ok, this october I am going to play dead space (the original plus 2, probably skip on 3), and maybe some other horror games I wanted to play but never got to

if anyone also got some recommendations... (already maybe considering animal well, hail to the rainbow and desktop explorer)

(imo) intellij ides are heavy on ram, sluggish, complicated where to find anything you need to go trough a dozen dropdowns and submenus, the single plugin for having vim keybinds on it is quite janky as a bunch of common keybinds overlap with the ui specific ones (toggle panes, change focus, etc) and the documentation on which editor actions you can rebind is not very good, their plugin ecosystem is a lot less varied than on vscode or nvim. and find annoying having to learn and configure an editor for just a singular language when I already have another editor for everything else

have you seen the new program? it's on apt. it's literally on rpm. it's on exe with wine. it's literally on appimage. you can probably find it on aur. dude it's on tar.xz. it's a snap original. it's on flatpak. you can get it on dockerhub. you can go to lxc and download it. log onto ghcr right now. go to pip. dive into cargo. you can chroot it. it's on nix. flathub has it for you. homebrew has it for you.

2025-05-25T04:05:48Z

is there a way to tell cmake to ignore minimum version compatibility? at this point every time I try to compile something, there's a 40% chance cmake will give a "setting minium version to less than 3.something is not supported any more" and refuse to do the thing, then I have to go trough the project cmakelist files (including for evry dependency) and edit them one by one until cmake is happy

is a pretty nice game

if you ignore the usual 'unreal 5 game' problems, and that the story is neat but kinda bland (is it a spoiler to say that your character has honestly 0 agency), that once you understand how anomalies work they kinda become too easy, and that the randomization sometimes makes planning trips quite annoying

if you ignore all of those, is a pretty vibes and both relaxing and exciting road trip scavenging game with incredible environments and vibes (again)

2024-10-21T18:29:39Z

my main gripe with fediverse people is acting like protocol/server limitations are good because it lowers the need for proper moderation mechanisms

"the search functionality being shit is good! it makes it hard for people to find others to harass"
"replies to a post being fractured is good! it makes it hard for people to dogpile"
"there being no way to auto fetch posts that were published in the past is good! it makes it hard for people to stalk others"
etc

what if instead having these bunch of usability problems as some ad-hoc moderation policy... there were actual moderation options per server/user for these kind of stuff
