Every time I hear the tired joke about #linux on the desktop it makes me sad because I think we passed the best desktop linux experience between about 2009-2014. That joke is about market share, which is the absolute worst metric for success unless you're a company trying to grow. Chasing that fantasy has led to many features and a huge increase in visual fidelity and compatibility. We gave up a lot of dependability, predictability, and debug-ability though. To me those were the killer features.

      In reply to nevent1q…sydj
_________________________

This paragraph is likely misleading a lot of readers, particularly the opening sentence. The potential charges relate to registration of source code. The paragraph suggests that the government tries to prevent the sale of encryption technology. IANAL but the declaration mentioned seems designed to _enable_ the sale of encryption technology without running afoul of national defense. e.g. I suspect Signal (npub1rkw…5q62) would be effectively shielded by virtue of their open source nature.
