Pre-90s there was more focus on writing with no standardized measurement. Then in the 90s there was a huge reform of the education system to have everything be more standardized and thus &#34;objective&#34;. AP English equivalent became more history of literature (it&#39;s easier to standardize that on one choice answer tests as we know what happened) and way less of writing with more focus on the form of the text. Due to those reforms (as I&#39;ve grown after them) I never properly learned how to write and now have to do it whilst writing my master&#39;s thesis (which is also stupidly formalized). In schooling nowadays it just has to look like an essay to be accepted as good enough, back then you had to prove that you know what you are talking about to have it accepted. The current gen will have it the worst as their parents born and educated after the reform won&#39;t be even able to teach or help them since they weren&#39;t taught themselves how to write anything of substance.
