Europejara

Europejara is a genus of tapejarid pterosaur, a flying reptile that lived during the Barremian age of the Early Cretaceous epoch in what became modern Spain. The only known specimen was found at the Las Hoyas site of Cuenca, a location noted for its exceptional Konservat-Lagerstätte preservation. In 2012, the new genus and species Europejara olcadesorum was named based on it. The generic name refers to Europe, where it was found, and to the related genus Tapejara from what became the nation of Brazil, while the specific name refers to the Olcades, an ancient people that lived in the region. The holotype specimen consists of an incomplete, crushed skull; the bones of the postorbital region are displaced while the mandible is almost complete.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europejara

      Second Battle of Newtonia

The Second Battle of Newtonia was fought on October 28, 1864, near Newtonia, Missouri, between cavalry commanded by Major General James G. Blunt of the Union Army and Brigadier General Joseph O. Shelby's rear guard of the Confederate Army of Missouri. In September 1864, Confederate Major General Sterling Price had entered the state of Missouri with hopes of sparking a popular uprising against Union control of the state. A defeat at the Battle of Pilot Knob in late September and the strength of Union positions at Jefferson City led Price to abandon the main objectives of the campaign; instead he moved his force west towards Kansas City, where it was badly defeated at the Battle of Westport by Major General Samuel R. Curtis on October 23. Following a set of three defeats on October 25, Price's army halted to rest near Newtonia on October 28.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Battle_of_Newtonia

      Eyebrow Talk

Eyebrow Talk was a Chinese monthly literary magazine published in 18 issues from November 1914 to around April or May 1916. It was among the first literary magazines in China to be marketed towards women and the first to be primarily edited by women. Its founder and editor-in-chief was Gao Jianhua, who worked closely with Xu Xiaotian and a staff of mainly female assistant editors. At least ten different women are confirmed to have written for the magazine, alongside some men who wrote under female pen names. Reaching a claimed circulation of 10,000 by 1915, the magazine was published by the New Learning Society, which mostly published school textbooks.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eyebrow_Talk

      1986–87 Gillingham F.C. season

During the 1986–87 English football season, Gillingham F.C. competed in the Football League Third Division. It was the 55th season in which the club competed in the Football League, and the 37th since the club was voted back into the league in 1950. Gillingham began the season strongly and were top of the Third Division table shortly before the mid-point of the season. The team's form declined in the second half of the season; to qualify for the play-offs for promotion to the Football League Second Division, the team needed to win their final game and both Bristol City and Notts County had to fail to win theirs. A victory over Bolton Wanderers, combined with both the other teams being held to draws, meant that Gillingham finished in fifth place and qualified for the play-offs. After beating Sunderland in the semi-finals, Gillingham faced Swindon Town in the final. The two teams drew 2–2 on aggregate, necessitating a replay at a neutral venue, which Swindon won 2–0 to claim a place in the Second Division.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1986%E2%80%9387_Gillingham_F.C._season

      London Monster

The London Monster was the name given to an attacker of women in London between 1788 and 1790. Renwick Williams, a Welsh maker of artificial flowers, was arrested for the attacks in June 1790, given two trials and sent to Newgate Prison for six years. The Monster's modus operandi was to verbally abuse women with lewd and suggestive comments and then attack them with a knife, cutting the clothing and slicing into buttocks, thighs or chest. Other forms of attack included having knives attached to his knees, possibly attached as a claw-like device to his hands or having a sharp implement hidden in a nosegay—a small flower bouquet. Over fifty women reported attacks, sometimes several on the same day, including up to six reported attacks in one night. Such was the number of attacks, variety of methods and discrepancies in the descriptions of the attackers, that historians are unsure if the Monster was one man or several.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Monster

