I was out there helping my neighbours. At least five of us had water in our basements. This is exactly why I'm so fucking prepared. It's happened many times before.

I cleaned all the storm sewers around me twice during the 16 cm rainfall but i couldn't pump water out of their basements or their backyards because i had my own problems.

Yes, i do. During the last storm, i pumped thousands of gallons / litres of water out of my basement per hour. Luckily, we still had grid power to do that.

I have a line between willingly losing thousands of dollars of investment and my potential use of propane to charge my batteries if need be should the grid be out for a day or two and no solar to collect.

I just read an interesting statement. Fans work more effectively when it is humid (but only to a point).

When it is humid, your skin has a tougher time evaporating sweat and the greater air volume helps, thus it cools you.

If the air is dry, your sweat (provided you are generating some) should evaporate just fine and the extra air mostly results in more heat being blasted at you.

Eventually, over 30 degrees, it really stops mattering because of the extra blast of heat overpowers the effect of sweating and the correct course of action is to go some place cooler.

So, don't stay outside too long today in #Ottawa.

Hydro and wind are / can be 24 hours sources of electricity. Solar can provide the bump in daytime power when the demand is also the highest.

We don't actually need that much power in the middle of the night which is why properly managed hydro doesn't generate much power at night.

That's still a place for nuclear but we should think strategically about power sources and demand and design things cohesively.

China, for example, loves solar during the day but falls back to coal at night. Their push seems to be, depending on what you read, to shift night coal to battery.

California's plan is to use battery during the peak demand evening.

Australia generates so much solar power, they they give away power in the afternoon. People can then charge batteries for free to get them through the evening.

So many interesting and cheap approaches but Ontario isn't that smart. Probably because they're isn't enough grift.
