For a while I wanted "kate but with ability to connect to remote server" but couldn't find anything.

sshfs didn't work, nfs would be janky so I gave up and ended just using vim (which frankly isn't *great* for working on big projects).

Yesterday "gram" came up in a discussion, which seemed slop-free, offered vim keybinds, ability to connect to remote system over ssh and seemed to look/work just like kate (for the most part)... and is exactly what I was looking for.

Having LSP is surprisingly useful (faster than grepping for stuff), and as a bonus the editor has froggo as an icon.

Maybe it'll help someone looking for neovim replacement or something, it's very comf :meowtea:

Okay, just because I see people fearmongering about RCE in EDK2's NetworkPkg:
https://github.com/tianocore/edk2/security/advisories/GHSA-99cj-7hg9-mp4m

1. You are *not* affected if you're:
- Using coreboot with UefiPayloadPkg (EDK2)
- Not using PXE booting built into AMI/Insyde/Phoenix's firmware
- Using iPXE/netboot.xyz for netbooting

2. The only affected systems are servers that use EDK2 PXE module... which I've never seen used in production.

3. If you don't use PXE booting, simply disable the network stack in your firmware's setup menu.

4. It's not exploitable, unless an attacker already compromised another device on your local network. This would generate a lot of traffic, which would be quickly detected and flagged by vast majority of monitoring systems.

So much for "scary 9.5/10 CVE" :akko_shrug:

      Hm, since ATOMBIOS pulled from sysfs already contains DDI links patched by the stock GOP driver, GPU init logic and framebuffer setup should be relatively simple :akko_thonk:

If anything, I suspect the secret AMD is trying to protect so hard by shipping a binary EFI GOP driver is how they're parsing link configuration from firmware tables and patching VBIOS.

