📱✨ New Cordn update: polls for the group, search that finds everything, and you're reachable everywhere ✨📱

Cordn 0.6.0 is out! A release of asking, finding, and never being hard to reach: run a poll in any chat, search people and groups as easily as messages, and let Cordn quietly keep you reachable on every coordinator you use.

📊 Ask the group: polls are here. Press + next to the message box and choose Poll — write a question (paste an image or video link right into it and it shows in the poll card), add two to ten options, decide whether people pick just one or as many as they like, and set an end time from an hour up to a week, or none at all. Results fill in live as votes land — bars, counts, and a details view that shows exactly who picked what. Changed your mind while it's open? Tap a different option: your latest pick is the one that counts, one vote per person. When the deadline passes, the poll marks itself closed and locks.

🔍 Search that finds everything. The search box is no longer just for messages: type a person's name to jump to their profile, a group title to open that chat, or any words from a message — and it digs through the full history, not just what's on screen. Inside an open chat it narrows to just that chat. The share picker got its own search too, with pinned groups staying on top.

📡 Reachable everywhere, automatically. Your key package — the contact card that lets people start a private conversation with you — is now kept published on every coordinator you use, so people there can always invite you. It's on by default (the switch is in Settings → Key packages), and if you're ever shown as unreachable, one tap on "Make me reachable" fixes every coordinator listed — including straight from the share dialog.

🔔 Notifications that keep coming. Many Android phones pause apps in the background to save battery, and that's what made Cordn's notifications stop or arrive late. Cordn now asks just once, at launch, for permission to keep running in the background — "Allow" is all it takes — and if the permission goes missing later, a small reminder appears above your chats with a one-tap fix.

👏 A quieter, calmer chat. Reaction lines now tell you about other people: your own reactions no longer show up as timeline lines (they're still on the message), and one person's burst of reactions collapses into a single line you can open to see each reaction and jump to the message it's about. Writing a multi-line message no longer makes the chat jump around as you type — the view stays put until you send. And long conversations open faster still, with unread counts and mentions staying exact no matter how far back the history goes.

Cordn 0.5.5 is out! A release of expression and quiet speed: say it with a GIF, type and scroll without a stutter even in chats that go back forever, and a notification tap that puts you right where the new messages begin.

😂 Say it with a GIF: press the + next to the message box, choose GIF, and search the gallery — words in any language, or just an emoji like 😂. Tap one and it drops into your message, ready to send alone or with a caption, and plays right in the chat. They follow your media auto-load setting, so GIFs stay behind the "Load media" tap if you prefer it that way. (GIFs come from nostr.build — thank you for the free search API 💜)

🧈 Big chats, zero stutter: typing and scrolling stay smooth no matter how far back a chat goes — the more history behind it, the more you'll feel this one. Opening a long conversation is quicker too, with the app handling its message history far more efficiently behind the scenes. Same messages, same unread counts, just lighter.

🔔 Notifications land on the news: on Android, tapping a notification used to drop you at the very bottom and quietly mark everything read on the way. Now it opens the chat at the first unread message — exactly like opening it from the list.

@️⃣ Mentions that count everywhere: mentioning someone in the caption of a photo, video, or voice note finally works like a mention anywhere else — a proper @name chip that actually pings the person, instead of silently arriving as plain text. The reply and edit previews show @name too, not raw codes.

🎬 Calmer videos: tapping play or pause no longer pops the keyboard over the video, and scrubbing or long-pressing one no longer drags the message around or opens its menu by accident.

🪟 And a handshake: cordn.net group and profile links can now open in Staircase, the independent Android client for Cordn — if you have both installed, Android asks which one to use.

## New Features

### Cordn

- Adds Cordn group chats to the Messages inbox, beside DMs, Marmot and Concord.
Messages never enter the event cache, so they are never searchable.
- Builds the chat on the shared components: bubbles, gestures, reactions,
quoted replies, day and unread dividers, and the rich text renderer.
- Adds replies, reactions, edits, deletions and pins, interoperable with the
reference client. Pins sit in a one-line carousel above the chat.
- Uses the shared composer: @-mentions, emoji shortcodes, GIF keyboard and paste.
- Adds encrypted attachments over Blossom and encrypted voice notes, with the
shared upload dialog and media viewer.
- Keeps drafts, unread counts and messages on disk, so rooms no longer open
empty after a relaunch.
- Redesigns New group as four steps: name, people, coordinator, and who can
add and remove. Shows how many of your people each coordinator can reach.
- Invites the whole roster in one commit, so one failed invite cannot fork the
group. People without a key package get a share link instead.
- Finds coordinators from their ContextVM announcements and names them by
profile, instead of asking for a 64-character key.
- Adds member management: add by name, npub or NIP-05, remove, rename, and admin
mode. Enforces admin rights like the reference client.
- Adds a metadata-exposure card explaining what each coordinator can learn.
- Shares groups as `cordn1…` links and QR codes, and adds an invitations screen

