I remember when Mastodon was the initial landing point for people trying to leave Xitter shortly after the buyout. The reception from many existing Masto users was *not good* to non-technical users and especially Blacks and women. European-flavored white techbro culture.

Amazon has way more business interests, though. AWS is used by a LOT of giant corps, they have a lot of streaming media, and I guess they're trying to get into healthcare (dear god no, please fail that first). Whereas Sears was only a retail goods chain. So long as corporations are invested in AWS, Amazon will never die...
