I keep seeing the "Nostr is dead" memeing and honestly, it feels like a portion of the Nostr userbase actually believes that it's dead or dying.

I don't know about them but I remember when the web was still pretty new. I was born just a little too late to remember its initial release but I remember when WWW 1.0 was still a novel concept. I was there during the days when social media was still based of forums, user boards and chat services. I remember when Facebook was something completely new.

Nostr feels like those days to me. It recaptures the magic of the net back when I was still a kid, except this time, the tech is built on rock-solid existing tech and the builders are some of the most creative and driven individuals I've encountered.

As some put it, we're still early. Nostr isn't even a decade old yet. Get involved: if you can't build tech on top of Nostr, tell people about it. Post content with some variety.

Make this space something that cannot be ignored.

While we are here, still resisting their DESIRE for civil war (because, yes, they want us to go that far so they have an excuse for their bloodlust), they have to play at least partly by the rules of civilized politics. As long as we force them to stay in that arena, we have the chance to outplay them.

The "you're not voting your way out of this" thing is, simply put, a painfully obvious psyop. Don't fall for it. Get involved, press your politicians, vote in every election you possibly can and encourage others to do the same. The alternative is endless war and Bitcoin ain't gonna stop that.

I can understand that but I don't think most people use those labels to limit or insult the artist, it's just an easier way to classify the overall sound of the music. Going back to MONO, as I mentioned, they have elements of neoclassical, noise rock and shoegaze on top of the post-rock but it's easiest to classify them as post-rock because that's the core of their sound.

I really WANT to like OpenMeteo in my weather apps (Breezy on Android, Mousam on PC) because I'm all for open-sourced infrastructure, but I've found that it is almost never accurate... at least not in my area. I have much better luck with Accuweather and NWS.

I might need to look into a way to contribute somehow. I contribute to OpenStreetMap when I can. I might look into building a Raspberry Pi-based weather station and find a way to pipe that data to OpenMeteo somehow. 🤔

I have yet to find any convincing evidence to support the plausibility of something like AGI. While I'm certainly not trusting ANY big tech AI corp to be ethical about their AI development, and I'm not writing off the possibility of AI going rogue in limited cases, knowing how this tech actually works makes it really easy to be skeptical of AGI and concepts similar to it.

So, my belief is that the second theory is definitely the most likely. GenAI is literally just complicated and wide-reaching program logic with absurd amounts of training data to apply that logic to. Calling it artificial "intelligence" is a bit of a misnomer when you get down to it.

I decided to check out some other Nostr web clients. Up until now, I had used Primal, NoStrudel and Coracle. Primal was generally my go-to due to its easy-to-read UI and its "enhanced privacy" feature since I don't always use a VPN. However, since I decided to upgrade to Proton Unlimited, I'll be using my VPN a lot more, so I figured it doesn't hurt to check out some others.

So far, my favorite, by far, would be Ditto. The UI and feature set is incredible. It feels, in a lot of ways, like Amethyst in web form, which is massive because I absolutely love Amethyst on my phone.

Definitely looking forward to exploring Ditto some more and maybe check out a few other web clients!

It's not just Boomers, it's a lot of Gen X'ers too. If anything, I'd argue Gen X is even worse in some regards, being the generation that genuinely thinks it's flawless, that its childhood was perfect, and that every other generation is bad except itself.

Chuck's only crime was covering a Linux distro leftists dislike. That's it.

Instead of ignoring it, they bullied him, dug into his past, harassed him (and seemingly threatened him).

He does the Christian thing and addresses the issues between him and these folks.

What do they do in response? Leak the private conversation and bully him further. Why? Because he didn't "apologize" (again, he did no wrong) and because he didn't recant his Christian views on marriage and things like gay marriage.

Heck, he even specified that his views on these issues have morphed a bit, and that his focus now is only on loving other people as Christ loves them.

But again, because he didn't apologize and recant his views entirely, these psychos are still attacking him.

These people are insufferable, despicable, evil individuals. Chuck does nothing but help other people and present good vibes, but because he covered a Linux distribution by a guy who has some right-wing views, and because Chuck himself is a Christian, they go after him.

I used to be against the whole "anti-woke Linux" concept because Linux is open source and meant for everyone, but actions like this are precisely why we need distros like Omarchy in the first place.

The infosec and open source communities have been completely overrun with militant leftists, femboys, furries, etc. who refuse to accept anyone with even slightly less left-leaning opinions and more than that, they will bully you, dox you, and even threaten you.

