I'm lucky, in my yard & neighborhood, they are frequently overhead, esp. fall & winter when they breed in southeast Louisiana

there are definitely easier spots for where i would want to photograph them though...usually the state park on the other side of town...

as i study photography, i realized i had learned to take "bird in hover" shots instead of "bird in flight" shots because i have spent so much time learning on hummingbirds (who come reliably to feeders) but slowly, slowly i will learn...

i would need to see a better photo of the snake not just the helmet before i got too worried, these folks who can't tell a copperhead from a cottonmouth also can't tell a cottonmouth from a perfectly harmless Nerodia (water snake), & Nerodia gets mistaken for cottonmouth every single day + what we do see of it... i think Nerodia could well be what it was & this player was never in any danger

cottonmouths tend to be very gray and very very very wide compared to the average

also there is a game of telegraph going on here, they worked a little too hard to keep & release the snake alive, i just don't see the workers on the scene doing that for a cottonmouth
