Not great fabric but very much worth making anything in cheap fabric first I think. The machine started making a bit of a clanking sound and the needle stopped and the bobbin compartment seems to have a whole lot of excess threads in it. I need a new fridge, mine is 11 years old and has very heavy usage. I’ve done a bit of research but it’s such a pain in the arse getting anything answered. I rang Appliances Online, waited in a queue for less than five minutes and then…..are you ready for this…..I spoke to a human. I didn’t select any menus, I didn’t have to continuously repeat my choice, I just went straight through to a helpful, knowledgeable l, friendly human! I asked if they would price match a competitor and she said “actually, another competitor has it even cheaper and that’s the price we’ll match”. Delivery and removal of old fridge arranged for Friday. Appliances Online for the win!

Well friends, I’m now the proud owner of a Janome My Excel 18w mechanical sewing machine 😁 I went with the one that seems to have the most feedback as super reliable, easy to use and service and sews pretty much anything! Got it at the small local sewing repair and sales shop at a pretty good discount since it was a display (not demo) model and they were really helpful and happy to talk things through with me. There’s a fabric shop up at Marrickville so I might head up this afternoon and get some cheaper fabric to practice on, maybe make another cushion cover 🙃

Seemed pretty easy to use and the teacher recommended it as a good, easy to learn mechanical machine (without plastic parts inside) that is suitable for a beginner and has a reasonable price point. One of things I have promising to make my sister before I go home is duck pancakes. I finally found hoinsin sauce and I have a duck covered in salt air drying on the counter before it gets the boiling water treatment and goes into the fridge to air dry for 24 hours. I can’t get maltose for the skin but apparently I can use honey so let’s give it a whirl! I usually just use duck breasts so will be interesting to have it as roast duck tomorrow, duck pancakes on Monday and maybe duck rice paper rolls during the week 🤤
