When we were driving around in north east Victoria yesterday we noticed a lot of cutout orange cockies attached to trees & farm gates, even some large orange hearts in some places. Driving around Wodonga today & I’ve seen similar, not just on houses but cars as well.
This is just one small part of #HelenHaines area, goes to show how much she is liked & respected up here #AusPol.

Good morning tooters. It is going to be another warm, sunny & beautiful day & I’m planning to go for a swim at some stage this morning. It does need to be a bit warmer than what it is right now though, so probably a little after 9am.
This attack on Helen Haines has affected me a bit & I will probably be a little quiet on here today, waiting to hear what the police have to say. Helen Haines is a part of my region, during her campaigns you can see her signature orange cockatoos appearing in gardens & on farm gates all around the region. She is very popular, well liked & appreciated up here in the north east. So while I am really hoping that she recovers well, I do fear it will be a very long road ahead for her.

Good morning everyone, another fabulous sunshiny day has started, the mornings are still nice, cool & dewy but things are definitely warming up, it will be close to 30c by the end of the week. Pulled out some summer pjs as I’ll need them for the rest of this week. It’s that time of year when I never know what I should be wearing each day.
I’m helping my daughter this morning. She has decided she wants to do some planting in a few pots and a barrel. She actually put some pigface succulents in them last week & Josie their doofus Rottweiler ate them 🤣. Now she’s starting again & I’m taking down some plastic mesh to build some sort of cage barrier to deter her. Might work, might not - the dog ate a small apple tree last year 🤭.
I’ve also baked a loaf of bread 🥖 this morning, first time in months. I’m quite pleased & it looks yummy. I’ll also be taking that to my daughters as well so we can have some for lunch with butter & tomato, yummy.

Good morning tooters. It is a beautiful day outside with a fairly chilly morning & I even slept past the dawn, not common for me. I’ve been looking at the jobs I did outside yesterday & deciding what to tackle today. I still haven’t made my fruit fly baits up because I think it may already be too late as yesterday I noticed that the little peach tree already has baby fruit on it. Still I’ve decided I will do it this morning anyway just in case & also because it will help with other things that are planned for the garden. Apart from that there aren’t many more jobs that need doing before I’m content & can focus on the future plans of summer veg planting & some more shade trees & pots for shrubs & flowers. So still busy days ahead, just not completely full on - maintenance really.
There are really only two things in my garden I am not really happy with & one is the lime tree & the other the orange tree, they both have a couple of fruit on them after a year, which is good, but something has been eating the leaves & I can’t see anything on them. Sprayed white oil, but will have to remove the damaged bits which will make the little trees look even worse, but needs must & time will tell if they’ll survive - or not!
Planning an exercise class as I need to get back to it & rather than yoga today I’m picking a Les Mills Thrive class, active exercise & great for this aging body 😁.

Good morning Fedi friends, it is going to be a beautiful sunny day today & I am heading out to Barnawartha to visit my son & family & to attend the netball family fun day with them at the request of my youngest granddaughter.
Unfortunately I was up & down a bit last night with an upset gut. I’m very rigorous with hand washing especially when I’m doing a #PetSit & litter trays are involved. Don’t know if it was dealing with that, or my defrosted leftover butter chicken, the remains of which I’ve binned. Not so bad this morning, but it was dry toast with a smear of Vegemite for brekky. I also will not be indulging in the sausage sizzle at the fun day. In fact it will be a very bland blah food day sadly 😔!

I’ve just heard that a friend passed away last night. It wasn’t unexpected as she’s had some immense health issues over the last 8yrs starting after major road accident. She’s had daily pain ever since & gradually started losing her mobility. Then after a fall it was discovered she had developed bone cancer & needed treatment for that but the prognosis wasn’t good.
She has had such a rough journey & found it incredibly hard to deal with sometimes & it would come out in anger & rejecting all who were around her. No one deserved what she went through.
Now after a week in palliative care she’s gone. I’m sad, but glad she’s not suffering anymore.
So everyone, live your life as best you can, make the most of what you have - none of us know what’s around the corner.

