Count the people between you and your money.

We built a tool that does it. Give it a rough split of your net worth (percentages, no balances) and it puts each piece on a ladder by how many counterparties stand in the way.

We ran a made-up saver: home 40%, 401(k) 30%, bank 10%, brokerage 10%, bitcoin on an exchange 10%.

90% of it sits on rung 1. The 401(k) alone has 10 counterparties, from the plan administrator to the clearing house.

Where does yours sit?

Canada’s inflation hit 3.1% in September. The number that’ll get quoted is the other one: 2.2%, “excluding gasoline.”

Gasoline rose 27.8% in a year. Fuel oil rose 57.8%, and StatCan says it hit Atlantic Canada hardest, where more homes heat with it. StatCan ties the oil price to “ongoing uncertainty about the wars in the Middle East.”

Nobody gets to heat their house with the excluding-gasoline index.

Your savings don’t get an “excluding” option either. Keep some of your paycheck in money nobody can print more of.

Every custodian can show you a number on a screen. Worth asking what the number is made of.

In the Bitcoin Well IRA, your dashboard links to the on-chain address where BitGo holds your bitcoin, in an account titled to Heritage IRA for your benefit. Most bitcoiners we talk to save in bitcoin with after-tax dollars. Their most tax-advantaged account, the 401(k) or the IRA, holds none of it.

That's the gap the Bitcoin Well IRA fills. Real bitcoin, not a fund share, in a Traditional or Roth IRA, with the on-chain address in your dashboard. Rollovers from a 401(k) have no annual cap.

Keep your cold storage. This is the retirement slice.

Mark Furmanek of Heritage IRA walks through it live today at 2:00 PM ET. Link in the comments.

Not tax advice.

Yes, we're the self-custody company. And yes, we just launched an IRA where you don't hold the keys.

Here's why. In McNulty v. Commissioner (2021), the US Tax Court held that holding IRA assets yourself at home is treated as a distribution. Keys in your drawer means the tax wrapper is gone.

So the real question is which custody respects the owner most. Ours:

Three separate companies with three jobs: Bitcoin Well, Heritage IRA, and BitGo with your on-chain address in the dashboard, checkable any time. No fee to transfer out, and in-kind distributions to your own wallet are allowed (tax rules apply).

Keep your cold storage. This is the retirement stack that sits next to it.

Not tax advice.

Bank of America just paid $1.21 billion, the third-largest penalty in Treasury’s history, for failing to report more than $5 billion in suspicious transactions. It admits it “willfully” broke the law. It “prioritized its revenues” over compliance. It “knew for years.” It was already under an order to fix this from 2024.

Every few months one of these lands and we call it a scandal. Stop. A thing that keeps producing the same output isn’t malfunctioning. That output is what it’s for.

Banks are for taking your money. Governments are for taking your freedom. Both only work while they can convince you they exist for the opposite, which is why the fine goes to the Treasury and not to a single customer whose account ever got frozen by the same program.

Bitcoin doesn’t need you convinced. Holding your own keys is the only way out.

- Zach

This week a court in London is deciding whose name goes on 61,000 bitcoin, eight years after the police took the keys.

Most of us will never face that version. All of us face the small one: whose name is on your bitcoin, and what happens to it when you’re not here.

That’s Friday’s Lunch and Learn. Mark Furmanek, founder of Heritage IRA, walks through holding bitcoin inside a retirement account: the rules that made it possible, what the Bitcoin Well IRA setup actually looks like, and the four things people skip until it’s too late. Security, custody, fees, beneficiaries.

Friday, October 16, 2:00 PM ET. This is what the Ledger implant looks like from the inside.

A Reddit user opened a Nano X bought on a Russian marketplace, not from Ledger, and found a thin extra board wedged between the screen and the main circuit board, with its own antenna.

Ledger confirmed the mechanism overnight: the board reads the screen, waits for the 24 words to appear during setup, and sends them out over LTE on its own eSIM. The secure chip was never touched. It didn’t need to be.

This is why you always buy straight from the manufacturer. If you are worried and want to check, Ledger’s own guide is in the replies.

(labels in the photo: u/cheerful_afternoon on Reddit.)

52 years ago this week, the Nobel committee gave the economics prize to Friedrich Hayek. Two months later, at the banquet, he told them he would have advised against creating it.

His reason is on the card. The prize "confers on an individual an authority which in economics no man ought to possess," because an economist's real influence isn't over other economists, it's over "politicians, journalists, civil servants and the public generally."