### Geocaching (NIP-CC)

- Renders geocache listings and found logs as cards, with a photo hero, map

- Adds a Geocaches hub (Nearby, Map, Hunts, Finds, Mine), cache details with
their log thread, and composers for caches, hunts and logs.
- Verifies a find by scanning the cache's QR code. The secret signs once and is
never stored.
- Hides hints behind a tap, and detects whether each was written in plaintext
or ROT13.
- Sorts Nearby by distance only when you ask.
- Opens caches and hunts from feeds, notifications, `naddr` links, QR scans and
search.

### QR Codes

- Rebuilds the scanner on CameraX + zxing-cpp, with autofocus, tap-to-focus,
pinch zoom and a torch. The old decoder read 31 of 48 test codes.
- Lets you pick when several codes are in frame or in a picture, and reassembles
multi-part codes.
- Reads codes from the gallery, the clipboard and the share sheet, and adds a
"Scan QR code" launcher shortcut.
- Explains a code it cannot open instead of closing, and keeps private keys off
the result screen and out of the logs.
- Keeps the screen bright while showing your own QR code.

### Concord

- Adds pinned messages, with a pin badge in the channel header and
jump-to-message.

### Key Backup

- Shows the nsec as a numbered, grouped grid you can copy onto paper. It hides
again when the app goes to the background.
- Adds a confirm-then-encrypt flow for the ncryptsec backup.
- Requires passwords of at least 12 characters for new ncryptsecs. Old ones
still open.
- Accepts hand-typed keys at login, with uppercase letters, spaces or dashes.

### Profiles

- Reads NIP-92 `imeta` for profile pictures and banners, trying the declared
fallback URLs when the main one fails.
- Shows the banner's blurhash while it loads.

### Android

- Enables ARM Memory Tagging on supporting devices to catch native memory bugs.

## Performance

- Loads My Fitness progressively instead of behind a 2–3s spinner.
- Cuts the DEX from 31.1 MB to 29.9 MB by dropping kotlin-reflect.
- Confirms a Marmot group change at the first relay that accepts it, so creating
a group no longer waits for the slowest relay.
- Stops the Marmot key-package lookup shortly after the first package arrives, so
adding a member no longer takes most of a minute.
- Stops rewriting the whole Marmot message log and group state on every send.
- Removes a duplicate encryption on every Marmot send.
- Loads cached Blossom images straight from disk, also offline.
- Remembers missing Blossom files for 30s, so videos no longer stall 10s per
retry.
- Makes the audio visualizer smooth: 46 frames a second instead of 5.
- Speeds up the 3D renderer 4x and cuts its GC from 51% of a core to 7.7%.

## Improvements and Bug fixes

- Shows Tor status in the drawer. The icon hides when Tor is off and opens Tor
settings on tap.
- Fixes devices stuck on "Loading account" forever because they reject the
AES/GCM/PKCS7Padding cipher.
- Fixes encrypted stores that could write but not read back.
- Moves settings and account data from SharedPreferences to DataStore, and keys
off the deprecated androidx.security. Old files stay for downgrades.

📌 Pin what matters: press and hold a chat on your phone (or open its "⋮" menu) to pin it to the top of your list. Pinned chats stay above everything else — your pins are yours alone, kept on your device.

🖱 Drop it like you mean it: on the web, drag files straight onto the chat window and they wait in the message box for review — send when you're ready.

🔔 Notifications that behave: a burst of messages in a busy group is now one notification — the newest with a "+N more" hint — instead of a flood. 🎨 Make it yours: Settings now has a whole Appearance section with eight built-in themes, from calm Soft to terminal Matrix, warm paper tones to a deep purple Ostrich. Want your own? Fork any theme and tweak every color and corner radius with a live preview, edit it as JSON and share it around — or hit Roll and let chance pick one for you. Either way it stays readable, guaranteed.