I’ve had a very full morning. I went up to my place to drop a few things off & water my indoor plants, the neighbours rubbish had blown all over my front lawn & porch & he’d just left it there, so I put it all on his front porch for him 🙃. My Dogwood is in full bloom & new growth has definitely started, looks very pretty. Then I went down to have my haircut & I’m happy with it. The weather started to feel very warm & the rain seemed to have cleared so I came back to my sit, changed my clothes, grabbed my swim gear & off I went to do some laps before lunch. Now I’m blobbed out in the couch, feeling kind of weary & a lot cooler than earlier. #Exercise #Garden #Dogwood.

Oh that’s awful.
Mine didn’t take that long to make & I was shown how to take them in & out properly which I was never comfortable with doing anyway. Still within two weeks the wire attachments had chipped two teeth down near the gum line & that was it for me.
I’d rather lose all my teeth & have a complete false set than partials. My missing ones are back & sides which is my saving grace, but it’s constant effort to try to keep them as is.

Oh boy what a day. I’m in my pjs & have poured a well deserved wine!
First granddaughter arrived & by 9.30am we were off to Barnawartha to pick up the other two, then headed back into town & to the sculpture walk which they all loved especially the huge amount of turtles on floating logs in the wetlands. By the time we’d walk all around there it was lunchtime & we went to a food hall where we had plenty of choices. Everyone chose Asian take away except for my youngest granddaughter who wanted kfc.
After lunch we went to a lovely local play park that is pretty extensive & they raced around for well over an hour. After which we drove back over the border for ice cream & some quieter time before it was time to take them home.
It was then that what had been a fabulous if tiring day went a little pear shaped. We have our ice cream, the youngest two having another bit of a play before we headed back to my car only to see a flat tyre 🙁. Happy to say that the RACV only took 20 minutes, during which time I rang my daughter in law & arranged to meet her at her sons place here in town as soon as the puncture was sorted, which turned out to be a screw in the tyre 😏. Sent a msg to my daughter to ask her to pick up her child from my sit house as it turns out the spare tyre has a bit of a ridge in it & shouldn’t be driven far.
Not the best end to what had been a wonderful day though & tomorrow - guess what I’m doing 🛞 & I’m now very tired 🥱.

Good morning tooters. It was dark when I got up & after the last couple of lovely sunny Spring days & an extremely mild night I thought I’d strip the bed at my #HouseSit & wash it all. It’s light now, it’s overcast & there’s rain around 🤦🏼‍♀️. In the scheme of things & if I was home I’d be using another set of sheets from the linen cupboard but the homeowners only use bottom sheets here which I knew & brought my own top sheet with me. So I can put a fresh bottom sheet on & go without the top sheet for a day or two or I can take the wet washing to my daughters house & put in the drier & that’s the option I’ve chosen. It’ll be a lovely catch up & chat with my daughter who tells me she has finished all the modules for her Diploma in Early Childhood Education. She always struggled academically at school & had no confidence in her capabilities, but I always knew she had it in her to achieve & she’s now proved it to herself as well & it shows. #ProudMum here.

I’m home after a lovely walk around the river, just 5km but that’s enough for now. Very cold out as it was still only 7c when I left, I ended up nice & warm by the end though.

On our local news tonight there was a piece about school children making 18,000 plus paper cranes, partly to break a record & partly to do with peace. I wonder how many of these children would know of or even understand the story of Sadako Sasaki.
I read this book when I was preteen, my Dad gave it to me & I’m glad he did. It had a huge effect in the way I thought about a lot of things. I forgot about it for years, I don’t think I wouldn’t hurt for children to read it now. I don’t think it would hurt for anyone to read it now. #Books #1000Cranes #SadakoSasaki #NuclearBomb