Fifty-two years on, that authority has a building. One chair, twelve votes, and the price of money for 340 million people, set by the kind of credentialed expert the prize taught everyone to defer to.

Bitcoin's answer is Hayek's, written in code: nobody is competent enough to hold that job, so the job doesn't exist. The supply is a number, not an opinion.

He asked for an oath of humility. Satoshi shipped one.

American Express was fined $350,000,000 this week.

Not for moving dirty money. For not watching its customers closely enough. The regulator's own words: a failure to "sufficiently report approximately $13 billion of suspected" activity and "to provide important information to law enforcement."

The fine goes to the Treasury.

That's your bank's job description in one document: watch you, report you, and pay the government when it doesn't.

Bitcoin was built so that holding money didn't require being watched by whoever holds it for you.

Quantum fear is back on the timeline, so here's the calm version.

Use a fresh address for every transaction. You should have been doing that already. It's hygiene, not a shield.

If a computer ever shows up that can break a bitcoin key, a new address isn't what saves you. The upgrade is. And no such computer exists. Europol's cybercrime centre put out a whole report on this yesterday and its conclusion was one line: "Cryptocurrencies will not collapse due to quantum computing."

The accounts telling you to panic this week are selling you panic.

Buy on a schedule. Hold your own keys. Don't reuse addresses. Ignore the countdown.

That strategy was right before the fear and it's right after it.

The U.S. government moved about $470,000,000 of seized bitcoin and stablecoins today. Arkham tracked it to addresses it says are likely Coinbase Prime deposits.

Probably not a sale. Probably just the custodian: since July 2024 the U.S. Marshals Service has had Coinbase under contract to hold and trade the coins it confiscates.

So the honey pot got bigger. Coinbase already held $330,000,000,000 for clients by its own count. The ETFs sit there. Now the government's confiscated stack does too.

Here's the thing nobody at Coinbase will tell you. They don't have any technology you don't. Same keys, same cold storage, same multisig you can set up on a kitchen table.

What they have that you don't is a pot about 10,000,000 times larger.

This morning we posted Dr. Jeff Ross on why bitcoin exists: whoever controls the money controls your purchasing power.

Yesterday the Bank of Russia described what its newly registered custodians do. They "grant clients access to address identifiers where such assets are recorded."

In plain English: the bank holds the coins. You get a login.

The bank is Sberbank, majority-owned by the Russian state and under Western sanctions since 2022. A bitcoin balance there is a claim on Sberbank, and a claim on Sberbank is a claim on the state.

Every custodial balance is a claim on someone. Most people never look up who.

The whitepaper's first sentence was about money that moves without going through a financial institution. Russia's first regulated step was to put one back.

Canada's financial intelligence agency is the one your bank and your exchange report to.

Over the last five years, it wiped the supplier names off 100 of its own contracts, worth more than $26.7 million. On Friday, authorities cut the internet around a protest site in New Delhi for 12 hours.

By Saturday, Bitchat, the messaging app that works without the internet, was gone from the App Store and Google Play in India.

India had already told GitHub why it wanted the app gone. Its design made it hard for police to intercept messages or trace users. And it kept working during internet shutdowns.

That's not a charge sheet. Bitcoin has a birth certificate, and it's a bailout.

Eighteen years ago today, on October 3, 2008, Public Law 110-343 gave the Treasury Secretary authority to buy up to $700 billion of troubled assets from banks, "on such terms and conditions as are determined by the Secretary."

That's the clause. Not Congress. Not you. The Secretary.

The House had voted it down four days earlier. It passed anyway, and your taxes stood behind it.

28 days later, Satoshi published the white paper. 92 days later, block 0 locked a newspaper headline into the chain forever: "Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks."

The rescues never really stopped. They just stopped making headlines.

Bitcoin is the money whose terms no Secretary gets to determine.

A new NBER paper found that when World Bank aid lands, new bitcoin wallets light up. Two to six cents of every aid dollar.

The crowd's conclusion: bitcoin is how they steal aid.

Except the World Bank's own researchers found the same pattern back in 2020, in offshore bank accounts in places like Zurich. Around 7.5% of aid to the most aid-dependent countries.

The thieves didn't change. The vault did. And this vault keeps a public receipt.

The line nobody's quoting is from the paper itself: "Capture carries no funding penalty." The sectors where they caught it still got half of the next round of World Bank money.

The leak isn't the scandal. The refill is.