      Ancient Cappadocian language

The ancient Cappadocian language is an unattested language once spoken in antiquity in Cappadocia, a historical region of central Anatolia in modern-day Turkey. There are no known texts written in Cappadocian, although classical Greek writers identified Cappadocian as distinct from Greek, and a few Greek words were attributed to a Cappadocian origin. The language also influenced the pronunciation of Greek spoken by Cappadocians, whose accent was infamous among classical authors, but there is no evidence for a corresponding influence on Greek grammar or vocabulary.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Cappadocian_language

      The Demi-Virgin

The Demi-Virgin is a three-act play written by Avery Hopwood. Producer Albert H. Woods staged it on Broadway, where it was a hit during the 1921–22 season. The play is a bedroom farce about former couple Gloria Graham and Wally Deane, both movie actors, whose brief marriage causes the press to speculate about whether Gloria is still a virgin. She attempts to seduce Wally when they are forced to reunite for a movie, but after playing along he surprises her by revealing that their divorce is not valid.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Demi-Virgin

      The Hunger (collection)

The Hunger is the seventh collection by British designer Alexander McQueen, released for the Spring/Summer 1996 season of his eponymous fashion house. The collection was primarily inspired by The Hunger, a 1983 erotic horror film about vampires. McQueen had limited financial backing, so the collection was created on a minimal budget. Typically for McQueen in the early stages of his career, the collection centred around sharply tailored garments and emphasised female sexuality. It was his first collection to include menswear.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hunger_(collection)

      Easy on Me

"Easy on Me" is a song by the English singer Adele from her fourth studio album, 30 (2021). Adele wrote the song with its producer, Greg Kurstin. Columbia Records released it as the album's lead single on 15 October 2021. It is a torch song and ballad which places emphasis on Adele's vocals, set over progressively louder-growing piano instrumentation. In its lyrics, she addresses her divorce and pleads for forgiveness and understanding from her son, ex-husband, and herself.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easy_on_Me

      Beauty Revealed

Beauty Revealed is an 1828 self-portrait by the American artist Sarah Goodridge. Depicting only the artist's bared breasts surrounded by white cloth, the 2.6-by-3.1-inch painting, originally backed with paper, is now in a modern frame. Goodridge, aged forty when she completed the watercolor portrait miniature on a piece of ivory, presented the breasts as youthful and individualized. She employed a frontal view that showed only the area from the collarbone to just underneath the breasts, thereby anonymizing the portrait.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beauty_Revealed

      Poecilia vandepolli

Poecilia vandepolli, or Van de Poll's molly, is a poeciliid fish native to the Caribbean islands of Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao. It is one of the most common fish in its range, inhabiting fresh, brackish, salt, and hypersaline waters such as streams, ponds, bays, salt pans, and lagoons. For much of the twentieth century, it was regarded as a subspecies or synonym of P. sphenops, but morphological and genetic studies have confirmed its status as a distinct species. The molly is highly variable in size and color, with males ranging from 2.6 to 5.3 cm and females from 3.2 to 9.6 cm, and coloration varying from grayish-brown to yellow or orange in any given population. Marine fish are generally larger, stronger, and more colorful than freshwater specimens. Males' ability to develop an intense orange coloration may make the species attractive to aquarists.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poecilia_vandepolli

The Man with the Golden Gun (novel)

The Man with the Golden Gun is the twelfth and final novel in Ian Fleming's James Bond series and the thirteenth Bond book overall. It was first published by Jonathan Cape in the United Kingdom on 1 April 1965, eight months after the author's death, and was a best-seller. The novel was not as detailed or polished as the others in the series, leading to poor but polite reviews.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Man_with_the_Golden_Gun_(novel)

      History of cricket to 1725

The earliest definite reference to the sport of cricket is dated 17 January 1597, equating to 27 January 1598 in modern New Style dates. It is a deposition in the records of a legal case at Guildford, Surrey, regarding usage of a parcel of land. John Derrick, a coroner, testified that he had played cricket on the land when he was a boy in about 1550. Derrick's testimony is confirmation that the sport was being played by the middle of the 16th century, but its true origin is unknown. All that is known with a fair degree of certainty is that its beginning was earlier than 1550, probably somewhere in south-east England within the counties of Kent, Sussex, and Surrey. There have been suggestions that it can be traced to Flemish immigrants then resident in the area. The origin of the word cricket could derive from the Flemish word krick(-e), meaning a stick.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_cricket_to_1725

