I was first in family to go to university. Coming from a working class background I never thought I would be a university lecturer. I feel much more at home in a post 92 than a Russell group university, as more of the staff and students have a similar background.

The students said if AI did it then how do they show what they have learned and get feedback to improve. Another student said GenAI is terrible anyway so there's no guarantee it will get it right. One said that if she puts the effort in then it would be unfair for other students to short cut with AI and get away with it. They seemed quite aware of problems and pitfalls if using AI. Had a discussion with students this week about technology in education. We discussed when technology is useful and when it is harmful. I also asked if new technology is always better. We talked about critical digital literacy and social construction of technology. I asked what the purpose of assessment was. Answers included; to see what we know, to show how well we understand the topic, to demonstrate what we have learned. I asked if it was ok to get AI to do it. They said no... 1/