Good morning tooters. Around 9c when I woke up this morning & it will be the same daily temp of 16c as it’s been for the last two days. Still very grey & overcast with more rain to come this afternoon. I was very glad when that storm finished late last night & I was able to have a last check of the back yard to reassure myself all was good & no water came in under the back garage door. I don’t even think the rain was as fierce nor as fast as those other rain events I’ve had. It did mean I was able to get to go to bed & sleep unstressed. It always feels worse when it’s dark.
I had a lovely few hours out in Albury yesterday with my friend, we had coffee at the Myer centre & then went for a wander, window & op shopping. I didn’t buy anything at all except except the coffee. It was just so good to be outside doing something & the rain held off until we got home. I also dropped off half a dozen books to a street library & took 2 out for myself. I love street libraries. The pictures were taken down a laneway towards the Myer complex.
I have to pack to head to Chiltern this morning but don’t plan to get there until around lunchtime. It’s just for 4 nights & I will take a couple of my frozen meals & soup with me. That way I don’t need to do much cooking.

Good morning tooters. Another mild night & 12c on waking up. I didn’t hear any rain overnight, but that doesn’t mean anything. As soon as I got up though it started pouring & was quite heavy for a while. It’s going to get to 16c again today & I haven’t really needed the heater on. There is storms & heavy rain forecast for the day - oh goody 🫤.
I am heading out this morning though. A friend has been looking after her daughter after she broke her ankle & needed surgery. She’s a bit over it all so we’re going out for coffee ☕️ & her husband can take over, he helps anyway, but there are things a Dad can’t really do comfortably for an adult daughter. That will more than likely be all I do today. A walk would be nice but as I’m off to Chiltern for 4 nights from tomorrow house/pet sitting, I’ll get plenty of walks with the dogs.
Things are definitely slow at home when I’m videoing worms crossing my back porch for fun 😂.

Good morning tooters. It was a fairly mild night of 8c but today will only reach 14c with rain forecast for most of the day. Although looking at the radar it’s going around us at the moment. The sky isn’t even very dull either, just a bit overcast. So while up to 25mm is forecast, I’m not sure how much we’ll get. If the rain hangs off for a while I’ll get a little weeding done. Much easier at this time of year with the ground being softer.
Not too much on the agenda today either. I won’t be seeing my daughter as usual, she’s been asked to work today, but she has asked if I’ll go & do a job for her that will get me out of the house for a little while at least. First up this morning though I want to do a Balance class, I need to get back to some more formal regular exercise while I can. I’ll do that after my shower.

All my garden jobs are done & it looks great. I could have done a bit more pruning of the feijoa, but I don’t think it would have looked as good & I’ve realised my secateurs are cactus. I also did my usual hatchet job with the whipper snipper, but it looks ok I guess 😬. Tidy from a distance 😂.
I think I’m going to get some sleepers & put them just a couple of inches out & along the back fence, maybe plant something like fish fern (or something) that might help stabilise the soil & stop flooding when we get heavy rain - thinking, thinking………

This is horrific & a real wake up call. So sad.
I was in London in 2018 & the days were just 30-31c & for me it was manageable. As someone who knows how to deal with the heat in Australia & know we have places & facilities that are cool - it was bloody hot over there. No air conditioning, it’s all built to deal with cold. Britain & France & many other places in the EU just aren’t geared up for this.

Good morning tooters. It was definitely a chilly start today, just under 4c when I got up & it dropped a little further. No frost, but very heavy dew. Already stripped my bed & washed the sheets & brrr it is quite fresh out there. The sun is out though & it will be a lovely 16c today. If this continues into tomorrow as is forecast I’ll be mowing, this milder weather has kept them growing albeit a little slower.
Had a phone call from Adelaide yesterday evening, my younger sister who was over here a few weeks ago is in hospital & has been there for the last week. Apparently her blood platelets dropped to alarming levels & she’s also been bleeding for quite some time & not dealt with it. She’s 69, so it shouldn’t be happening. They haven’t found a cause yet, still doing tests but have her on steroids & meds & slowly the platelet levels are improving, still a way to go though. I have to say it’s a bit worrying for us all. Sometimes you feel so far away.
For me, my day will be relatively quiet. I need a few things at the supermarket & the chemist. I also want to get some potting mix & some greens to plant, Silverbeet & Kale is what I fancy, but I’ll see what’s on offer. The soup I made the other day is more a veg stew than anything & that will be my dinner plus 5 meals in the freezer.

