There’s a good reason why I choose to never attend blindness conventions, or assimilate myself with a lot of the blindness groups here in the US. I prefer hanging around a smaller contingency of blind people rather than the larger groups. Aside from the fact that the blind community is often extremely racist towards disabled people of color, trans phobic and homophobic to the disabled LGBT plus members, ableist to other disability groups, the community as a whole participates in techno ableism. The community chides others for choosing to not willingly participate in capitalism any longer. The community values independence rather than interdependence. I do not see eye to eye on many of the single disability issues the community at large advocates for, especially as it relates to employment and accessibility access at the risk of my and others privacy. The community is too focused on getting others to assimilate and comply with a hostile capitalistic system rather than encouraging others to live their best blind and or disabled lives even if they do not work.

This is also why I prefer to hang around other disabled people and other disability groups outside of my blindness. They do not follow these same rigid desires.

I haven’t even touched on the internal discrimination I have seen from blind people to other blind people. I have repeatedly witnessed workplace discrimination that was a lot worse than none disabled bosses.

And that isn’t even the half of everything else.

I’m considering putting my foot down with my friends that just can’t seem to quit using Facebook messenger, even when I give them numerous other ways to get a hold of me. Sure, it’s a lot more effort to ask me what I’m up to rather than reading it online but I have my own website, I have my Fedi account.

The messenger app is slowly becoming unusable, the facebook app has so many problems I find it a chore to keep up with friends even when I am looking at their profile exclusively, and a whole canyon of other things.

I’m considering just leaving my friends with a final message and then deleting my account and if they can’t SMS me or send me an email, then they like Facebook more than me.

As I continue to use my Git workflow for beta readers, I am realizing Git just isn't for fiction prose and everything I am doing is tricks and hacks to work with it.

I ended up hiring someone to build me a python script that is interactive.

The common frustration I ran into was,

let's say Jason edited a paragraph in Chapter 1.

Jane edited the same paragraph but a different section.

I wanted Git to smartly present these as changes and have me reject, accept, and or set them aside for later.

It couldn't do that with Git. I'd eventually have to open files and compare myself, which defeats the reasoning. I was contorting Git to the point it stopped making sense to hack and contort.

I gave up and just use Git as glorified Cloud storage and for tracking my own changes to my own MD files.

My trial and errors to turn Git into more of a track changes system that was screen reader friendly wasn't cutting it, so I just decided to pay someone money to make me a non-vibed Python script that includes multiple things such as Critic Markup support, Pandoc's Track Changes support when I convert DOCX to MD using --track-changes=all,

and other goodies that compare comments, compares insertions, deletions, and far more inside of text files and MD files.

I *could* use Google Docs and Track changes, but I like working with local text files, and I have more than five beta readers.

Did some light investigation into how much AI is used in publishing and publishers beyond that video I shared the other day, and in short, publishers love LLMs and it is so ingrained into the modern publishing process that if an author says they do not want LLMs to touch their book, they do not have any agency, they do not have the right to not consent, it’s impossible to avoid. I just now realized why there are table of contents at the beginning of some blog posts. Sighted folk don’t have a way to jump to the first heading level 2 or 3 on the page, nor do they have the capability of bringing up a list of headings on the page and then jumping to a chosen heading the way we do. Gods, how do you all use such a limited form of navigation? I would think scrolling would get tiresome after a while.

If I sit here and think of all the ways that screen reader users can navigate easier around a web page than a sighted person, because the screen reader user can access more symantic things, it makes me actually want browsers that borrow how screen readers are able to extract and use symantic information. Like I think it would be cool to give you all the capability of jumping to a particular heading on the page, or the capability of extracting a list of links in the browser, things we have. If you're a user of the open source or alternative thing, encourage the developer to do better than the proprietary developers on all disability developments, even when the developer tries to make the excuse that they are not a large corporation and can't afford the accessibility developments.

If you can't figure out why disable people continue to use proprietary thing when open source or alternative thing exist, shut the fuck up and do a lot more reading instead of replying.

I of course have refused and now others are wondering, yet again, how to get a hold of me if I’m not on Facebook messenger. I posted a status to friends only giving out my VOIP phone number for SMS and calls but absolutely no one over there wants to keep my phone number, they just want to use Facebook messenger.

This has made me think no one actually wants to leave the walled gardens except for those of us that have already left.

I tried getting everyone into signal, or better yet, Delta Chat but I honestly quit trying and now just use SMS. I couldn’t care less if SMS isn’t the most private or secure, it was like having a root canal just trying to get others to SMS me alone, and I had even less success with trying to get others to use apps like Signal and Delta Chat.

I’m using #JMP as a Voip number via the fabulous #XMPP
I don’t understand why everyone likes those garbage walled gardons so much because ever since finding RSS again, and chronological timelines, I don’t get the appeal.

I don’t know how else to say that if you are against using any LLM, then you should stop using AI checkers of any sort. Not only are they just another tool to slurp up text, but every bit of writing with common words and phrases will be flagged as generated when it’s not because every LLM has common words and phrases in its training data. Lastly, every one of these checkers is designed to eventually get you to pay the tech company money so they can pretend to make your writing more human. They do not work the way you assume.

I know this is radical but we may just have to trust artists! I know, what a shock.

Besides, these AI losers can't shut the fuck up about using their generator so it really isn't hard to find people that use these things if you really wanna point the finger at someone.

Fuck my life. My country's social security system is the pits. I got survivors benefits because my abusive mother died. I didn't know social security counts that as extra income. I was getting the maximum amount on SSI. I was approved for survivors benefits but then they lowered my SSI payments because I'd have extra income. The RSS URL itself is pretty ugly but browser RSS feed extensions should be able to find the feed. Even then, there was tension, but I have never seen the roots of technology such a divide before, justifiably so, especially when you have CEOs that can't wait to toss away their workers, workers that need to eat. Follow BlueSky folk via RSS too so you don’t have to deal with their shit interface.

Both places hate RSS and eventually want to ruin or otherwise destroy their RSS support but in Substacks case, since Substack is basically a blog provider, every publication on there is a blog with an RSS feed.

I use the hosted version of Miniflux synced to all my apps.

For emails, Instead of clicking, unsubscribe, from emails at the bottom or whatever, block the sender. Half the time, companies don't honor your request and those unsubscribe links have tracking in them / on them. also, what some will do is unsubscribe you from that thing but secretly sign you up for 30 other things instead, so block the sender instead. If it's a service you use, see if account related emails come from a different email, and then block the marketing email address that's emailing you garbage. I wouldn't mark it as spam. I think all spam filters don't work well, nor do I think they work at all anyway, so better to block the email address fully. #Email #Tips #FediTips #EmailTips #Tip