Heaven forbid you be Christian and have even slightly conservative views in either space! Because they'll make sure you know how unwelcome you are. We can't coexist with people like this. I refuse to, especially after what they've been doing to Chuck.

Again, this is why we desperately need projects like Omarchy which fly straight in the face of these freaks. If you're a Christian or conservative in the FOSS/infosec spaces, you need to start becoming more vocal against them and create spaces for "us" instead.

Something I really appreciate about Nostr vs. other social media experiences is that I actually feel like I get some level of engagement here.

I don't get much on platforms like X because I refuse to be inauthentic and phony, playing the algorithmic game, entering subscription slavery and KYCing to receive payouts.

On Nostr, I don't have to do any of that. I can simply post what's on my mind, have a fun time, and still get a decent amount of organic engagement and occasional payout because of zaps.

The really crappy part is that this means bugs will go unspotted, more vulnerabilities will be sold on the dark web, and many who got involved in helping make a more secure internet will now simply no longer contribute.

I've been struggling to fix my schedule for years now, and it's starting to really take its toll on my mind, on my health, on my discipline. I've become more of a lazy procrastinator as of late and I don't like it. I'm not seeking to become a morning person. I've never been one, even when my schedule wasn't in bad shape, but I am seeking to at least have more regularity and less of a struggle with getting to bed on time and waking up with the alarms without immediately snoozing them.

As for the Venice thing, you're not wrong, they don't exactly have a way to verify whether not they're telling the truth and that is concerning.

But again, it gets back to the whole idea of not using AI for anything sensitive. I'm all for increasing productivity with AI in different ways but at the end of the day the best thing to do when you need to ask sensitive questions is use a privacy-respecting search engine on Tor Browser or a private browser with a VPN you trust.

No perfect solution, unfortunately, but it is what it is.

Genuine, non-hater discussion topic incoming.

Bitcoiners like to say that Bitcoin is fully uncensorable, that governments can't fully take it down. The problem I see is that even though the *technology* can't be taken down, the means by which people can enter into using said technology can easily be cut off, and not just via KYC. While there's still the peer-to-peer aspect, that also could easily be targeted through surveillance, and unless people start to become fully anonymous (not realistic for most), that's not something you can stop.

On top of that fact, there's a lot of KYCed Bitcoin out there, and the problem with that is that if it's KYCed, it makes it pretty trivial for governments to surveil wallet addresses and transactions.

In this way, wouldn't it be wiser to use a privacy coin if you're okay with KYC? Also, if the legal system ever decides to make it virtually impossible to obtain Bitcoin and you're going to go the route of "privately" obtaining it, then you're not going to get very far if they can surveil all of that information.

To reiterate, I'm not a hater, not by a long shot. Aside from my personal issues with KYC keeping me from buying, I believe in the technology, and I think it's got some serious potential to be the basis for economic change. I'm also not specifically a Monero guy, even though I think that it has some MAJOR benefits. But the problem with Bitcoin's lack of privacy, as well as the fact that KYC is virtually unavoidable, make it hard for me to believe in the maxi opinion that Bitcoin is completely unstoppable. Again, I do agree that the technology itself can't be shut down, but if you can't legally obtain it and you can't truly obtain it privately, then I don't see how it's unstoppable.

Just some thoughts I had. I'm genuinely curious what some of you guys think about this subject.

I like the concepts, but the way that the messages load is irritating if you're in more than two or three groups. I also don't know how much I trust the way they anonymize users beyond the pseudonym feature. Comparing to Session's onion routing, it just feels a little bit less anonymous and secure. That said, I haven't looked real hard into it and I'm not an expert anyways.

I've not been able to get into Bitcoin because of the KYC issue. It's not even so much of a principle thing for me (though that's certainly part of it), I just don't feel comfortable offering sensitive documents to CEXes, which are undoubtedly one of the largest targets for black hats. Considering the fact that I have no way to verify they're doing due diligence on their security, and considering the fact that the docs they require aren't easy to replace if there's a data breach, I certainly won't give it to them. Most I might consider is a passport.

That said, KYC itself is complete anathema to the core principles of what Bitcoin is supposed to be. I really don't know how anyone is okay with it, but I also don't know any other way to get around it unless you know people in your personal life who can transact with Bitcoin (and I don't, since I live in a rural small town that has a majority of elderly folks). DEXes might be an option but every time I've tried to use one, it just didn't work out, and there are a few Bitcoin ATMs within an hour's drive... but the problem is that they cost a 20% fee, which is absolutely ABSURD.