Well I certainly did have a problem with my lower back & I was told I may need another tune up in a couple of weeks as it may return. He doesn’t often say that to me, he also gave me some simple exercises that could help & some lovely smelling bath salts, which is a kind of trade mark thing for him. He adds essential oil to them & you go home & have a bath which also helps relax muscles. He’s a naturopath as well as a massage therapist.
So I’ve had my bath & am in my pjs all cosy, clean & smelling lovely because I used tiger balm on the sore spot as well 😁. #Health #Massage #BackIssues

Good morning tooters. It was 8c when I got up in the dark & by the time it got light it had dropped down to a little under 7c 🤷🏼‍♀️. That was when I noticed feijoas on the ground again, I thought they’d finished as I haven’t had any drops for a couple of days. Just 2 medium sized & 3 small. I gave the tree a little shake but no more fell, maybe that’s it then! It was chilly outside & you could see my breath in the air. Today it’s going to get to 13c, so bearable, but not warm. Hopefully we’ll get some sun 🌞 this afternoon.
My back feels quite a bit better this morning, but I’m still aware of it & know I move a little more tentatively as I don’t want to trigger it. Looking forward to the remedial massage this afternoon. This means another slack day not doing much & I’m avoiding all usual exercise for now, which doesn’t make me happy. Just a wise thing to do for the moment. I keep forgetting I have a Vibit as well that I could use when these things happen & I’m going to make sure it’s regularly charged up from now on.
So I’m going to be chopping veg & will make soup today, I’ve got some broth out of the freezer & have it sitting in a large pot ready to be added to.

Good morning tooters. Super dooper sleep last night, all cosy & snug. Nearly 13c when I woke at around 6.30am & it will again reach 17c with just a slight chance of rain.
My daughter did end up coming out with me, we just didn’t have lunch out. Still we got all our jobs done & had some good chat. I found out they weren’t just getting more solar panels. There is also a battery installed now. I’m so rapt for them as with two youngsters the power bills were quite high. This will make a huge difference for them. A little jealous if I’m honest. I did offer to move in, but she just laughed at me 😂😬.
I’m off out again today as well, making the most of family visits. My niece & her husband are picking me up in a little while & we’re going to Beechworth for lunch. This is something they like to do when they come over from Perth & they always take me out at least once while here, which is lovely.

Good morning tooters. It is not a cold morning, nor was it a cold night & was nearly 13c when I got up & will reach 17c today. Lots of rain overnight & sounding quite heavy at times. More rain is forecast during today as well.
I’m still going to Yarrawonga today but the person who was going with me has changed. The friend who was coming rang to say she’s unwell, slept badly & didn’t feel she could cope with the drive which a shame as we were both looking for a day out & to catching up. Anyway I’m sitting here with my coffee & trying to decide what I should do with my day instead & another friend rang. I told her what had happened & she said that if I wanted to still go she’d come with me. Took me round about 10 seconds to say yes 😄. So a slight pivot but still a day out. Also means I need to get moving shortly. Should be a good day out despite the rain.

Good morning tooters. Not as cold as forecast last night & it was almost 5c when I got up. It’s supposed to get to 14c, so not exactly warm but not exactly very cold either - unless there’s wind, then it’ll be cold 😝.
I didn’t have a very restful nor long sleep last night, tossing & turning. Feeling hot, arms out, feeling cold, arms in - repeat.
Today I’m off on a road trip with my younger sister & niece. We will be out most of the day, I’m taking them all the way up to a little beyond Wandiligong to an orchard up there. They have lovely apples which my older sister has asked me to get for her, but they also have a little gift shop with produce & items from around the area which I know my younger sister will like. I’ll also grab some apples for myself & my own family. Then drive back & have a stop off in Bright, followed by Myrtleford where we will probably have lunch & explore the town including Red Ramia. After that we will head back down & turn off to travel through Stanley & Beechworth. Many places of interest to stop & visit so it should be a good day. I’m looking forward to it.

