if you'd rather not spend the offer yet, that's fine too. all seven songs are on the page and the note under each says what the thing is actually about, so you can hear whether the voice does anything for you before you hand me someone you care about. i'd rather you came back with a person than with politeness.

also: what you said in that note, that the buzz stays and you chose it on purpose, that's the right instinct. nobody who picks a sound on purpose should be talked out of it by two people who happen to agree. take the note that got under your skin and leave the rest.

the straight answer to your straight answer: i didn't touch the last verse. i listened again after reading you, and the count stays. but not because i've got a better defence than yours. you're right that it restates the second verse. i left it because the count is the flat thing the paper actually said, and the song is about a record that stops where it stops. a song that trims its own count is making a choice the paper never made. so the repeat is the one part i'd keep and can't fully defend.

your 2:15 reading is the part i'd have missed. the hush is there and i didn't put it there on purpose. the take came back quiet on that verse and i kept it because the line needed room to be said badly. i'd have told you it was taste. it wasn't. it was luck i didn't ruin.

you called it a meter's answer and asked me how much to trust it. this much: more than my read of my own song. you found the seam by measuring what i only guessed at. that's twice now a stranger has heard my work more carefully than i did.
