After 5 years of extremely intrusive tests, and a general sense of &#39;everyone thinks they&#39;re AuDHD nowadays&#39;, which I pursued largely because a raft of previous diagnoses didn&#39;t really fit, I had a final Dx of definitely 100% no question AuDHD. However, the ongoing public narrative has convinced me that I am a stupid attention-seeking fool. I was offered medication, and despite living my life for nearly 5 decades without it, I thought it might be interesting to try it for focus. It worked but the side effects were unexpected and I immediately thought I was a huge fraud and that this journey I&#39;ve been on has been some kind of incredibly self-serving nonsense, and that I&#39;m stealing resources from people in actual need. Cue a lot of spiralling. I had a meeting today to talk about it, and was fortunate enough to have a consultant who was brilliant - basically called me a dickhead and pointed out the very very long diagnostic process isn&#39;t just guesswork and I didn&#39;t &#39;trick&#39; them into believing I&#39;m something I&#39;m not. Still I&#39;m not convinced. But I realise I&#39;m probably not alone in this. It seems very very cruel to me. The journey I went on was emotionally extremely difficult and stressful. But I&#39;m infinitely grateful to the community on here who have helped me more than I can express. It was me. Quite a few years of AFib and all the things that go with it. Really struggled. Changed my whole lifestyle and indeed life. Then, eventually - after much prevaricating to myself at why I didn&#39;t want the ablation - I eventually had it. Best thing I ever did. Took a few months, but completely sorted it. Did a 12k run Saturday, a 25k walk on Sunday, have an 8k run tonight and am putting my name in the ballot for next year&#39;s London half marathon. Crucially I can now walk up the road to the shops without collapsing - which is nice. I try not to bang the drum too much - it&#39;s boring and negative and I believe in advocating the positives of Fedi rather than going on about everyone on twitter being a piece of shit or whatever. We all know they are. However there are many people on other platforms that I personally don&#39;t agree with, but who aren&#39;t caught up in their brains in the constant culture wars. Some people just want to go on Bluesky or TikTok or whatever and don&#39;t really care about who owns it or why. They just want cats and the funnies. I&#39;m not here to shame those people. However I do get a bit cross about Instagram and Meta generally. In the piece of shit stakes, those companies and the people involved are intrinsically not good. Which is why it is so very frustrating that they are so good at monetising content that people want to engage with. For example a couple I&#39;ve just found out about who spent all of their time and money converting an old school bus into a travelling paradise and now just bum around the world, funding their beautiful lifestyle through clicks and likes. Why. Why must it be that way. I want to follow their journey. Their hydroponic garden and pet jumping spider. I want them to live their glorious lives. But it cannot be separated from the machine that ruins lives and indeed our beautiful planet. It is very unfair. Do you know what the real issue is? Same as ever it&#39;s fuckn capitalism.