Judy Shelton, a longtime sound-money economist, just joined the Treasury as Counselor to the Secretary.

Her big idea, from a column last October: a U.S. Treasury bond you can convert to gold when it matures. Not the whole national debt backed by gold. One bond that pays in metal, so the dollar finally has a benchmark nobody can inflate away.

It's a good instinct. It's also been tried.

During World War I, the Treasury sold Liberty Bonds that promised repayment in gold coin. In April 1933, Americans were ordered to turn in their gold. That June, Congress voided every gold clause in the country, including the ones on its own bonds. The next year, gold was repriced from $20.67 to $35.

Then in 1971, the dollar's last link to gold was suspended. "Temporarily."

Now why would we trust the government to keep any of these promises?

Well, we shouldn't. Which is why we just keep stacking bitcoin.

Tuesday the Senate voted 49 to 50 on the rules for the companies that hold people's coins. The bill stalled. By Thursday the CFTC had reportedly sent its own rulebook to the White House for review.

In Washington a no vote doesn't stop the rules. It changes who writes them.

Bitcoin's rules were published in 2008 and have never needed a vote, a chairman or a review. At 11:20 this morning the Governor of the Bank of Canada speaks in Halifax. On September 16 the Bank wrote that Canadians "can continue to count on price stability."

Five days earlier the Bank's own researchers published a table. In a shock-prone world like the one they say we're in, the odds that core inflation runs above 3% more than triple, from 1.1% to 3.7%, and it stays there five quarters instead of three.

The promise and the probability were published by the same building, a week apart.

Your dollar doesn't get to count on the promise.

On August 15, 1971, a Sunday night, the President of the United States went on television and told you what your money was going to be from now on.

"I have directed Secretary Connally to suspend temporarily the convertibility of the dollar into gold."

Then, to the people watching: "your dollar will be worth just as much tomorrow as it is today."

Temporarily has lasted 55 years and one month. Nobody voted on it. Gold was $35 an ounce that night. Bitcoin was 38 years away.

Since that speech the dollar has lost roughly 88 cents of every dollar of purchasing power. The people who wrote the speech called that "laying to rest the bugaboo of what is called devaluation." That sentence is in the transcript too.

Every fiat currency you can hold has a sentence like this somewhere in its past: a night when a man in an office decided what it was, and a promise that you wouldn't notice. Bitcoin's supply schedule has no office, no man, and no night. It has a number, and you can check it yourself.

Julian Assange is back on twitter... I mean X. Here's the part of his story that belongs to anyone holding bitcoin.

December 2010. WikiLeaks had just published a quarter of a million U.S. diplomatic cables, and Washington was furious. So the money got cut off. Not by a judge. By the payment companies. Over the next two weeks PayPal, MasterCard, Visa and Bank of America each announced they would no longer process donations to WikiLeaks. No charge had been filed against the publisher. No court had ordered anything. A senator made some phone calls, the companies pointed at their terms of service, and a publisher's income disappeared in 14 days.

Someone on a forum suggested WikiLeaks take bitcoin instead. Bitcoin's creator said no. On December 11, 2010, Satoshi Nakamoto wrote: "WikiLeaks has kicked the hornet's nest, and the swarm is headed towards us." Within days he stopped posting in public. He never came back.

WikiLeaks started taking bitcoin in 2011 anyway. In 2017 @JulianAssange thanked the U.S. government for the blockade: it had "caused us to invest in Bitcoin -- with > 50000% return."

The swarm came. The network is still here. The companies that flipped the switch on a publisher can flip it on you, and they don't need a judge to do it. The one payment rail that never had a switch is the one Satoshi was afraid to test.

Even nation states can't use the gold they supposedly own.

Venezuela 'owns' 31 tonnes of gold. For almost eight years it couldn't have it.

The gold sat in the Bank of England while London's courts decided who the owner was. Today the FT reports it's moving to the New York Fed. Under the deal, Venezuela still can't sell it. It can borrow against it.

A country with an army, a central bank and a seat at the UN needed two governments' permission to touch its own gold, and got a loan instead.

Bitcoin collapses ownership and possession into one thing. Whoever holds the key has the coins, and there's no appeal.

Warren Buffett stepped down as Berkshire chairman this morning. I'll be honest: I barely know the man. I know he called Bitcoin "rat poison squared" in 2018, and that was about it.

