There was a guy a couple of years ago, here on mastodon, who was prepping and cooking acorns while making flour out of them, and he was posting the results all based on species.
Some of them required very little prep to get rid of the bitter taste. Anybody remember who that was or have any copies of those?

Back in the beginning with telegraph, the charge was per character. So people came up with all sorts of shorthand and abbreviation. Indeed, sometimes they came up with it between themselves, and there were quite a few fortunes lost because of misunderstandings about markets because somebody couldn’t decipher what they were sent properly.

I tried listening to the AM radio on the drive up today. On the expressway I had to switch to FM. Roughly 50% of the 18 wheelers would cause massive static on whatever a.m. station. I was listening to while they were adjacent to me.

So I finished listening to this one today, and it talks about dragonflies and damselflies in rainwater runoff catch basins. You know those pits that you see where runoff is caught from parking lots. If those have a nice variety of aquatic plants growing in them, then they are important dragonfly habitat, even if the water quality is low. There might be seed bomb potential there.

If you are growing bell peppers, here’s something to remember. If you pick them while they are still dark green, then you will get pepper after pepper after pepper. If you let them turn yellow or red or whatever their ripe color is then the plant will stop producing.
That’s why it’s pretty common to see yellow and red bell peppers priced just a little bit more than the dark green ones

No pictures of the nest because that shop is not safe. And also, I do not want to risk disturbing it. Vultures perform a very valuable service and I don’t know how spooked they get on their nest.

when I was in Maine I contributed many bumblebee records to inaturalist. I know that they pull records from iNaturalist for the bumblebee Atlas.

Exchange a few emails with one of the people who was over the project. I thought that I had made a sighting of the yellow bumblebee, but it was not. It was a northern amber bumblebee. Now my favorite species.
I’m going to miss not being able to spot them down here in Georgia.

Unfortunately, it didn’t work out because the batteries died far too quickly. And I’m talking permanent death not just ran out of juice though they were light on that as well.

back four or five years ago when we lived in Georgia in a suburb, we had a planter around the base of our mailbox. We planted a number of pepper plants there.
The neighbor boys asked “are those peppers?” Since they were a touch hot for our taste we told them to take all they wanted. Being tweens they took them all.
I never did hear what they thought of them. But at least they learned that peppers can be homegrown.

I made this map back as a teenager. I believe it was. Anyway, I can’t remember the name. But I do know that several of my friends used the friggin hell out of this map.

Before I had him, he lived in an aquarium store. He was infamous for luring small children close to his cage by making cute noises.

At a previous house, I restored a yard that had been scraped down to hard Georgia red clay. On 1/3 of an acre I tossed out well over 2000 pounds of coffee grounds. I got coffee grounds from several different Starbucks and several different independent gas stations. For like two years.
By the time we left, the soil was dark and fertile. Earthworms had gone from almost nonexistent to extremely common.

if you live where there are earthworms, just toss the coffee grounds out on the ground. The earthworms will pull them into the soil. And they will decay in place.
They do not acidify the soil. The acid stays in the cup at least with hot brew it does I don’t know about cold brew.

Those are innate to Mastodon.... I've seen a call for that before, I think. You can turn off boosts for a specific user, and only see their original posts, if that's a help.
You can use the advanced web interface to get a multiple column layout in the web. (I use this. I don't use an app anymore).
