There's debate over whether France started before Germany, _then_ they were thirsting for revenge after the humiliation and territorial losses from 1870, and worried declining birth rates put them on a timetable.

If you did not feel a thrill when you saw the simultaneous landings of the two side boosters for the Falcon Heavy test flight, your soul is dead, black, and/or sold to the prince of this world.

Meanwhile, the headline is not inaccurate compared to the text:

"Elon Musk says money will be 'irrelevant' if his vision of a multiplanetary future comes true in generations"

Anyone who's paid real attention to Musk knows he's big on aspirational goals. And on achieving them, albeit not always in the desired time. ___He inspires people___ which is great for most of us, and unforgivable for others (you thought _Atlas Shrugged_ was too fantastic?).

There's massive, massive wealth out there, energy, all the elements, etc. etc. He's including "AI" and robots in this vision, BTW.

This is very much like the misquoted _aspiration_ of the guy who wanted to eventually see from nuclear power plants "energy too cheap to meter." Metering is a cost, after all.

But it ignores too much of human nature like the envy or worse driving Chad McCullough (npub1ded…kves), the future could for example take a bad turn like in First Gundam for the desire to control and/or kill other humans is wired into us, see the Protestant Work Ethic concept, etc. etc.

      In reply to nevent1q…uvp2
_________________________

It's thou shalt not _murder._

The King James of the famous, often great prose but iffy in _accuracy_ bible he sponsored was the son of Mary, Queen of Scots, and was under great threat in England, like the Gunpowder Plot (Guy Fawkes and company, a Catholic plot), the struggle between Protestants and Catholics was vicious in his day. From Wikipedia is this chilling note:

"He was strongly committed to a peace policy and tried to avoid involvement in religious wars, especially the Thirty Years' War that devastated much of Central Europe."

As in, many Germans think it was worse than the results of losing WWII, and I can totally see that. And his son King Charles I was executed, which then put Cromwell in power.

*Vengeance* is a dangerous path, and in a state with a functioning legal system is to be avoided, so you avoid things like blood feuds (see my previous postings on this). Killing lethal enemies before they kill you is another thing altogether, which I won't get into here.

Lawfare is not exactly new in the US:

"Nixon Was Framed – It Was a Coup"

From the NYT! An admission against interest written by a long time scholar of Watergate, who was also targeted as a normal reporter by Obama, with more details of the general framework that has been known since at least the 1991 publication of _Silent Coup._

"But what about all the president’s men? Did they get a raw deal? According to a raft of scholarly work, the answer, unequivocally, is yes. By fabricating witness testimony, suppressing exculpatory evidence and colluding with the presiding judge, the Watergate prosecutors railroaded the former attorney general John Mitchell, the former White House chief of staff H.R. Haldeman and the former domestic policy chief John Ehrlichman…

All household names back in the day....

"On Feb. 6, 1974, a task force staff lawyer, Peter Rient, sent a colleague a three-page memo titled 'Material Discrepancies Between the Senate Select Committee Testimony of John Dean and
the Tapes of Dean’s Meetings With the President.' Mr. Nixon was then six months away from resigning… [having the truth here may have saved Nixon his Presidency]"

TL;DR from the book, accurately per Wikipedia (I read it a long time ago, after having followed the whole thing in real time):

"Colodny and Gettlin contend that former White House counsel John Dean orchestrated the 1972 Watergate burglary. Dean’s motive was argued to have been to protect his future wife Maureen Biner by removing information linking her to a call-girl ring that worked for the DNC."

And it came down to his vs. Nixon's word. Of course they'd choose Dean to get Nixon, who'd been ___hated___ by the Left since his 1948 instrumental role as "the smartest" member of the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) in bringing down Soviet agent Alger Hiss.

Nixon was a lawyer by trade, how he finished his WWII era service since a _lot_ of contracts had to be canceled or modified after Japan surrendered.

https://joehoft.com/nixon-was-framed-it-was-coup/

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Rosen

https://www.amazon.com/dp/0312051565/

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silent_Coup

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alger_Hiss

That's the start of the Great Replacement in the US.)

I would have said that back then, starting pretty much any time prior to the War Between the States when lots started to come over. But I get the impression they eventually did assimilate sometime post-JFK. But could easily be wrong, having left Massachusetts after Route 128 died.

Note, the first major US population group from outside the Hajnal Line. The WASPs could not believe how pathological they were, and they did manage to keep Boston small by not letting it annex the nearby cities and towns a lot of them escaped to. But deportation wasn't in the cards by then.

See the Curly Effect for one well documented example of how bad they could be, but also much more recently the Corrupt Midget William Bulger and his gangster brother, "Whitey." The latter gets us right into Robert Mueller _lethal_ corruption before he transformed the FBI after W put him in charge of it.

And I could well be wrong, see for example the last link, which starts with:

"When you consider that three of the last five Speakers of the Massachusetts House of Representatives resigned from office and were found guilty of criminal charges or copped a plea, you might think you've landed in a lost episode of The Sopranos."

Except two of the three were Irish, the last until 2004. A friend from New York state noted how both corrupt and _incompetent_ at that the Massachusetts political machine was, comparing it on the latter to NY.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_European_marriage_pattern

https://search.brave.com/search?q=curley+effect

https://wbsm.com/corruption-a-way-of-life-in-massachusetts-according-to-report/

How much credibility does Team Trump 2.0 have left? Here we see a totally H-1B focused program when there are so many others like the ones that deny whites kids summer jobs, and absolutely nothing about the OPT program.