✍ Messages look like you meant them: bold, italic, code, lists and links now render right in chat — what you write is what they read.

📨 Write now, send whenever: messages sent offline wait their turn and go out the moment you reconnect — exactly once. A flaky connection can never deliver the same message twice.

📸 Photos leave no fingerprints: every photo is stripped of its metadata — where it was taken, what took it — before it ever leaves your device. HEIC images also convert to something everyone can open.

🧭 One bottom bar on every screen: Chats, Notifications, Share, Settings — with a "+" right in the middle for new chats. It's on desktop too now. Back arrows go up one level from wherever you are, invitations and join requests wait in the Notifications tab with a quiet red dot, and "Mark all read" clears every badge in one tap.

🏠 Chat home is calmer: a clean list of your conversations, edge to edge, with quick actions tucked into a compact row — and a red dot that tells you when an invitation needs you.

What if the server hosting your private group chats was just… your phone? We just made it possible. Install the Cordn Coordinator app, press Start, and even an old Android phone lying on your desk becomes the heart of your groups. No VPS, no 20-step tutorial, just an APK.

This is sovereignty no other messaging service offers. With Cordn, the entire delivery coordinator runs on a device you own: no company that can shut you down, no server you don't control. If you rely on someone else's infrastructure, you are not sovereign.

It's the same open-source Rust coordinator (cordn-rs), packaged as an Android app:

Sometimes you'd rather talk than type. Now you can: hold the mic button to record a voice note, release to send. Drag up to record hands-free, drag left to cancel. Voice notes play right in the conversation with a seekable waveform and timer, and like everything in Cordn, they're end-to-end encrypted and private.

Already available in Zapstore and obtanium.

That's the headline of 0.3.0, but there's more:

🎨 A full UI/UX refresh across the whole chat app: a calmer chat home with clear tiles for starting a chat, checking notifications, and settings, a simple most-recent-first sidebar, and plain words throughout (Config is now Settings, welcomes are invitations). Pull-to-refresh on the chat list, too.

🔗 Portable group links: the new cordn1 format packs the coordinator and relay hints right into the link, so an invite opens correctly no matter which Cordn client or setup receives it, and pasting one into a chat opens the group in-app.

⚡ Creating a group with several people is much faster: everyone is added in a single batch instead of one invite round per person.

📷 On native Android: take photos and record videos straight from the composer, a back button that behaves like you'd expect, edge-to-edge screens, a keyboard that never covers the composer, and fixes for the crash after a phone restart and when saving backups.

🐛 Under the hood: messages from a linked device no longer fail to decrypt, chat connections recover steadier and quieter, zombie key packages are gone from your settings, and other bug fixes.

📷 On native Android, the in-app camera scanner works again for scanning group and coordinator QR codes, along with saving and sharing files, copying to the clipboard, and opening links externally.
👋 New accounts get a "Join Cordn group" button on chat home, so you can hop straight into the official discussion group. Thanks @laser for the idea
🔄 Inviting people to a new group no longer fails entirely if one key package is unreachable, each invite goes out on its own, and anything that fails surfaces as a toast.
🐛 Reloading a group right after inviting someone no longer drops the invite: pending add-member ops are now saved and reapplied on the next open.
🚚 A new migration banner: if you sign in and your account or key packages seem to live on another device, it links you straight to Backup & recovery to link your devices or restore from a backup.

Every Cordn profile page now has a human-readable address. Instead of a long npub, you can open a profile with a NIP-05 handle, any NIP-05, from any provider, right alongside hex, npub, and nprofile as before.

For cordn.net addresses specifically, the domain is optional: so NIP-05s like besao@cordn.net , your profile link would be simply http://cordn.net/p/besao . A clean handle you can put in a bio or drop in a DM.

🎁 Side note: if you'd like a @cordn.net name of your own, we're handing them out for free during a limited period of time, just ask in the comments and we'll point it at your pubkey.

If you already have your groups on another device or in the web client, the best way to start with the Android client is to go to your previous client > Config > Backup and Restore on your phone so you can keep all your previous messages. You can also link both devices using the multi-device options. If you don’t care about keeping the history of your previous messages, you could simply link the devices via the multi-device feature, and you’ll get all your groups synced. Enjoy!