Give him his due. Sixty-one years, one company, and a letter today about "owners who thought in decades rather than quarters." That's a nod to low time preference and he's right about that. He played the game in front of him better than anyone alive.

But look at the game. Cheap credit, a Fed backstop, a dollar that shrank for everyone holding it and rewarded everyone holding assets. He didn't build that. He was very good at living inside it.

Bitcoin was written to fix the thing his fortune sat on. Of course it looked like poison to him because it would turn the mechanism that made him his fortune on its head.

Respect for the player, but we're here to end the game.

- Zach

"Carrying unlimited risk for limited revenue is no longer a rational choice."

That's the founder of CoinEx, closing his exchange after nine years, with reserves above 100% and withdrawals open until December 22. It's the good version of an exchange shutting down.

Holding other people's coins is unlimited liability. Every hack, every fake government request, every regulator in every country lands on the company holding the keys. He did the math and left.

The same math applies from your side of the counter. If the risk of holding your bitcoin is too much for the exchange, it was always too much for you to leave there.

Both sides of the Clarity Act fight agree on one thing: your money should stay with somebody else.

The banks spent August asking senators to close the stablecoin "yield loophole." The exchanges wanted rewards left alone. Sunday night the bill's sponsors split it with a switch. From their own summary: if the Treasury Secretary makes "a written determination that deposit flight is occurring from community banks on a substantial scale," the Secretary "is directed to promulgate rules restricting stablecoin rewards." For the first 18 months of the law, people leaving their bank is an event Washington slows down.

Credit where it's due: the same text keeps software developers, miners and validators out of money-transmitter law. Real win.

Now read the fight again. One side wants your dollars in a bank. The other wants them in a stablecoin, an IOU from a company holding Treasuries. Either way somebody else holds it, and somebody in Washington can reach it. Nobody in the room argued for your right to leave.

There's one exit that needs no vote and no written finding.

On September 8 Ottawa put a 50% tax on American cheese, appliances and clothing coming into Canada.

By that night Washington had answered. From September 29, Canadian whisky, wine, beer, whey and motorcycles may not enter the United States at all. Not taxed. Refused. The legal authority is a section of a 1930 tariff law that had never been used.

The Prime Minister says the goal is "ensuring that no country can hold us hostage."

Right goal. It applies to people too. Your dollar now buys what two governments allow, at prices two governments set, and the list changed twice in one day.

There is one thing on the shelf that neither capital gets a vote on. It crosses the border in your head.

The Federal Reserve wrote down a target for how fast your dollar should lose value. The date on the page is January 25, 2012.

Before that there was no number. The law told the Fed to pursue "stable prices" and for decades nobody wrote down what that meant. Then, on a Wednesday afternoon, a committee decided stable meant "inflation at the rate of 2 percent," published it, and promised to reaffirm it every January.

Two percent a year halves your money in about 35 years. That is the plan when everything goes right.

Since that page went up, the dollar has lost about a third of its purchasing power. The target was 2. The result has been closer to 3 than 2. The same committee meets again on Wednesday to set the rate for the year ahead, and nobody outside the room gets a vote.

A target for losing value is still a policy of losing value. It just has a number on it now.

Bitcoin's issuance schedule was also written down, in 2008. It has been hit every year since, and nobody has ever had to meet.

On Wednesday a committee at the Federal Reserve will vote on the price of your money. Markets put the odds of a hike near 80%.

On Thursday a developer on a Bitcoin fork floated pausing that chain's new coin issuance for a month, to push back on miners he says are there only for the fees. A month of new coins, held back by decision.

And it isn't surprising. The BIP-110 coin exists because its developers changed Bitcoin's rules once to create it. When the chain stalled in August, they changed the rules again to get it moving. A third change to discipline the miners follows logically from the first two, and there will be a fourth. The moment a money's rules bend for one good reason, it has a process for bending, and every future reason will find that process. That is the entire history of the dollar: not one bad decision, but a precedent, then a committee, then a calendar of meetings.

Which is why Bitcoin has the best defence ever built against people who need to be in charge of the money.

It lets them. Anyone who wants to bend the rules can take their ball and go home. Copy the code, change what you like, go play with your friends. Bitcoin doesn't stop you and it doesn't follow you. It stays exactly where it was, running the same rules it ran in 2009, for everyone who didn't leave.

The dollar has no exit like that. Its control freaks stay in the building.

The people who most want to change Bitcoin end up holding something else.

In 1992 the U.S. State Department told a Berkeley math student that his encryption code was a weapon.

