For reasons unknown to me right now, I had a flash of a memory from 30 years ago.

Mom liked to buy all kinds of decorative things, usually the tacky, cheap, frilly kind.
But one day she decided we needed a wall clock that played bird songs on the hour every hour. Except at nights, obviously.

So dad was tasked to set up the clock when it arrived. He followed the instructions and mom proudly displayed the clock on the living room wall.
And we waited for the clock to do its thing.
Once the time was exactly a certain whatever o'clock it was, no sound. Huh. Odd. But mom figured maybe it takes the clock a while to adjust to the setting.
Soon we all forgot about the clock anyway.

That is, until midnight.
That was when the clock decided it's the time to play the cuckoo's cuckoo, twelve times, while we were all already asleep.
I still remember dad scrambling to shut the thing off and then do the exact opposite with the settings that he did originally.
After that the clock played a bird song on the hour every hour during day time. And it got very old very fast. Mom decided to turn the sound off.

But... weren't we gonna be a polycule?

And so we folded and packed Jaws and all the other stuff we'll need on Saturday. Well, almost all of the other stuff, there's still the computer, which will have either Pinball Dreams, Fantasies or Illusions, or Psycho Pinball, for people to try out. We also took the Brio toy pinball for teh lulz 😆 We may need two tables this time...

Jaws is going on another adventure on Saturday. So it needs a little spa day!
The inlanes especially had the telltale ”this game has been played” dirt trail since the last wash. So those and any other areas where the ball goes a specific route over and over, and all of the rubbers that make contact with the ball got washed. Now I’m waiting for the wax to do its thing before I can buff that, so the ball will be even quicker 😁
I also washed the playfield glass, that got some dust on the underside and finger prints on the topside.

They are organising an event to encourage people to talk to each other on campus, specifically to make exchange students and Finns unfamiliar with locals and their new surroundings to feel more welcome. So I was asked if it’s okay to dedicate a table from the restaurant for this and whether I would be open to wear the event’s pin.

Yes and yes!

Because I love being inclusive to everyone. My goal in my work is to be inclusive. My goal is to make every single student, lecturer and random customer to feel welcome and that they can ask me anything.

I think I have been successful with LGBTQIA+ students, based on a few things I’ve noticed especially in the past year.

So yeah, this should be fun!

Täällä tykkään siitä, että voi olla niin privaatti kuin haluaa ja että itse määrää miten laajasti haluaa näkyvyyttä. Melko hyvin pystyy arvioimaan millä hashtagilla voi saada sen haluamansa levikin.
Täällä on myös jotenkin turvallisempi olo sen suhteen, mitä asioita itsestään ja olinpaikastaan jakaa ja kenelle. Olen täältä tavannut kasvokkain lyhyessä ajassa enemmän ihmisiä kuin samassa ajassa missään muualla somessa.

Lähdin Metan katastrofista, koska niissä ei saanut enää päättää minkälaista sisältöä feedissä näen. Suolsi kökköä ihmisiltä ja aiheista, joita en edes seurannut. Tai postauksia, jotka oli tehty viikkoja aiemmin. Ja ne hemmetin mainokset.
Mastodonin löysin kumppanin ansiosta ja täällä oli heti semmoinen ”vanha kunnon entisajan netti” meininki. Ja nyt kun aloin viimein löytämään myös suomenkielistä sisältöä, niin aina parempi!
Minulla sama juttu, tykkään kirjoitella päivityksiä. Nyt kun meidän instanssi salli pidemmät tekstit, niin ei tarvitse aina miettiä, täytyykö kertomusta tiivistää. Yleensä reiluun tuhanteen merkkiin mahtuu ihan sopivasti.

Päivätöiksemme tehdään jotain ihan muuta, mutta omia osaamisalojamme voidaan hyödyntää ja ehdottomasti ollaan hyödynnetty tässä harrastuksessa. Meillä on standardi, johon pyritään että halli pysyy auki.
Ja siihen kuuluu ehdottomasti se, että kaikki meidän pelit ovat loistavassa kunnossa; kentät pestään ja vahataan säännöllisesti, palaneet lamput ja risat kumilenkit vaihdetaan, isot viat korjataan että peli saadaan takaisin riviin, mailakoneistot uusitaan kun tarvitsee, että se hopeinen kuula lähtee sopivalla voimalla matkaan.
Tämä tekninen puoli on puolisoni lempparijuttu tässä harrastuksessa.
Mulle se on sitten ehkä se elämyksen tuottaminen. Tää on vähän sama kuin se, kun töissä mietin että asiakkaat tykkää mun tekemästä ruuasta. Hallilla se on tunnelma.

#introduction update for my second Mastodon anniversary!

I'm a #nonbinary #transmasc #lgbtqia person in my late 30s, I live in #Finland and pretty much toot in English.

I've been with my partner for over 16 years, we run a #pinball arcade together as a hobby. We have two elderly #cats who also get shared on here on the occasion.

I play a lot of #VideoGames, especially #RPGs and post about my progress, usually with pictures or videos.

I enjoy #travel, I've been to 13 different countries so far. I also enjoy meeting people from all around the world.

I do a lot of #crafts especially when the weather is bad. I #knit, #crochet and #CrossStitch

I'm a #chef by profession, I love good #food and great #coffee. I've been working at a student cafe on a uni campus for almost 7 years.

I like #cycling and try to keep some sort of decent condition with it. We have pretty good cycling routes in my home town. Photo evidence is shared on the occasion.

I almost forgot my raspberry! It got a nice drink of water it desperately needed. The snow that melted into the pot kept it going for some time but I should had caught it sooner as some of its new leaves have started to wilt.
But it is one stubborn thing! I bought it as a sad little seedling and it barely made through a few years. Then when it had sprouted only a few branches it started to flower and make berries. We had maybe three years of 8-12 berries. Last year I gave it a change of soil and some fertilizing sticks and it not only grew new branches but huuuuge leaves! Berry count went up to 20-25.
I pulled the branches more together with my makeshift setup of a stick from a cat toy and a shoelace 😂 hey, it worked last year!
A willow had also sprouted into the pot, I had to pull it out.

The local ice hockey team’s lunch restaurants are looking for a lunch chef. While I technically do have a job here until next summer, I’m seriously considering applying. I do love this place, but I have to think about myself and how much I can do by myself and what the highers up are expecting.

I love it when my supervisor tries to logic my complaint of having to do huge catering gigs alone by saying how her location has *only three* employees and heaps more lunch customers than I have here.
Yeah. But you can put one person to only do large catering gigs and leave two people to run lunch and do dishes.
I have to do all three. Alone.
And no, putting the disposable cups and things to the serving spot ahead of time doesn’t make it any quicker to make the coffee and display 60+ pastries.😝
