The longer i think about this article, the more i think of it as a cheap shot. If someone gets better by saying stop to symptoms, visualizing a time before the illness and circling around a piece of paper with symbols printed on it, i may have questions, but ultimately good for them. If it works, it works. Belief and autosuggestion can help in healing. I would be too sceptical for this. But who am i to criticize someone who succeeds like that. Have you read the book? I have and i completely disagree with Gillis, who calls the book an "abuse apologia". When in fact that is the critique Schulman tries to raise in the book. Too often conflict is called abuse, which in the end only will backfire. As i said, the book has many flaws, it is meandering, it pulls strange historical parallels, some of the examples feels gossipy, but what Gillis claims is not one of them.

Wow, that is one looong article. I will try to look into it. What i can say now is that when i read that book, i mostly agreed with its basic premise, yet didn't agree with many of the points it made. It's also not very well written, meandering in style. I read it and wished someone else took up the basic thesis and wrote a helpful book about it.

I have had weird abdominal pains for almost a week now. It can be harmless and i do not have a fever. Yet. But it can also be the start of something serious.

In "normal" times, if only i knew that people would still be masking at the doctor's office, i would not hesitate for one second to go show this to my GP.

But as it stands it turns into an impossible risk assessment. What if it is indeed a harmless constipation, but i get infected with some other bug–because one-way masking is a risk?

As a person with a chronic illness and disability i did not see one sign that i can indeed trust the people who i thought i could count on in a crisis. After maybe a few months very early on in 2020. On the contrary, they behaved like some of the worst ableists imaginable. And laughed me out of the room when i tried to fight for better protections.

After debating back and forth i decided i needed to lodge a complaint with the supermarket chain from whom we ordered the food. I felt ambivalent about it, because i did not want to snitch out a particular delivery person.

On Tuesday, i went to pick up our shopping delivery while wearing a #mask. The delivery person first stared at me in a mocking way, but when he walked away he turned around to shake his head.

On Monday, i felt ill, didn't know if i was coming down with an infection. This time i wore a mask not only to protect myself, but also others, not wanting to spread my bug.
