum Überweisen braucht.

Gestrichen ist die Markierung „seit zwei Jahren unverändert“. Ein starkes Zufallspasswort wird mit der Zeit nicht schwächer. NIST und BSI raten seit Jahren vom Wechsel nach Kalender ab: Gewechselt wird, wenn ein Passwort geleakt sein könnte. Wiederverwendet und zu kurz bleiben markiert.

Dazu rechnet der Generator im Zeichen-Modus jetzt ehrlich: Die Pflicht, dass jeder Zeichensatz vorkommt, kostet ein wenig Entropie, und das wird abgezogen statt geschönt.

The data key is additionally wrapped under a random key that the Android keystore releases only after a strong biometric. None of it enters backups. The passphrase stays the real protection: required after every restart, after a passphrase change and whenever a new fingerprint is enrolled. And "Lock now" is the deliberate bolt for a border or handing your phone over: afterwards only the passphrase opens the vault.

A third security audit before the release, nine findings, all fixed. Still no internet permission, only the one for the fingerprint sensor.

The PGP-encrypted export from Proton Pass travels to the phone untouched and is only decrypted inside the app. Plaintext never touches the device. Logins with TOTP, notes, credit cards and the vaults as categories come along.

Also new: three entry types (login, note, card), categories with filters, an optional Aegis hurdle on unlock. Copied passwords are flagged sensitive for Android, so the system preview no longer shows them.

Still zero permissions, no network, Argon2id and AES-256-GCM. A second security audit before release, every finding fixed and covered by tests.

Ein Passwort-Manager, der Proton-Exporte verschlüsselt liest: Alien Pass 1.1 ist da.

Der PGP-verschlüsselte Export aus Proton Pass wandert unverändert aufs Handy und wird erst in der App entschlüsselt. Der Klartext berührt das Gerät nie. Logins mit TOTP, Notizen, Kreditkarten und die Tresore als Kategorien kommen mit.

Neu außerdem: drei Eintragstypen (Login, Notiz, Karte), Kategorien mit Filter, eine optionale Aegis-Hürde beim Entsperren. Kopierte Passwörter sind für Android als sensibel markiert, die System-Vorschau zeigt sie nicht mehr.

Weiterhin null Berechtigungen, kein Netz, Argon2id und AES-256-GCM. Vor dem Release ein zweiter Security-Audit, alle Funde behoben und mit Tests abgesichert.
