From a strange little newsletter that I read from time to time called "North Carolina Rabbit Hole," written by a journalist Jeremy Markovich.

"There is one North Carolina Prince story that stands above the rest. In 1984, during his Purple Rain tour, his tour bus was rolling east down Interstate 40 on the way to
Greensboro for a three-night set of concerts at the coliseum. The production was huge. It required ten tractor trailers worth of stuff, including an air cannon designed to shoot 15,000 carnations and chrysanthemums into a crowd that dutifully wore purple and black.

At some point, Prince decided he needed something. Something important enough to veer off the road for an unexpected pit stop. Someone on the bus called ahead. Did they
have it? Yes, he was told. And so an hour later, that is how Prince made a surprise stop at a pet store, rolling in wearing a full length fur coat, no shirt, white pants, and purple knee boots."

[from newspaper clipping]
'It Can’t Be,’ Store Owner Thought

Prince Drops In For Poodle
By TONY KISS
Staff Writer

Prince, the rock singer and star of the film “Purple Rain," made a brief unannounced stop in Asheville Wednesday morning.

The singer walked into the Pet Luv pet store at Asheville Mall about 11:30 a.m., according to manager Kay Grant.

"I had a call about an hour earlier (from an unidentified man) who asked if I had any toy poodles," Grant said. I told him I did, and he asked for directions to the store.

“Then about 11:30 am, a man walked in and asked if I had toy poodles. I told him yes, and he went out and came back a few minutes later with Prince, his ladyfriend, and another bodyguard."

The singer never identified himself, Grant said. “But it was obvious who he was. He was dressed in a long full-length fur coat, no shirt, white leather pants and purple knee boots.

“He said he was in a hurry, that he had to play a concert tonight in Greensboro, and that he wanted me to speed things up as much as possible."

The singer looked at some of the poodles on display in the store, but didn't like them, Grant said. “So I showed him some poodles that I had in the back, and he liked a little black toy poodle.”

Prince, who was in “a very good mood," purchased the animal and some other items, she said.

When the singer walked into the store, Grant said she was the only one there.

“At first, I thought, this can't be. This can’t be happening in my life," she said.

“A few minutes after he left, a number of people came Into the store looking for him. I told him their bus was still parked out in the parking lot. “He stayed for about 45 minutes signing autographs.”

Prince paid for the poodle and other items with a Mastercard, and signed the receipt as Prince Nelson (the singer's real name), Grant said.

“I'm going to frame that receipt and put it on the wall,” Grant said. “He's the first celebrity I've had in my shop."

The Asheville Citizen from Nov. 15, 1984.

2026-09-21T03:57:30Z https://nostr.now/nevent1qqstul4zaxdzl9u8urejjn5jrnqmjya6xsfcat639ksfq6zc7d8dwsszyrfn548sehcg6tukp8t7wad6t5dfng8x9yj78m445r528xucd5yjqlgpj3n It just occurred to me that the songs I thought of first, which were all three about American events, were written by Canadians.
Woodstock - Joni Mitchell
Ohio - Neil Young
The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down - Robbie Robertson

Woodstock - Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=4lx86B6a3kc

#History
#JukeboxFridayNight 2026-09-11T06:20:42Z https://nostr.now/nevent1qqs9wmn8snkw7rr9cp0ra9x2s84a3x3nnnyrdsr0nment2yr4qkt85gzyrfn548sehcg6tukp8t7wad6t5dfng8x9yj78m445r528xucd5yjqtxy3vc In reply to nevent1q…vtzc
_________________________

Beautiful blues. Carole played a new song she had just written: "You've Got a Friend." JT said he heard it and thought it was so great he literally ran for his guitar to learn/ play it.

So then, when he was back in the recording studio, they had recorded a few covers, and he said to the others, "Let's do this song of Carole's." They recorded it, and then he went to tell CK that he wanted to include it on his album -- before she had even released it herself. She (generously) said, that's great.

And then she told him that what had prompted her to write the song was listening to his song "Fire and Rain." When she heard the line "I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend," she thought, I'm going to tell him that he's got a friend... and she wrote the song.

"You've Got a Friend" won them each a Grammy: JT for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male and CK for Song of the Year.

#JamesTaylor #CaroleKing #Songwriting #SingerSongwriters 2026-03-26T14:35:14Z https://nostr.now/nevent1qqsvgq0afszq7s78x4n9892jf7nrlvytyqrp2kfqs3agrc99ec9memgzyrfn548sehcg6tukp8t7wad6t5dfng8x9yj78m445r528xucd5yjqpmqzwx In reply to nevent1q…8t77
_________________________

I hadn't seen your post when I, of course, posted The Clash. :) 2026-01-24T02:52:04Z https://nostr.now/nevent1qqstxpxplsg4gcvd7r7x5ndr6ssu93f8jlhca5sufvhfpp4dhu5k7sszyrfn548sehcg6tukp8t7wad6t5dfng8x9yj78m445r528xucd5yjq05j8jl The #FortnightFridayMusic word is #Indecision

Did You Ever Have to Make up Your Mind? / The Lovin' Spoonful

Sometimes you really dig a girl the moment you kiss her
And then you get distracted by her older sister
When in walks her father and takes you in line
And says, "Better go home, son, and make up your mind"

https://song.link/2rx708r0kntj0 2026-01-23T19:02:02Z https://nostr.now/nevent1qqsgpjk30xknhpwnrudmzh5h4r0xfcrv26h4mnx5wmqfrmpqpmlxa4czyrfn548sehcg6tukp8t7wad6t5dfng8x9yj78m445r528xucd5yjqcse9zf The #FortnightFridayMusic word is #Indecision

Should I Stay or Should I Go / The Clash
https://song.link/7wvbtwjjb9fdt 2026-01-23T18:56:51Z https://nostr.now/nevent1qqs8h2paq8ayxq023cupqrym37mdm73r7upywsmqk3kyle8r5lps4kszyrfn548sehcg6tukp8t7wad6t5dfng8x9yj78m445r528xucd5yjqx7vyrv In reply to nevent1q…3gm8
_________________________

What a nice photo!