      White-headed fruit dove

The white-headed fruit dove is a species of bird in the pigeon family, Columbidae. It was described by the English ornithologist John Gould in 1856, and the specific name eugeniae honours the French empress Eugénie de Montijo. Adults of the species have white heads, a purplish-red breast patch, a grey shoulder patch, olive-green upperparts, greenish underparts with a blue tinge, and a yellowish vent. Juveniles have green heads with the white restricted to the forehead and upper throat, a much smaller grey shoulder patch, and the red breast patch restricted to the centre of the breast.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White-headed_fruit_dove

      Kaiser-class battleship

The Kaiser class were five dreadnought battleships that were built for the German Kaiserliche Marine in the 1910s: Kaiser, Friedrich der Grosse, Kaiserin, Prinzregent Luitpold, and König Albert. They entered service shortly before World War I, and saw significant combat during the conflict. The Kaiser-class ships introduced several technological improvements to German battleship design, including steam turbines for propulsion and a more efficient superfiring arrangement for some of their main battery guns. They were also faster and more heavily armored than their predecessors of the Nassau and Helgoland classes. Carrying a primary armament of ten 30.5 cm (12 in) guns, they were less heavily armed than their British counterparts.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaiser-class_battleship

      Dam

A dam is a structure that impounds water or restricts its flow. Dams are classified into four basic types: gravity dams are massive structures made of concrete or masonry that rely on their weight to resist the force of impounded water; embankment dams are large earthworks consisting of rocks, clay, sand, soil, or gravel; buttress dams consist of a sloped, concrete face supported on the downstream side by a series of triangular buttresses; and arch dams use a curved concrete wall to transfer the weight of the water to the surrounding valley walls.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dam

      The Long and Winding Road

"The Long and Winding Road" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1970 album Let It Be. A piano ballad, it was composed by Paul McCartney in 1968 as the Beatles were growing increasingly bitter towards each other. When writing it, he "imagined it was going to be done by someone like Ray Charles". Principal recording took place in January 1969 during the Get Back album project and featured a sparse arrangement of piano, bass, guitar, and percussion. However, the Get Back project soon stagnated and no album resulted, and so John Lennon and George Harrison lent the band's January recordings, including that of "The Long and Winding Road", to producer Phil Spector so that he would try assembling an album out of them. He added lavish orchestral and choral overdubs to the song.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Long_and_Winding_Road

      Valley Parade

Valley Parade, currently known as Mbanq Valley Parade for sponsorship reasons, is an all-seater football stadium in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. The stadium was built in 1886 as the home of Manningham Rugby Football Club; it remained so until 1903, when the club changed code from rugby league to association football, and became Bradford City A.F.C. Valley Parade has since been Bradford City's home ground, and is now owned by the pension fund of the club's former chairman Gordon Gibb. The stadium has also hosted Bradford for one season and the rugby-league side Bradford Bulls for two seasons, and has accommodated a number of England youth team fixtures. In 1908, the football architect Archibald Leitch was commissioned to redevelop the ground when Bradford City were promoted to the First Division.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valley_Parade

      Early Netherlandish painting

Early Netherlandish painting is the body of work by artists active in the Burgundian and Habsburg Netherlands during the 15th- and 16th-century Northern Renaissance period, once known as the Flemish Primitives. It flourished especially in the cities of Bruges, Ghent, Mechelen, Leuven, Tournai and Brussels, all in present-day Belgium. The period begins approximately with Robert Campin and Jan van Eyck in the 1420s and lasts at least until the death of Gerard David in 1523, although many scholars extend it to the beginning of the Dutch Revolt in 1566 or 1568 – Max J. Friedländer's acclaimed surveys run through Pieter Bruegel the Elder. Early Netherlandish painting coincides with the Early and High Italian Renaissance, but the early period is seen as an independent artistic evolution, separate from the Renaissance humanism that characterised developments in Italy. Beginning in the 1490s, as increasing numbers of Netherlandish and other Northern painters traveled to Italy, Renaissance ideals and painting styles were incorporated into northern painting. As a result, Early Netherlandish painters are often categorised as belonging to both the Northern Renaissance and the Late or International Gothic.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Early_Netherlandish_painting

