Accidental Tech Podcast (npub1f30…d2kp) Bought a high-end M5 MBP back in March even though it was maybe a year too early for an upgrade for me ... I had been half-thinking I'd wait for the M6 generation before buying a new one, but I also wanted to mess around with a lot of local LLM stuff. Just checked the same config and it’s $2,025 more expensive now.

2026-04-05T01:02:19Z

I just watched Gremlins 2 for the first time since 1990. The entire film is built around a dim, vain, tasteless New York developer named Daniel Clamp, his sprawling Clamp Building and his gimcrack Clamp Empire, which includes TV stations, his inane self-aggrandizing books, and a line of jams and jellies. At the end he falls for a character named Marla. This has been a remark about how the meaning of a work of art is not something fixed or under the control of its creators.

2025-12-30T16:30:33Z

It’s between December 26th and January 4th. A liminal time. Things are unhurried, indeterminate, tranquil. Just the moment when, in the stillness, you will decide to start messing around with your home network “setup” for no good reason. It is working fine. What are you doing? You pull on a cable; push a button; adjust a setting. Now everything is broken; the kids are mad at you; no-one asked for this. You settle in for a satisfying afternoon undoing the consequences of your own stupid actions.

2025-12-24T14:05:05Z

Somewhat relatedly, this sort of approach is a good way to assess what really matters to any organization from the point of view of the people who run it. For example, starting from the front page of any university website, count how many clicks it takes you to get to a page showing the faculty members who teach in any specific department (Physics, English, Civil Engineering, Sociology, Chemistry, it doesn't matter, just pick one).

An instructive contrast here. When it comes to EU policies it thinks are bad for business, Apple has no trouble making full-throated, detailed, public statements like this, because it—correctly!—judges it’s dealing with a government that can be pressured in a conventional way. When it comes to the US, however, it's all kiss-ass humiliation dinners and gold trophies. A good illustration of how debased governance has become in the US. https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2025/09/the-digital-markets-acts-impacts-on-eu-users/
