Does your show provide enough value to warrant larger zaps?
In other words: Are you putting out high enough quality content that's worthy of receiving any value in return?

Maybe you are, maybe you aren't. 🤷‍♂️

It is normal in the v4v space to go through ups and downs. The cold reality is that less than 4% ever return value.

Example:

https://op3.dev/show/ebebbf711998472b86b9114fe3aba3d3

During the month of May 2026
Lightning Thrashes had 481 unique listeners
23 of those listeners actually boosted into the show (4.7%)

A total of 77,146 sats (not my cut the majority goes to the artists)

Even Adam Curry and John C Dvorak get frustrated at times with the amount of support they get for the No Agenda podcast but they persevere.

I used to get super upset about this until I just learned that I needed to do a better job.

This episode is where I really expressed my frustration about it.

It's only 6:04 long

https://v4vmusic.com/s/75

Are you taking advantage of the full podcasting 2.0 RSS ecosystem (streaming sats, autoboosts, podping, keysend, TLV records, Helipad, etc) ?

Are you following the tenants of v4v? https://value4value.info/

Do you thank people and read their support messages (boostagrams / zaps) on air (closing the loop)

Also for some reason nostr folks think that 21 is a high number. I don't know why this is but it is a nostr reality.

RSS folks think 33,333 is a high number but 1111, 2222, 3333 are normal amounts to send IDK why this is. It just is.

Anyway, this is not me calling you out on anything or even criticizing, just giving you my perspective and a few questions to ask yourselves.

I wish you all the success in your show and I hope it gets better for you.

P.S.

I can quote those numbers to you because I run my own node and because of keysend, tlv records and Helipad.

Yes there's a ridiculously complex tag filtering system in v4v music.

I came up with the magic playlist idea on a whim, not a lot of work has been put into it so I hope it's working well for you 🤞

You can even filter out feeds by hosts (There is one host that has a lot of shitty ai music)

I don't censor, it all about filtering (like nostr), well I do censor things that claim to be music but clearly not music. I tag them as spam. If you want you can uncheck the spam filter to see them.

As far as your splits failing. Many things can cause splits to fail some in my control some not.

I suspect that minibits does not support keysend (shame on minibits 🙂)

While my app does support lnAddress, it's primarily focused on keysend delivery (nearly rock solid with keysend)

For more of my keysend vs lnAddress rants, listen to the latest episode of The v4v Roundtable https://v4vmusic.com/?song=cmpsrccoq02qsod0ig2m594oa (towards the end)

https://v4vmusic.com is still a work in progress and has many bugs

If you notice anything irritating, stupid or you would like a feature please let me know via the Telegram group I set up specifically for this https://t.me/+EqGy6oQUnVAwZWQx

Thank you for looking into supporting keysend.

According to my db at v4vmusic.com approx 95.5% of the music feeds support keysend only.

This will open up a vast opportunity for your wallet users to support their favorite artists.

NWC seems to be the way to go. It's been working great for me using albyhub as a proxy to my node.

If you can ever get the receiving part of keysend that would be great also. Alby has code for it in it's repo (somewhere)

Basically you use a customKey and customValue
The payments go to one node. The customKey and customValue tell you the node runner which "account" the payment belongs to.

I haven't tried it yet but I believe this is also how lnbits does it.

Receiving is a harder problem, so getting sending to work first makes the most sense.

Again, Thank You For Your Courage! 🙂

Lack of wallet adoption is critical, if anything "kills" keysend it will be this.

I don't have an lnAddress in my feeds because I prefer keysend payments and there's no way for me to signal that in my feed. Your wallet seems to pay lnAddresses without doing keysend lookups first. 🙁

> "In terms of artist's running their own nodes - I get the appeal of keysend but the reality is the majority of artists I speak to will never do this - they need wallets that are easy to onboard to and easy to use - and all the new wallets coming out that provide this ux and easy onboarding do not support keysend. majority of artists I speak to will never do this"

The majority of people in 1999 would NEVER buy anything online using a credit card either. lol

Yes I agree that many people are intimidated about running their own nodes. But many of these artists were also intimidated re: using DAWs (which are much harder setup and use) and now look how many artists record, mix and master their own music.

Most of the artists are not dumb and they all have at least one tech friendly friend.

Ease of setting up and running your own node has never been easier thanks to StartOS and Albyhub, both are free.

In our little group if IRC miscreants we have onboarded many artists to self host andto run their own nodes. We have opened many a channel to the nervous musicians daring to tip their toes into the valueverse.