Assuming I'm right, we can just extract the ATOMBIOS while running stock firmware and skip a lot of legal worries since Linux can initialise the GPU with patched tables just fine:

```
[   10.788646] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm:create_links [amdgpu]] BIOS object table - number of connectors: 5
[   10.788876] [drm:create_links [amdgpu]] DC: create_links: connectors_num: physical:5, virtual:1
[   10.789099] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm:create_links [amdgpu]] BIOS object table - printing link object info for connector number: 0, link_index: 0
[   10.789283] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm:construct_phy [amdgpu]] BIOS object table - link_id: 20
[   10.789592] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm:construct_phy [amdgpu]] BIOS object table - is_internal_display: 0
[   10.789816] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm:ddc_service_construct [amdgpu]] BIOS object table - i2c_line: 0
[   10.790032] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm:ddc_service_construct [amdgpu]] BIOS object table - i2c_engine_id: 1
[   10.790257] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm:construct_phy [amdgpu]] BIOS object table - hpd_gpio id: 3
[   10.790460] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm:construct_phy [amdgpu]] BIOS object table - hpd_gpio en: 0
[   10.790654] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm:construct_phy [amdgpu]] BIOS object table - DP_IS_USB_C: 0
[   10.790844] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm:construct_phy [amdgpu]] BIOS object table - IS_DP2_CAPABLE: 0
[   10.791025] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm:construct_phy [amdgpu]] BIOS object table - IS_HDMI_FRL_CAPABLE: 0
[   10.791204] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm:construct_phy [amdgpu]] Connector[0] description: signal: Embedded Display Port
[   10.791377] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm:construct_phy [amdgpu]] BIOS object table - device_tag.acpi_device: 0
[   10.791558] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm:construct_phy [amdgpu]] BIOS object table - device_tag.dev_id.device_type: 1
[   10.791727] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm:construct_phy [amdgpu]] BIOS object table - device_tag.dev_id.enum_id: 1
[   10.791891] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm:construct_phy [amdgpu]] BIOS object table - ddi_channel_mapping: 0x00E4
[   10.792060] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm:construct_phy [amdgpu]] BIOS object table - chip_caps: 0
[   10.792221] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm:construct_phy [amdgpu]] BIOS object table - construct_phy finished successfully.
[...]
[   10.804650] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm:create_links [amdgpu]] BIOS object table - end
[   10.804846] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm:construct_dpia [amdgpu]] Connector[0] description:signal 32
[   10.805049] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm:construct_dpia [amdgpu]] Connector[1] description:signal 32
[   10.805236] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm:construct_dpia [amdgpu]] Connector[2] description:signal 32
[   10.805415] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm:construct_dpia [amdgpu]] Connector[3] description:signal 32
[   10.805678] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm:dc_create [amdgpu]] Display Core initialized
[   10.805887] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm] Display Core v3.2.384 initialized on DCN 3.1.4
[   10.805890] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm] DP-HDMI FRL PCON supported
[   10.807846] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm] DMUB hardware initialized: version=0x08005700
[   10.807922] amdgpu 0000:58:00.0: [drm:dce110_edp_power_control [amdgpu]] dce110_edp_power_control: Skipping Panel Power action: On
[   10.969035] audit: type=1400 audit(1793163046.567:2): apparmor="STATUS"
      #netbsd on a Chromebook, because WCGW?
Standard ACPI stuff like CPU temperature reading, battery reporting, ATKBD or screen brightness does work.
However, nothing related to EC work (TigerLake and newer will not boot from USB-C due to Mux introduced in that generation, EC will also enter failsafe mode after few minutes, start ramping the fan up and hard power-off due to no response from nonexistent driver).
Graphical corruption in X11 (which also happens on Linux, this thing has a 4K display and works correctly only in Wayland).
Biggest surprise is that I2C seems broken, so touchpad/touchscreen/stylus probably wouldn't work (although I expect to beissing drivers for those devices as well).
Sound and WiFi of course doesn't work (Chromebooks use SOF, so it's not a standard HDA configuration and adding support for audio DSP would be... quite a lot of work) and WiFi is an Intel AX201 (cnvi), so obviously no luck there.
Probably biggest suprise to me is that NetBSD (seemingly) has zero complains about coreboot's ACPI, the only (mis)reporting of ACPI error is that it had no idea how to parse CrosEC stuff.
I'm positively surprised. Being the one to potentially write missing platform drivers sounds fun, I can implement some stuff I had in mind but maintainers of `platforms/chrome` in Linux absolutely hated :blobcat3c:
I think I'm gonna add NetBSD to my standard testing suite while working on coreboot, not just Linux and Windows.
It has 2x USB-C, headphone jack, mSD slot... that's about it. 4K AMOLED 13.3in screen, i5-10210U, 8GB LPDDR3, 1TB NVME (2230). About the same thiccness as modern smartphones, weights ~1kg, flips into tablet mode for drawing and stuff (at least it would if I wouldn't have dropped it on concrete floor at GPN and messed up the hinge).
Sure, it starts to show it's age (6 years) but I can easily see myself using it for another 2-3 years, for missing ports I just carry a smol dock in my backpack that has HDMI, ethernet and 3x USB-A.
My work laptop is a Framework 16 (1st Gen). Nice screen ratio/refresh rate, proper workstation with (almost) all ports I would ever need (though 16in laptop missing native headphone jack... seriously?). It pretty much needs it's dedicated 240W brick (despite being USB-C), so you *really* feel it in your backpack and using it on a bus (i.e: FlixBus) is pretty much impossible and battery life is pretty bad.
That's why I'm taking my work laptop only if I know I'll have space to use it (trains, office, hotel room, venues etc), otherwise I just grab my personal laptop and ssh (hence why that laptop had travelled trough entire Europe and Japan in the past ~5 years) :akko_shrug:
      I really wonder why people aren't DIYing watercooling blocks. Found only two videos where they go "DON'T DO IT, BAD IDEA"... am I missing something?
You can get really cheap heatsinks that roughly match your CPU's surface (way cheaper than ready-made waterblocks) and design plastic part which feeds water trough that heatsink.
Add some inlet/outlet to attach a gardenhose, print in ABS (temperature resistance), add an o-ring (or just use silicone), insert the heatsink and secure it with screws.
Pull car radiator out of a junkyard and reasonably powerful pump (~20 years ago people were just using aquarium pumps) and boom, watercooling for the price of.. pretty good aircooler these days (~20 EUR). Probably the reason why nobody bothers with liquid cooling in general these days (not to mention maintenance burden) but it's still surprising that nobody even tried to do it :akko_shrug:
Phone is still plenty fast despite being a budget phone from few years ago, but it already lost support in 2025... and after connecting it to WiFi it installed all of that rubbish.
Hot take, but at this point nobody should buy any new Android devices.
https://asdf.donotsta.re/media/37f12573e5994ce43f8cac9dea04905a17cabd340d3fcc57faa24b42a034b802.m4v
Just realised that apparently google-oriole (Pixel 6) is losing support next month... after only 5 years.
CPU in this thing is still really fast (in fact, it's maybe 20% slower than current top-of-the-line and could easily be used as ARM64 buildhost) and feels extremely snappy (doesn't slow-down at all).
Cameras still take great pictures and battery is a bit tired (lasts roughly a day, compared to 3 days when it was new) but I got a replacement from iFixit that's been waiting on the shelf for a year to install.
Could totally see myself using it for another 5 years (despite the fact it's a brick that breaks my wrist) and it's ridiculous that Android vendors want people to replace perfectly good devices after just 5 years... and even more of a reason to mainline/port pmOS to them :blobcat3c:
Strict work/personal separation means we use Signal for event coordination while on the go without (potentially) leaking sensitive information if any of our personal devices would've gotten compromised but that also means I need reliability.
Signal Desktop royally sucks but at least works and since I always have my Chromebook with me, I technically wouldn't need a phone at all :blobcatblep:
