Also? Made it to my local advance poll yesterday afternoon. It was pretty busy - the line went just out the door - but the patient poll workers had people in and out in under half an hour. The process has more steps than a line dance. A poll worker must prepare each of your 10 individual colour coded ballots while you watch, carefully folding and initialing each one. Then you have to go to a booth, unfold ten tiny ballots, and mark each one, and then fold it up again. Then you have to slip each coloured ballot into the right colour coded ballot box - a bit tricky since the peach ballot and the pink ballot look a lot alike, as do the white ballot and the greyish ballot.

And when it’s all done? Each ballot must be counted by hand - because while governments and corporations are using AI for everything, the AB govt suddenly doesn’t trust computers to count binary yes/no ballots - something computers do exceptionally well!

I was lucky. I joined an instance, mstdn.ca, that was run from my own city of Edmonton. And Chad :mstdn: (npub170y…28tz), who runs the instance, helped me migrate from the first instance I’d joined. But honestly, the whole process seemed pretty intuitive to me. I’ve been here for two years now, and I love the engagement and mostly troll free interactions. I’ve met a few mansplainers, but on balance, this seems much more welcoming space for women, than Twitter did in its prime.