>"Out of interest - how do you approach the conversation with new artists? ""

I first try to convince them to run their own node, if that fails, then unfortunately I tell them to get a Fountain wallet as you provide the only easy to use keysend enabled wallet.

I say unfortunately not because I don't like Fountain but because if they want to use v4vmusic, podcastguru, podverse, et al. They cannot with a Fountain wallet. They are semi stuck into the one way Fountain ecosystem.

In a perfect world all wallet providers would be like you, supporting keysend and lnAddress / lnurlp but they would also support full NWC so listeners can listen and boost wherever they want.

IMO the main thing your wallet service lacks (aside from above) is a version of "Helipad" with CSV exporting of all the transactions.

Helipad is badass please rip-off it's ideas https://github.com/Podcastindex-org/helipad

It even ripped off your idea and now supports your "RSS Payment Metadata" proposal 🙂

I have asked may times to people in this space who are much smarter than me "What is the real technical reason to not incorporate keysend into a wallet"

I have yet to receive an answer other than "no one else is doing it" which is not a technical reason, it's a cop out.

The only reason I can come up with is "payments aren't guaranteed." This is a big deal when buying a house or a car, but not so much when sending 1000 sats for your favorite song

IDK, I'm a weirdo. I see the world differently than most. Maybe that's why I'm so broke 🙂

If "keysend is dead" are you going to alienate all those 95.5% of feeds that only have keysend in them?
Granted most of those are WL feeds and I'm sure WL could update their wallet infrastructure to support lnAddress/lnurlp.

I would strongly encourage you to not deprecate keysend as it is still the only sovereign way for 2 nodes to communicate to one another in a true peer to peer fashion. (remember the white paper?)

lnurl is awesome but it relies on dns and is censorable, not to mention it is not at all battery friendly due to all the calls it needs to make.

Then there's the message limit issue which you've addressed with https://github.com/Podcastindex-org/podcast-namespace/blob/main/docs/examples/value/metadata.md

Which I did implement in v4vmusic, but it is a workaround to the limitations of lnurlp

It relies yet again on another 3rd party. The artist's boostagrams are now hosted on several severs all over the world.

With keysend they all get sent to the artist's own node or the node of their custodial wallet.

I'm not trying to be negative but our band-aids are not bringing the ecosystem together in any way that respects the original sovereign nature that was created from the beginning. keysend++

IMO I would like to see more wallets supporting keysend. Their backend nodes do it just needs to be implemented on the user side.

You did it with Fountain primal, rizful, coinos etc can do it also.

I love lnAddress for looking up keysend info. I believe this to be the way to go until we come up with a better peer to peer solution.

Sorry for the long note 🙂

Sadly I don't think there are any wallets that support keysend without email address.
Albyhub and Fountain are the only ones I know that currently work.

I believe you can self host a lightning node without an alby account but I'm not 100% sure also most people are afraid to run their own nodes (for some reason 🙁)

From what I understand coinos will allow sending but not receiving. I'm trying to get in contact with them to see if they can implement it.

It would be super cool to have more wallets support the only non censorable, truly peer to peer protocol that does not rely on 3rd parties such as DNS and supplies rich metadata to the receiver through TLV records. (see: https://github.com/Podcastindex-org/podcast-namespace/blob/main/docs/examples/value/value.md#tlv-records-and-extensions)

Primal would be an excellent candidate for keysend support.

That "someone" are the users of the app.

The carousels on the home page are listener driven. Read their titles, they're self explanatory.

Most Favorited songs/albums/playlists are surprisingly, the most favorited songs/albums/playlists by the listeners.
Similarly the top rated songs are the songs that are top rated by the listeners.

These are all listener driven. The idea is that as more users with differing tastes rate and favorite things then those carousels will have more interesting and better (hopefully) vontent.

User curated playlists are another way that this surfaces. You may notice that some users have a knack for picking great songs to listen to and may want to listen to their playlists. astro_penguin (npub1fxx…lknl) is an excellent example of this.

https://v4vmusic.com/?playlist=cmhj039830gcood0i0tkuw6n1

IDK what a "nostr and contextual web-of-trust" even means or how nostr even comes in to play here.

Just because one can jam nostr into something, doesn't mean one should.

I just know that when people favorite like a playlist such as Astro_Penguin's then it comes into my view.

I listen to his playlist, I like it so I favorite it. Now it's saved under my favorites for me to listen to again.
