I took this picture at virgin active gym where Kauai brand coffee shop franchise is located. What sort of an orwellian, 1984 logic is that?? Manipulating the consumer into believing he's actually doing some big eco hero act by opting out of ...straw plus cover? Wth, the pink gunk itself and its container are rubbish enough. and it's NOT about easy life. I heard that statement from a very 'hardy' woman who lived there for many yrs, and who is originally from Mexico. But they ARE coping and cooperating with their surrounding society. And it definitely not a hostile relationship. I think the other locals admire their guts and perseverance. They wish they could do the same, because they see the strength of that little community, the comeradeship and efficiency. Maybe also they envy them.

yes, it's very true. But they are trying, and that's why one should really visit such places or even try to join the communities. The one I mentioned is run quite effectively: they grow their own wheat, make their flour. They have a vineyard and make the wine, also olive groves - they make their own oil. All this produce is used by them but also gets sold - to local retailers. So the link to the surrounding hierarchies is there.

So even if a minority already provides an example how a decentralized society could work, there is hardly anyone who is willing to follow in their footsteps. A major scale top-down revolution is also unlikely. I think the change we all want will only come as a result of a future major event like e.g.another pandemic or another disaster and our necessity to adapt.

There are some small semi independent anarchist communities, e.g in the south of Italy there is #Urupia, but those who lived there a long time, say that it's a 'very difficult life'. Most people want an easy and comfortable life.
