In whats i'm sure not be a shock to anyone, but the #fediverse is basically useless in an emergency. There was *some* slightly useful info. But the fact that search is garbage and no one has a coherent way to use hash tags makes it pretty pointless if you are trying to coordinate on a hyper-local level with normal, non tech obsessed people. its fine for other stuff, but certainly not useful when things are really chaotic and time sensitive.

bluesky is garbage too, but it did have a few useful things out there and the search was at least usable even if it was mostly just idiots spreading misinfo.

shockingly instagram seemed to provide the most useful, actionable info for me over the past several days. that and traditional media like TV.

now that the media has entered the "blame game" phase its looking like print media will be the most reliable source of info moving forward.

From the salt-users mailing list:

"No, the old infrastructure will disappear at the end of the month. This is something that is being mandated by Broadcom. We were only able to work out the details of what is happening and options available to us this week as it is affecting all of VMware, not just Saltstack.

Sorry for the late notice. We are doing the best we can to handle the pain points. Unfortunately, there will be many changes related to this. Things won't be as pretty as they were before."

RIP developers, I'm not sure how #salt and #saltstack survive this, my team is already starting work to rewrite all of our config mgmt code to use #ansible.

I even did a presentation there once. I think they quickly realized we weren’t “on brand” enough for them.

Shortly after Tekserv (and old NYC Mac store) hosted us. There was so much hope that apple was going to fully embrace Unix and BSD in a public way - or failing that in a major financial way. Never really came to pass, but it was fun regardless.