Good morning tooters. We have sunshine & its beautiful even if it’s only 6c & so far a clear blue sky as well. Only getting to 14c but that’s fine if there’s some sun around.m
Not too much in the plans for today, a yin yoga class to tune up my back a bit as it’s feeling a little tight. A massage would be better, but that will have to wait.
I’ll be going down to visit both my sisters 👯‍♀️ for an hour or so & I have half a dozen books for my older sister as well. The 3 of us girls haven’t all been together in many years - could be interesting, should be fun as we all have definite views on different things. I might need to bite my tongue a little 😂. Then a little shopping on the way home & reheating & reducing those stewed feijoas a little more before they go into jars. That will be my day & it’s enough.

Good morning tooters. I’m still in my dressing gown 😬 - it is Saturday morning though. It was supposed to get down to 3c last night & it was fairly chilly when I got up with quite a lot of fog around which made everything seem very eerie, I loved it. The sun is out now though & the sky is clear blue. Today it’s going to reach a lovely 18c so some garden work of some sort may ensue.
I’ve done two loads of washing this morning & hung it out. Warmer bulkier clothing worn this week takes up much more room in the washing machine.
I’ve decided to go & visit my sister today after considering that tomorrow being Mother’s Day she & I will no doubt have family visits. I have 4 new books for her to read, swapped for her old books in the street libraries. She is very sedentary now & reads her books very quickly.
Not much else planned today except a little housework. I’ve taken some soup out of the freezer for my dinner that I may bulk up so it can be used over two days, a decision for later.

Good morning tooting friends. It’s a pretty dreary grey old day out there, but a warmish night of 11c, it was supposed to be less but 🤷🏼‍♀️. It’s only getting to 17c today with a slight chance of rain, not much in it though.
I was barely online yesterday, I had an issue with those damned awful, wrong facing eyelashes on Sunday night & had been rubbing my eye. I must have done something to one of them because I started to feel pain in the eye, the eyelash was stabbing my eye which caused it to constantly water & I could only relieve it by holding the lower lid down. So I went to bed. I tried ringing my optometrist as soon as they opened but the calls weren’t going through. So I took myself down to the nearest shopping centre & Specsavers who took me straight in & in less than a minute, relief! Add some eye drops to soothe & I’m back to normal.
Then I spent most of the rest of the day with my daughter, helping her buy little bits & pieces for her work. Having lunch together & talking, I had a lovely time & thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the day.

When I was at the greengrocers I saw they had the jujube fruit for sale & I watched a program about them sometime ago & was interested. Not cheap to buy so I only chose 4 & took them with me for the cuppa with my friends & gave them one each to try. They are ok, apparently sweeter dried whichever is a bit the same as most fruit, but I quite liked them. Kind of like an apple but with a pear texture & they have one stone inside. I’m going to try to grow them. Even though I’m always the optimist I don’t really hold out a lot of hope, but you never know & I have been reading up on how to try. I now have 3 stones sitting on a paper towel drying on the window ledge & the last whole fruit I will eat after my dinner & that will give me 4 seeds of opportunity 😁. #JuJube #Fruit

Good morning tooters. A little warmer again last night at 8c & once more heading up to 25c. Lovely sky just after dawn, full of small clouds which has all but disappeared now that it’s warming up.
Planning a stretch yoga class this morning as my hips & lower back are a little achy after the walk yesterday, or more like from walking up hills 😁. First up though I have two loads of washing to hang out. I’m only going to spend a little time outside today. Pull out the last tomato plant as it’s not doing anything now & tidy up some overgrown succulents down the side of the unit. I think the birds have discovered my lemon guavas, I don’t mind sharing but not that much 🙃.