Not a figure of speech. A letter, dated August 20, 1992, from the Office of Defense Trade Controls: Daniel Bernstein's algorithm was "designated as a defense article under U.S. Munitions List Category XIII(b)(1)." The same list as bombs. Using it at home was legal. Posting it where a foreigner could read it was arms trafficking, and the State Department told him not to bother applying for a licence, because the code was too secure to approve.

He sued in 1995. In April 1996 a federal judge ruled that source code is speech. In 1999 the appeals court agreed, and the export rules came down.

Every bitcoin key you hold is protected by the class of math that Washington classified as a munition within living memory. It didn't become legal to share because the government changed its mind. It became legal because one graduate student refused to register as an arms dealer.

The next time someone tells you self-custody is paranoid, remember that the official position, not long ago, was that the tools for it should not be allowed to leave the country.

Canada's bank regulator, yesterday: "Tokenized deposits are, for example, not legally distinct from traditional deposits."

Correct. A deposit is money the bank owes you. Put that IOU on a blockchain and it is still the same IOU controlled by a third party. It just gains the buzzword "blockchain" for marketing purposes.

Bitcoin at an address you control is the one thing on the list that nobody owes you because you truly own it yourself.

Two headlines from the last 24 hours.

- Washington is talking about mailing every adult $5,000.

- U.S. Bank tested a dollar it can freeze and claw back.

Money that can be promised from a stage and pulled back by a bank is the money your retirement account is denominated in. Every fund in it. Every bond.

This fall the Bitcoin Well IRA lets Americans hold real bitcoin inside a Traditional or Roth IRA. Not a fund that holds a company that holds bitcoin. Actual coins, at an address you can check on-chain, any day you feel like checking.

Three companies, one job each. We source the bitcoin. Heritage IRA administers the account. BitGo holds the coins in qualified custody.

If a $5,000 check ever lands, you'll already know where the money nobody can print more of lives.

Waitlist in the comments.

      "I am the house now."

That was the US Treasury Secretary yesterday, daring traders to bet against the yen. In 1992 Scott Bessent was 29 years old and helped George Soros break the Bank of England for $1,000,000,000. He knows exactly what he is saying.

Here is what the house has been doing. The yen fell to 164 per dollar in July, its weakest in nearly four decades. Japan spent the equivalent of $98,600,000,000 in four weeks buying it back, the largest intervention on record, with the US Treasury joining in for the first time since 1998. To pay for it, Japan sold $87,800,000,000 of foreign bonds in August, and Japan's foreign bonds are mostly US Treasuries. Japan is America's largest foreign lender.

So America helped Japan sell America's debt to prop up Japan's money, then doubled its own bond buybacks to undo what that selling did to America's borrowing costs.

Every fiat currency is backed by another fiat promise. The yen by Treasuries, Treasuries by the dollar, the dollar by Japan agreeing to keep holding Treasuries. Pull one and the rest have to move.

The house always wins because the house writes the rules and can rewrite them mid-hand. Until the day everyone at the table notices the emperor has no clothes.

Bitcoin is the one table with no house. The rules are the rules, and nobody, not even a Treasury Secretary, sits on the other side of them.

Two weeks ago the price of bitcoin was beyond boring.

VanEck's mid-August numbers, published August 18, showed realized volatility at 27.2% against a long-run average near 80%.

Spot volume in the 10th percentile of its entire history. Eight of twelve capitulation signals firing. Long-term holders had just sold 356,000 coins into the weakness.

Then August 19. Treasury scales up its bond buybacks. $2.99 billion of positions get liquidated, $2.6 billion of them short. And in that same window spot ETFs take in $2.88 billion, which is 88% of the week's flow, per CoinMarketCap.

$63,549 on August 11. $81,235 on August 25.

When almost nothing is for sale, every dollar of buying has to climb further up the order book to find a seller. A thin market does not absorb demand. It reprices against it. That is why $2.88 billion took this one up 28% in two weeks.

Treasury liquidity policy. Forced buying from liquidated shorts. Voluntary spot demand through the ETFs. Three separate engines, and not one of them needed the other two to fire.

That is the part that's new. For most of bitcoin's history these showed up one at a time, with months in between for the market to digest each one.

And the amount available keeps shrinking. The mortgages Coinbase and Better switched on this morning lock $250,000 of pledged coins against a $100,000 down payment until the loan is repaid. Every one of those written is supply leaving the market for years.