      Misti

Misti is a volcano in the southern Peruvian Andes, rising above Arequipa, Peru's second-largest city. It has a steep conical profile and two nested summit craters. The inner crater contains an active lava plug or dome, pierced by vents that emit volcanic gases. The summit reaches 5822 m above sea level, on the rim of the outer crater. Snow covers the summit but does not persist, and there are no glaciers. The upper slopes are largely barren, while lower elevations support scrub and other bushy vegetation.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misti

      Eternal Blue (album)

Eternal Blue is the debut studio album by the Canadian heavy metal band Spiritbox. It was released on September 17, 2021, through the band's label Pale Chord Records in partnership with Rise Records. Vocalist Courtney LaPlante and guitarist Mike Stringer formed Spiritbox in 2016 following their departure from Iwrestledabearonce. After revealing the project and releasing an extended play (EP) in 2017, Spiritbox began development on Eternal Blue in 2018. In the meantime, the band recorded several other singles that were compiled into a second EP in 2019. Their first full-length record was scheduled for an April 2020 release but development and promotion were initially halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eternal_Blue_(album)

Thomas Hardy (Royal Navy officer, died 1732)

Rear-Admiral Sir Thomas Hardy was a British Royal Navy officer and politician. Having joined the navy sometime before 1688, Hardy was supported in his career by George Churchill, whom he served as first lieutenant during the Battle of Barfleur in 1692. Promoted to captain in 1693, Hardy served in the Channel Islands and off the coast of England until 1702, when he was given command of HMS Pembroke off the coast of Spain. He fought at the Battle of Cádiz, and subsequently discovered the location of the Franco-Spanish fleet through the intervention of his chaplain, which resulted in the Battle of Vigo Bay. Hardy was knighted for his services.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Hardy_(Royal_Navy_officer%2C_died_1732)

      United States v. Moore (1973)

United States v. Moore, 486 F.2d 1139, was a case heard by the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in which the court ruled that narcotics addicts are not protected from prosecution for narcotics possession. Police officers investigating a drug trafficking ring found the defendant, Raymond Moore, in a hotel room with heroin capsules in his pocket; he was charged with narcotics possession. Moore claimed at trial and on appeal that his addiction to heroin forced him to possess and use drugs. He argued that because he did not have the free will to keep himself from possessing drugs, he should not be held criminally responsible. At trial, he was convicted and sentenced to six years in prison.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v._Moore_(1973)

      American Airlines Flight 11

American Airlines Flight 11 was a scheduled domestic transcontinental passenger flight from Boston to Los Angeles. On the morning of September 11, 2001, it was hijacked by Mohamed Atta and four other al-Qaeda hijackers, one of four aircraft hijacked as part of the September 11 attacks. Atta deliberately flew the aircraft into the North Tower of the World Trade Center complex in New York City, killing all 92 people aboard, including the five hijackers. The impact destroyed all escape routes from the floors above the impact zone, trapping more than 1,300 occupants on floors 92–110, none of whom survived. People below the impact zone were also killed as a result of the attack.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Airlines_Flight_11

      Agnosticism

Agnosticism is a position that questions the existence of God or the divine. On a psychological level, it is a personal attitude that suspends judgment, withholding both belief and disbelief. In philosophy, agnosticism is often treated as a more general claim stating that God's existence is unknown or unknowable. In the broadest sense, agnosticism is not restricted to theology and can also express skeptical attitudes toward non-religious claims.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agnosticism