Which at last count was surging at 54% per year, with 418,000 that year. ___It's not a law but was created by regulations,___ and workers and employers don't pay FICA taxes in the first five years (Trump is in theory indirectly limiting that to four years).

_We're literally giving out tax breaks for our replacements!_ Meanwhile there's no worst administration figure to make this claim, even before you consider JD Vance has no real power except as the top dog in the Senate for tie votes and a few other things.

JD Vance
@JDVance

Our message to corporate America is simple: We’re not going to let you lay off American workers so you can replace them with cheap foreign labor.

https://x.com/JDVance/status/2103119477240168589

She had a concern with Gas Iris entering the lane to starboard.

First Margaux could have maneuvered to port and have taken the fishing vessel between her and Gas Iris.

The Chinese fishing boat was also entering the lane and this placed First Margaux as the overtaking vessel. A slight turn to port could have avoided this situation but there was a turn to starboard coming up to enter Singapore.

https://x.com/mercoglianos/status/2101697187373568473

Which rather puts a damper on activity. It was kept alive by government action for a long time, it's certainly still a naval base to the extent it was for subs I would think, and it might return in a new location in the city.

But mostly it's just stranded, since it's so very, _very_ cheap to ship stuff by ... ship, and thus the extra distance to get to the Med ports in Israel will almost certainly cost less than unloading in small volumes then putting containers on trucks.

I right now can't think of an American equivalent.

Pink salt, I don't like the mix of stuff in it, again especially the iron, plus you're getting it from pajeets. Sea salt should be absolutely fine as long as it's done by people who don't contaminate it.

Base system fires 50,000 a second, the laser system hits about 70-80% of them.

In the vacuum this all has to all be in, where does that tin go? Hydrogen atoms wafting through do a lot of it, but the first mirror in the system has to be replaced every year. Which the PRC isn't getting.

Before this, and still, ASML started making the world's best DUV steppers, I read they integrate better with the rest of your factory than Canon or Nikon's, which you'd expect from the Japanese. One of which didn't even master immersion lithography, putting water between the mask and the silicon wafer ("193i").

We could still make plenty of really good chips without EUV lithography, though. It's just cheaper and for mobile with its battery limits best to use it, if your name is TSMC. They're also starting to be used for DRAM.

Forget about the surface US Navy, we don't have the logistics to fight the PRC over Taiwan, per Konrad we don't even have the fuel to evacuate all our people in East Asia (the Hawaii depot was closed without replacement, of course). Dealing with our attack subs wouldn't be fun, though.

Nuclear reactors have a lag, in that a _lot_ of their power is generated from chains of decay reactions that have various delays after the U-235 atoms are first split.

Per Brave AI, an _Arleigh Burke class_ destroyer can go from cruising speed to flank in 74 to 90 seconds, the newer flights are heavier and require a little more time.

In terms of avoiding _ballistic_ missile in the gulf region, being alert and at a respectable speed probably counts for more, unless you get early warning from some platform that sees the TELs' moving and setting up to launch. Also makes a difference that we have satellite systems that immediately report launches and can quickly predict the course of ballistic missiles, random ship maneuvers just might move you into the path of one.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerk_(physics) is increasing acceleration. third derivative after speed and acceleration.

Not a good sign for the IRGC: just how fucking stupid do you have to be to shoot _ballistic,_ that is unguided misses at alert, moving targets.

Which have Official speeds in excess of 30 knots, and can spin up to their max pretty quickly (nuclear has a lag, turbines already running I think are near instant). And are probably normally not following straight lines.

All they have to do is not be where the missiles will land, ground targets or ships in Condition White are another matter.

So in response, the IRGC now has three ex-tankers, the video is quite impressive.

"CENTCOM Destroys 3 IRGC Oil Tankers After Iran Targets 2 U.S. Navy Warships"

https://x.com/CENTCOM/status/2096231596449767452

They've outlawed checking ID in elections, I can go on and on, but the taking up to a month to "count" ballots is really all you need to know, it's such a huge red flag.

(When I bought my old house, I made a point to get ___all___ the "middle" plumbing redone, from suitable gas and water supply lines to existing terminal sewer line.)

First simplification I can think of for your decision is they are two general options, inwards (better house), outwards (make more soap or plastic or metal artifacts).

First improves quality of living at the cost of money, second has the possibility of making more money, giving you more options if things get dicey that way. Ah, would your current employer get upset if you started doing your own CNC work for hire?

The scale is a bit off for a high power centerfire one, it looks to me like a barrel cocking air rifle. That especially based on my interpretation of the forward end of the stock, you cock the spring by pulling the barrel down thus what looks more like a mechanism than the smooth wood you'd expect there.

For former I'm guessing they pretty much only have to pay electricity to host the game ... well, Sony's so big they probably have at least a fraction of a sales/marketing type to manage that general relationship ... Valve will probably make ~~money~~ pocket change on this. Probably the same net after you count capitalization of software development (now required by the US government! Don't worry, it's primarily hurting our enemies), whatever for their server fleet (do they own that, or rent??), etc.

That said, Valve provides a marketplace with a _great_ deal of discovery capabilities, and refunds if you immediately don't like a game, so it's really up to consumers to decide if something is shovel ware or better. As the latter are demonstrating with it's low, low concurrent user numbers, which Valve also helpfully supplies so we know _Concord_ is a contender for ___the biggest media flop in all of history.___