More weeks are going to look like this one, and sharper than anything before the ETFs existed.

$2.6 billion of leverage got closed by somebody else last Wednesday. The best way to enjoy price action like we saw last week is with coins you hold in your own wallet.

The Treasury just committed the United States to building the best Bitcoin onboarding infrastructure anybody has ever funded. I don't think they know that yet.

Look at what these rails actually are. Wallets. Keys. Settlement on a public ledger. A generation getting comfortable with money that lives in an app instead of a branch, and a real share of them learning what a seed phrase is, because that is how you hold the thing yourself.

None of that is dollar infrastructure. It is self-custody infrastructure that happens to be carrying dollars first.

And it teaches the lesson incompletely, which is the interesting part. A stablecoin has an issuer. Eventually somebody gets frozen, or a court order lands, or the reserves have a bad quarter, and the question arrives on its own. Who is on the other side of this, and can they tell me no?

One answer survives that question.

So, sincerely, thank you Secretary Bessent. Teach the world to hold its own keys and we will take it from there.

Inflation "cooled" to 3.4%, they say. The target was never zero.

The Fed aims to devalue your money about 2% every year on purpose. That is not stability, it is a slow melt you are not supposed to notice. And it compounds: by their own index, the dollar has lost more than 22% of its purchasing power since 2020. What cost $100 then costs about $129 now. Their math, not mine.

That is the flattering version. Inflation was never the price of eggs going up. It is the supply of money going up, and the shelf price is just the symptom. Between 2020 and 2022 the money supply grew 41%, from $15.4 trillion to $21.8 trillion. More than $6 trillion conjured in about two years.

You can massage a basket of goods. You cannot un-print $6 trillion.

Bitcoin's supply grows less than 1% a year, toward zero, set by no committee and no election. One of these two moneys can be diluted while you sleep. It's not the one without a printer.

No sales pitch. No jargon wall.

"This is why you should just leave it on an exchange."

Every time self-custody has a bad day, the custodial crowd shows up to tell you the fix is handing your coins to a company. They said it this week about the Coldcard flaw. They're missing the forest for the trees.

Here's the question that ends it. What if you had moved your Coldcard stack onto FTX the week before it collapsed?

You'd have "solved" a firmware bug by handing everything to Sam Bankman-Fried. A risk you can inspect and patch, traded for one you never see coming until the withdrawals freeze for good.

Funny thing. The company at the center of this week's story is the same one that told you, during the FTX collapse, to get your bitcoin off exchanges. They were right then. They're still right.

The answer to a self-custody problem was never to give up self-custody. It's to make yours better. Verify your entropy. Roll your own dice. Spread the keys across vendors with multisig. Remove the risk you can find, and keep control of the rest.

Sovereignty isn't believing nothing breaks. It's being the one who can fix it when it does.

You can print a dollar. You cannot print a kilowatt.

Every Bitcoin that exists is backed by real energy already spent. Work that actually happened. Electricity that was actually burned to secure the network. You can't fake it, fast-talk it, or vote more of it into existence.

That's the quiet reason Bitcoin is different from every currency before it. Fiat is created by decree. Bitcoin is created by proof. One costs a keystroke. The other costs the one thing no government can conjure from thin air: real work in the physical world.

Sound money was always money that cost something to make.

Two days ago the Senate voted 89 to 10 to ban a government digital dollar. Today the Treasury proposed forcing every stablecoin company to file your ID with the federal government

This is the first GENIUS Act rule out of FinCEN, and it does the exact job the CBDC was supposed to do. A "Permitted Payment Stablecoin Issuer Customer Identification Program" drops Circle and Tether under the Bank Secrecy Act and orders them to verify, log, and report who holds the digital dollar. No central bank coin required. The surveillance just arrives wearing a private logo.

The dollar going digital was never the threat (its already mostly digital). The dollar becoming a permission slip was. Whether the form says Federal Reserve or USDC at the top changes nothing about who can freeze your balance or watch where it moves.

There is one digital money that cannot run a customer identification program, because no company stands between you and it. You hold the keys. There is no issuer to subpoena, no account to flag, no balance anyone can switch off.

Not your keys, not your coins was never a slogan. It is the only opt-out the rulebook forgot to close.

That’s after years of elevated inflation that’s already baked into prices, and it still exceeds the Bank of England’s 2% target by a wide margin.

Let’s not forget, inflation compounds. A 3.6% rate might sound mild, but over a decade, that’s a 43% erosion in value.