It’s lunch time & I’ve had a good & busy morning. I did my yoga class except I didn’t like the one I picked so pivoted to another which was much better, it just took me longer. Then I decided that before I headed into the garden I’d change the sheets on the bed - only because my routine is out of whack after being away two weekends in a row & I couldn’t remember the last time I changed them. After the bed was stripped though & as I knew it needed doing I turned the mattress which also involved taking off the electric blanket & shaking up the topper. Everything is all back to normal & bed remade.
Then I went into the garden for about an hour - until my back started complaining anyway. Back inside & I’ve prepared a chook for slow roasting, garlic & butter under the skin, into the roaster with a little leftover passata for moisture & a whole heap of veg to cook along with the chook. There’ll be some yummy flavours in it all.
Now to make a bit of lunch while the oven cooks my dinner. I might go back outside again later, still more to do out there but my back will decide that. If not, I’m happy with what I’ve done. #Home #Garden #Cooking

Good evening pocket friends. I’m back in Chiltern for the weekend while the homeowners are in Sydney to be with their son, who is in the navy, for Anzac Day. So just two nights this time, home on Sunday. I brought down a few items to a friend who also lives here & we decided to go into the village for lunch. No free tables & we shared with another lady of a similar age to us & we struck up a conversation, as you do.
This woman & my friend seems to have similar ideas about some things which is fine, but as the conversation carried on I started feeling increasingly uncomfortable about things they were saying & went quiet, staying out of it. When we left my friend mentioned that I’d gone quiet - I may have blown up the friendship (another one 😏)but I replied that I hated casual but obvious racism & left it at that. She did apologise & I hope I’ve made her think. I’ve now been stewing on it all afternoon.

Jobs all done for the day including the mowing. I’ve also discovered something about my new whipper snipper. I’m not the best at that job, I never seem to get it quite right. Today I’m halfway through doing it & start wondering what the button on top of the whipper snipper is for. I press it & the angle of it changes, so I tried it out. I whipper snipped so much better - I have awesome edges now - almost 😂🤣. After all these years 😬. I’ve also watered my garden & filled the birdbath as it hasn’t rained in a while. The birds were quick to jump into the birdbath & have a bit of a splash too. #Garden

Good morning Fedi friends. Not quite as cold this morning but still chilly at 3c & it going to be a lovely sunny 22c here in Chiltern though . 23c & sunny at home in Wodonga & where I’m heading in a couple of hours. I’m only home until Friday when I’m back here again for the weekend.
At the moment I’m finishing breakfast & about to shower & then take these little dogs for a walk before I pack up, clean up & head home.
I’ll be dropping into the greengrocers before I reach home. I’ve decided it is definitely home made soup weather now & want soup making veg. Then when I get home I can get the stock & broth out of my freezer & make chicken soup. Some will go in the freezer, some I’ll eat tonight maybe - or tomorrow for sure.
It’s going to be nice to be back home & sleeping in my own bed again even if it’s only until Friday 😁.

All settled into the house sit, dogs cat & chickens are good. I’ve fed myself & am in pjs because it was quite a busy day & a lot of fun.
Picked up two granddaughters on the way to Chiltern & took them to a 50’s themed cafe down here for lunch. Miss 7 had her first ever waffles with strawberries, cream & ice cream & all she kept saying was “mmm they’re so good Grandma” over & over. Topped it up with a strawberry spider, Miss 14 had a baked potato with coleslaw & garlic butter & a Portello spider. Simple quiche & coffee for me 😂. Then we came to my house sit & the plan was to take both dogs for a walk, but the older one didn’t want to come so it was just little bouncy Ozy. Miss 7 was a bit nervous of him, but just 10 mins later we had this 😁👇🏼& so it continued for the next hour 🤣. She loves him now.

I expected the price to have gone up especially as it’s been 4yrs since the last update, but even with the discount it was still just over $800 😳. Plus I needed some more eye drops - I’m glad the govt pay for all the testing!
Then off to the supermarket for a few small things for my 4 nights house sitting & now I’m home for the afternoon.
I had thought I might mow this afternoon, but I have decided to leave that job for tomorrow.
